The aim of this successful book is to describe and analyse peculiarities of classical and quantum dynamics of a crystal as a spatially periodic structure. In the second revised and updated edition, the author focuses on low-dimensional models of crystals and on superlattices. Both traditional questions like the spectrum of vibrations, the idea of phonon gas, dislocations etc. and new aspects like the theory of quantum crystals, solitons in 1D crystals, dislocation theory of melting of 2D crystals etc. are discussed. The author gives an explanation of a set of phenomena which entered into solid state physics during the last decades. It is shown that the crystal properties are sensitive to the dimension of the crystal and its defect structure, and depend slightly on whether the periodic structure consists of atoms, or electrical dipoles, or magnetic moments (spins). Considerable attention is devoted to the dislocation mechanisms as a basis of the theory of plasticity and numerous technological applications of crystalline materials.

Life is simple. Thinking about it is complicated. Movement is simple. Stopping it is complicated. Thought is simple. Using it is complicated. So what we must do in life is take the simple things, make them complicated and then maybe find some truths and answers to the great mysteries of time and structure of the world order. In the past man has explored many of these issues as it is written in the books. However remember that all that is written is not so. It is complicated by reason of thinking of such. Much is written but much is lost. So, to get to the essence of things one must use one's own thinking and writing to master the great truths of all time.Does a duck think? How does a bird fly? What makes the rain fall from the sky? These mysteries still evade mankind.

The purpose of this book is to explain why molecular structure can be determined by single-crystal diffraction of X rays. It is not an account of the practical procedural details, but rather an account of the underlying physical principles, and the kinds of experiments and methods of handling the experimental data that are used.

Crystal Structure Determination written by Werner Massa and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-03-09 with Science categories.

A concise introduction to modern crystal structure determination, emphasizing both the crystallographic background and the successive practical steps. In the theoretical sections, more importance is attached to a good understanding, than to a rigorous mathematical treatment. The most important measuring techniques, including the use of modern area detectors, and the methods of data reduction, structure solution and refinement are discussed from a practical point of view. Special emphasis is put on the ability to recognize and avoid possible errors and traps, and to judge the quality of results.

The crystalline state is the most stable form of all solids and is very common in nature. This book discusses the structure of crystals and the ways in which they are described. The basic ideas of symmetry are introduced first. The lattice types which are possible are then examined and this leads to the fourteen Bravais lattices. There follows a careful treatment of the convolution operation and its applications to crystals and the calculation of Fourier transforms. These ideas allow crystal structure to be determined from the results of diffraction experiments. The effects of the thermal vibration of atoms and finite crystal size on these experiments is also explained. Throughout the text the emphasis is on understanding the results rather than on rigorous proofs.

Dynamical Theory Of Crystal Lattices written by Max Born and has been published by Oxford University Press, USA this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1985 with Crystal lattices categories.

Although Born and Huang's classic work on the dynamics of crystal lattices was published over thirty years ago, the book remains the definitive treatment of the subject. It begins with a brief introduction to atomic forces, lattice vibrations and elasticity, and then breaks off into four sections. The first section deals with the general statistical mechanics of ideal lattices, leading to the electric polarizability and to the scattering of light. The second section deals with the properties of long lattice waves, the third with thermal properties, and the fourth with optical properties.
