A HANDBOOK FOR THE BROKEN A valuable guide for anyone dealing with PTSD, trauma and tragedy, family members of trauma victims, clergy who seek a better understanding of psychology, and for counselors who seek a better understanding of the role of faith in healing from trauma. THE CHRIST CURE is comprehensive handbook of healing for victims of trauma and their families, guiding the reader through a unique path of true restoration, inspired by the life and works of the Apostle Paul (a survivor of multiple traumas), by modern day mentors, the humbling personal experiences of the author, Psychologist, Navy veteran and former Member of Congress Dr. Tim Murphy, and reinforced by solid scientific research. Dr. Murphy’s book is a faith foundation guide for healing the psychological problems in the wake of trauma. Awakened by his own failures, the author grasped for ways out of his deep depression and re-discovered inspiration in the life and works of the Apostle Paul, who himself lived a life filled with major traumatic experiences. It offers new insights into how life threatening abuse, chronic stress and self-inflicted trauma affects us physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually, and most importantly, how we can heal. In the book, Dr. Murphy candidly describes his own fall from grace, his battle with depression and his humble confession that while he was trying to save the world he was losing his own soul; disconnecting from his faith and family. He walks the reader through his return to the Bible and his discovery of a great mentor for healing from trauma—the Apostle Paul. Paul the Apostle suffered several dozen severe traumas including whippings, stoning, shipwrecks, trials, imprisonment, abandonment, and a looming death sentence. Modern psychological research suggests any one of these traumas should have been emotionally crippling for him. Instead, Paul grew stronger and more courageous. Unique to this book is the foundation of biblical pillars for healthy treatment of trauma all supported by research and scripture including fitness, sleep, healthy eating, healthy relaxation, resilience, resistance, recovery, and renewal. Within each stage the reader is challenged to choose between sets of dichotomies, one leading to healing, while the other worsens our problems. Throughout, the reader is empowered through their own suffering to become stronger in their relationships and faith: Building Strength instead of Weakness Courage over Fear Vigilance over Vulnerability Hope over Despair Guilt over Shame Forgiveness over Condemnation Acceptance of Faith, Trust, Grace and Mission Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) effects tens of millions with symptoms of depression, anxiety, sleep disorders, broken relationships, isolation, and suicidal thoughts. Current treatment approaches include counseling and medication, but this often leaves many still struggling in darkness for years. Here, readers are guided on a very different path lit by a beacon of faith. THE CHRIST CURE: 10 Biblical Ways to Heal Your Mind from Trauma, Tragedy, and PTSD provides much-need help and guidance to “the broken” from secular to scriptural; illustrated with inspirational stories of those who are winning their own battles.

After experiencing a continuous period of twenty-two (22) years with no disease or sickness, and no medication, the author woke up one morning in 2016 and started a prayerful conversation with the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. He couldn't understand "why" he doesn't get sick or "why" his paralyzed body is not healed. That's when the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit began to explain to him the difference between a "cure and "healing" for his spirit, soul, and body. To answer his question, the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit helped him understand that the two words "cure" and "heal" have two entirely different meanings. The word "cure" is applied to the eradication of sin from his spirit, soul, and body. The word "eradicate" means to pull up by the roots, i.e., disease and sickness cannot grow in his spirit, soul, and body anymore because the root of disease and sickness, which is sin, is no longer there. Where there is no sin, there can be no disease or sickness, therefore, he has been experiencing the "cure" functioning in his spirit, soul, and body for the past twenty-two (22) years. He has come to realize that sin has been eradicated from his spirit, soul, and body and he will never again experience disease or sickness growing in his spirit, soul, and body. It has helped him tremendously to know and understand that the word "heal" has a totally different meaning. The word "heal" suggests the making whole of wounds, broken bones, sores, etc., i.e., to heal a burn or broken bone. He has come to understand that his paralyzed body needs to be "healed." He's convinced that now that he understands the difference between the two words "cure" and "heal" it's only a matter of time until he "believes with his heart" that his body is healed, and, when that happens the healing "process" will grow "healing" in his body. This first book "Module One: Introduction" is the introduction to the new Bible Study course titled "The Christian Cure: Renew Your Mind! Transform Your Body!"

Change is a daily fact of life, one that people often have a hard time embracing. But when change does come, people do want it to be meaningful to them and to have some enduring value for their lives. In Redemptive Change, R. R. Reno argues that modern culture fails to offer people the hope of meaningful and enduring change. He shows how modern philosophers have argued that people are self-sufficient, that they do not need God to complete their identities, and that whatever changes they experience are momentary and of no ultimate significance. Countering modern philosophy, Reno contends that the only meaningful change occurs in Christ. At the moment of atonement, people experience an enduring change that has momentous consequences for their lives. We matter, he says, only insofar as we are more dependent upon and changed by Christ. R. R. Reno is Associate Professor of Theology, Creighton University, Omaha, Nebraska, and co-author of Heroism and the Christian Life: Reclaiming Excellence.

Do you have anyone in your life who can't seem to stick with a project, meet a deadline, or even clean up after themselves? All of us feel we deserve special treatment sometimes. Some people live with this entitled attitude, such as: Professionals who wander from job to job looking for a boss who will see them as amazing as they consider themselves to be--whether they're productive or not Young adults who refuse to grow up and so go nowhere Spouses or dates who believe, "I'm special, and I deserve more than you're giving me" Leaders who expect special treatment because of their position, not because of their character If you have a difficult relationship with an entitled person, or if you have discovered entitlement in yourself, understand this: It doesn't have to stay this way. There is a cure. It's called the Hard Way and it works. In The Entitlement Cure, Dr. John Townsend explains that the Hard Way is a habit that focuses on doing whatever is needed even if it is difficult, uncomfortable, takes longer, and requires more energy. Dr. Townsend offers daily steps, such as risk-taking, to help you or those you love choose the Hard Way. Ultimately, entitlement fails us. We don't develop the character abilities and relationships necessary to reach success and become the people God intended us to be. By contrast, Hard Way people have better relationships, reach their goals, have a clear job direction, enjoy rich spiritual growth, and are equipped to face and solve challenges. As Dr. Townsend writes, "Stand against entitlement in every form in which it manifests itself. Resolve your own tendencies toward the disease. Be a loving and firm force for helping those in its trap to find life and hope. And you will make the world a better place." Discover why the Hard Way is the best way in this practical guide to true success.

Excerpt from Christ's Cure for Care Thank God, there is a blessed Gospel for busy men and burdened women, but it must be a Gospel that is fitted for their moments of leisure. Whatever it may lack at the hands of him who brings it, there must not be want ing sympathy, interest, homeliness. This has been my thought, my aim, my prayer in writing this book. The homeliest of ills, I have sought to deal with it in homeliest fashion. To make it the more complete I have added such hymns as seemed likely to set forth its teaching more fully; for there is a soothing in the lilt and rhythm of words as well as in their sentiment, for which a jaded soul is often grateful. For the use of Miss Rossetti's poem, I have to acknowledge my indebtedness to Messrs. Macmillan. Of the hymns, I can not find that any permission is required for their use. If I am mistaken I must ask forgiveness, and will hasten to correct the error. The chapter headed Consider the Lilies was for the most part published some time ago in another form.
