How do you think society might be affected if empathy was taught in schools? Imagine a world in which everyone, children and adults, knew how to care about how others feel and what they need, want, and think. The author believes while each individual has a unique capacity for empathy, some more than others, empathy can be assisted and encouraged for those who are either very motivated or who possess even a small degree of empathic aptitude. For example, empathic development may require an awareness of one's own emotions in order to begin to feel connected with the emotions of others. Now for the first time, we have a set of tools to actually learn empathy so that it becomes part of one's way of relating to others. The author describes ten practical exercises to enable the development of empathy and thereby aid the transformation of the self, the community, and human society.

Influential popular philosopher Roman Krznaric argues our brains are wired for social connection: empathy is at the heart of who we are. It's an essential, transforming quality we must develop for the 21st Century. Through encounters with actors, activists, groundbreaking designers, undercover journalists, nurses, bankers and neuroscientists, Krznaric defines a new breed of adventurer. He sets out the six life-enhancing habits of highly empathic people, whose skills enable them to connect with others in extraordinary ways. Empathy has the power to transform relationships, from the personal to the political. Krznaric contends that, as we move on from an age of introspection, empathy will be key to fundamental social change - making this book a manifesto for revolution.

Leverage the benefits of empathy to get the results you want EMPATHY SUCKS. Not long ago, Dr. Nicole Price would have dared anyone to say otherwise. Referred to as the Nickinator by her coworkers, Price wore her zero-empathy philosophy like a badge of honor. Today, that well-meaning, logical, reasonable, results-focused engineer who could not comprehend why people simply could not do the job they committed themselves to without coaxing, cajoling, or hand holding has experienced a revelation: Commitment works both ways--employee to employer and employer to employee. Commitment requires mutual understanding, and true, mutual understanding requires the practice of empathy. This was not an overnight revelation for Price, but one that has developed as a result of life-altering experiences and the guidance of friend and mentor, Dr. Ian Roberts. Once a disbeliever, Price has set herself on a path to ignite an empathy revolution. In Spark the Heart: Engineering Empathy in Your Organization, Price shares her personal evolution of becoming the empathetic leader she is today along with insightful guidance to help you on your own empathetic leadership journey. Empathy is a strength and a critical skill of any successful leader. Leading with empathy is about understanding others and then strategically leveraging that understanding to make progress. The Space Between written by Heidi L. Maibom and has been published by Oxford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-07-08 with Philosophy categories.

When Barack Obama nominated Sonia Sotomayor to the US Supreme Court, his comments that a judge should have the heart, the empathy, to recognize what it's like to be a young teenage mom, the empathy to understand what it's like to be poor or African-American or gay, disabled, or old caused a furor. Objective, reasoned, and impartial judgment were to be replaced by partiality, sentiment, and bias, critics feared. This concern about empathy has since been voiced not just by conservative critics, but by academics and public figures. In The Space Between, Heidi Maibom combines results from philosophy, psychology, and neuroscience to argue that rather than making us more biased or partial, empathy makes us more impartial and more objective. The problem is that we don't see the world objectively in the first place, Maibom explains. We see it in terms of how we are placed in it: as an extension of our interests, capabilities, and relationships. This is a perspective and it determines what we pay attention to, how we interpret events, and what matters to us individually. It is not private, however. By means of the imagination, Maibom contends, we can place ourselves in another person's web interests, capabilities, and relationships and, viewing the world from there, experience a new way of interpreting and valuing what happens. This broadens and deepens our understanding of others and the world around us. It also helps us understand the greater reality of who we are ourselves. Maibom's book weaves together results from philosophy, psychology, and neuroscience to provide a positive up-to-date view of what it really means to take another person's perspective, and how empathy, rather than being the enemy of objectivity, is the foundation of it.
