The art of collaboration possesses the innate potential to either greatly enhance or fatally wound the production process. By definition, collaboration is the bringing together of ideas from all involved parties to create a cohesive, multidimensional product. Frequently, however, collaboration can hinder the production process by over-communicating, over-analyzing, and the presence of a dominant singular source. It is my goal to support the collaborative process while simultaneously curbing the notion that stellar theatre does not exist without it. Although challenging, collaboration can be achieved through self-motivated work by individual designers who are inevitably able to achieve their own vision while concurrently creating a singular piece of art through collaboration. Collaboration is a ubiquitous, chameleon like art form that when utilized properly can be an imperative tool for designers throughout their creative process.

"This leadership analysis examines the effects of collaboration and communication within organizations. Collaboration is a group of people working together to make one goal or one project happen, but they are working together and feeding off one another. Communication is the purposeful activity of information exchange between two or more participants in order to convey or receive the intended meanings through a shared system of signs and semiotic rules. Collaboration and communication are very essential. This analysis will present ways to build collaborative teams, discuss the challenges that affect the collaboration process as well as the impact of effective collaboration."--Abstract leaf.

This capstone addresses the effects of collaboration on teachers' collegial relationships, job performance, and job satisfaction. It explores the various ways in which teachers work with one another and discusses the circumstances under which such collaboration proves beneficial for teachers and students. Key influences included the author's own experiences in teaching, in particular a reform within her school district mandating that teachers work collaboratively in small learning communities (SLCs), as well as works by authors such as Little, van Wessum, Nias, Achinstein, and Rosenholtz. The research method was qualitative in nature and consisted of a survey given to six teachers participating in the SLCs in the author's school. The survey assessed the general perceptions of collaboration and its effects on these teachers. The teachers reported that they found the collaboration within the SLCs to be a positive experience overall and that they particularly appreciated the opportunities to discuss student problems.

Teacher collaboration has been widely implemented in the secondary school setting as an integral component within a professional learning community in an effort to increase student achievement and to foster a better working environment for teachers. The effects of teacher collaboration on both students and teachers of Earth science in a high school environment were investigated in this project. Particularly, the project examined the effects of collaboration of Earth science teachers on student understanding, student motivation, and teacher motivation. Results indicated that student understanding and teacher motivation increased, while the results on student motivation were mixed. The data showed a large gain in student understanding as a result of collaboration on instruction, whereas the level of student motivation was deemed negligible. Teachers in the collaborative group were observed to have increased levels of motivation as a result of the group's collaborative efforts. The project was an enhancement of my own level of motivation as well.

Most notable was inclusion in the individual essay of arguments and evidence supporting the opposing partner’s position, particularly when the ideas presented supported the opposite side of the argument. Both of these developments support the view that collaborative writing aids in the development of an argumentative mindset that transforms inter-individual dialogue into intra-individual reflection.

Network data were collected through a social network analysis protocol. The data collection effort is set within the context of the demand-supply planning function of the Defense Logistics Agency, a multi-billion dollar logistics provider for military customers worldwide. Multiple regression analysis was used to test the hypothesized association between key attributes of collaborative networks and performance outcomes in the face of supply chain disruption.

Inclusion in general education classrooms is now widely accepted as an appropriate placement for students with varying levels of disabilities. Although inclusion is often mandated, general education teachers do not feel adequately trained in inclusion practices and therefore have negative attitudes toward inclusion. This paper examines various causes for these attitudes, if collaborating with special education teachers makes general education teachers' attitudes change in regards to inclusion, and the benefits to students of collaboration. Finally, implications are made regarding the kind of training general education teachers should receive in collaborative and inclusive practices, and the need to strengthen pre-service training and professional development in order for general education teachers' attitudes toward inclusion to become more positive.

The purpose of this meta-analysis was to investigate the effect of collaborative learning on student achievement. The sample of the study consisted of 20 representative studies involving 2434 participants selected from an extensive literature search based on the use of collaborative activities in a formal education setting cutting across multiple grade levels and subject domains. Analysis of representative studies (k = 28) yielded a moderately weighted average effect size of 0.26. A mixed effects model was used for the analysis of the moderators of effect size. The research design was not significant across true and quasi- designs. Two groups – high collaboration (Experimental condition) and no or less collaboration (control condition) – were compared to measure the effect of collaborative learning on the dependent variable of student achievement. The analyses of moderator variables were not significant or suffered from a lack of statistical power (i.e., grade levels). Implications for the use of the collaborative learning are discussed, and recommendations for future researchers are suggested along with the limitation and conclusions. Keywords: collaborative learning, meta-analysis, student achievement.
