In a model where two firms products are diÞerentiated both, horizontally and vertically, introduction of a quality standard affects equilibrium quality levels of both firms. The effects, furthermore, depend upon consumers being or not perfectly informed about qualities. Qualities are strategic substitutes and under perfect information only non-innocuous standards, i.e. above the lowest quality in an unregulated equilibrium, change the equilibrium. However, the average quality in the market may go down due to the standard, and total consumers welfare decrease. Under uncertainty, even apparently innocuous standards, below the lowest unregulated equilibrium quality, may alter the equilibrium quality choices.

Despite impressive progress in the economic performance of many African countries in recent years, youth unemployment remains one of the continent’s main socioeconomic and political problems. This study employs panel data covering 49 African countries for the period 2000–2017 to provide the first attempt to explicitly examine the dynamic relationship between quality foundational skills, measured by basic education quality (teacher-pupil ratio), and youth unemployment, while considering the conditional role of institutional capacity, measured by control of corruption, regulatory quality, and financial development. The empirical estimation in this paper is based on a two-step system generalized method of moments (SGMM), in order to control for unobserved heterogeneity and potential endogeneity of all the explanatory variables. The following are the main findings: First, youth unemployment is persistent in Africa. Second, quality of basic education exerts a negative impact on youth unemployment. Third, greater control of corruption, improved regulatory quality, and better structured financial sectors strengthen the effect of quality basic education in reducing youth unemployment. These findings provide a clear policy pathway for reducting youth unemployment. In particular, we recommend that better quality basic education, a well-structured financial structure, and institutional quality should constitute a fundamental component of the policy mix to reduce youth unemployment in Africa.

This monograph is modeling an entrepreneurial success among graduates to motivate graduates in the future to choose entrepreneurship as their career path. From past studies, it is found that psychosocial factors (social support, work experience, university experience, mentoring) contribute to entrepreneurial quality which in turn leads to entrepreneurial success. It is believed that social support in this case, the environment where we are, our family, friends, cultures are somehow have some impact to not only intention to become an entrepreneur but also to the success of an entrepreneur. Work experience gives some insight how to start and run a business, hence it helps to shape someone to be an entrepreneur. Some studies also reveal that simulating a business in university life either in a business project or being mentored by an entrepreneur plays an important role in the success of those who would become an entrepreneur.

In the past few decades, a number of organizations have implemented Quality Management Systems (QMS) to create a culture of continuous quality improvement and improve business performance. Various QMS implemented in organizations are ISO 9000 Standards, Total Quality Management, AS Aerospace Standards, and many more. These standards cover aspects such as management leadership, process management, teamwork, quality improvement, and supplier and customer relations. The implementation of QMS is ultimately expected to improve overall business performance. In this thesis, we study the overall impact of implementation of QMS on various business performance factors. These performance factors include information quality, operating performance, design performance, environmental performance, product and service quality, supplier and customer relationships and competitive priorities. To study the impact of implementation of QMS on these business performance factors, we proposed a hypothesis model linking these performance factors, showing how improvement in one factor brings improvement in other factor. In this regard, a questionnaire was prepared related to implementation of QMS on business performance factors, and a survey study was conducted with professionals involved in quality management and engineering to collect their iv views on implementation of QMS. The collected data was analyzed with the help of statistical techniques such as Factor analysis, Descriptive statistics and Regression analysis, to study the proposed hypothesized relationships in the model. The results of our study show that organizations often implement QMS as a catalyst for change and use them in daily practice. Most of the proposed hypotheses are found to have significant positive relationship, whereas not enough significance is found between information quality and environmental performance, between design performance and product quality, and between environmental performance and product quality. It is recommended as future work to collect more data to statistically validate the relationships between design performance and product quality and between environmental performance and product quality. Keywords: QMS, Information Quality, Product Quality, Service Quality, Business performance.

The last decade has seen wide changes in how quality standards are applied in industry. We now have two functions: quality assurance and process improvement. Quality assurance focuses primarily on product quality, while process improvement focuses on process quality; the principles of quality cost support both. The purpose of this book remains the same as the third edition: to provide a basic understanding of the principles of quality cost. Using this book, organizations can develop and implement a quality cost system to fit their needs. Used as an adjunct to overall financial management, these principles will help maintain vital quality improvement programs over extended timeframes. This fourth edition now includes information on the quality cost systems involved with the education, service, banking, and software development industries. You'll also find new material on ISO 9001, cost systems in small businesses, and activity based costing. Additional information on team-based problem-solving, customer satisfaction, and the costs involved with the defense industry are also offered.
