The Last Mountain is a fascinating biography of the famous British American artist, Robert Wood (1889-1979). A landscape artist of relevant stature, Robert Wood has painted in the best traditions of John Constable and George Inness and many others as famous. Sumptuous in color, correct in drawing, his landscapes are unique. His passion for storms, his reflections on the brilliantly colored pastoral scenes, his awe for the majestic mountains and valleys of the American West with its shorelines and vistas that run into the Pacific are all included in his works. Mrs. Flume was a close friend and admirer of Robert Wood. In this book, she describes the artist's ninety year span of life, from his early years in England to his years in Texas and California. She also brings together an array of personal photos on the artist's life as well as many of his color canvasses. Of special interest to artists and amateurs are the sections on How Robert Wood Painted and His Palette and Painting Notes. These tell how he painted the sky in connection with sunny days, mountains, shorelines, snow, etc. He gives the colors for the trees together with their trunks, limbs, and foliage, as well of grass, snow, water and flowers. In all of this, Violet has succeeded in giving the reader and the lover of art a real insight into the spiritual and physical world of one of today's most revered American artists.

With rapidly rising rates of mental health disorders, changing patterns of occurrence, and increasing levels of morbidity, the need for a better understanding of the developmental origins and influence of mental health on children’s behavioral health outcomes has become critical. This need for better understanding extends to both the growing prevalence of mental health disorders as well as the role and impact of neurodevelopmental pathways in their onset and expression. Addressing these changes in disease patterns and effects on children and families will require a multifaceted approach that goes beyond simply making changes to clinical care or adding personnel to the health services system. New policies, financing, and implementation can put established best practices and numerous research findings from around the country into action. The Maternal and Child Health Life Course Intervention Research Network and the Forum for Children's Well-Being at the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine jointly organized a webinar series to explore how mental health disorders develop over the life course, with a special emphasis on prenatal, early, middle, and later childhood development. This series centered on identifying gaps in our knowledge, exploring possible new strategies for using existing data to enhance understanding of the developmental origins of mental disorders, reviewing potential approaches to prevention and optimization, and proposing new ways of framing how to understand, address, and prevent these disorders from a life course development perspective. This publication summarizes the presentations and discussions from the series.

This volume of the Yale Series of Younger Poets explores love, grief, the opioid epidemic, and coming of age "Elegiac and witty."--Elisa Gabbert, New York Times, "The Best Poetry of 2022" "These poems name the hurt wrought upon the meek that makes the elegy, here, as much an exaltation of the living as a mournful dirge for the land."--Major Jackson, Vanderbilt University The 116th volume of the Yale Series of Younger Poets, Robert Wood Lynn's collection of poems explores the tensions of youth and the saturation points of knowledge: those moments when the acquisition of understanding overlaps with regret and becomes a desire to know less. Comprising poems of place set across the Virginias, this collection includes an episodic elegy exploring the opioid crisis in the Shenandoah Valley as well as a separate series of persona poems reimagining the Mothman (West Virginia's famed cryptid) reluctantly coming of age in that state's mountains and struggling with the utility of warnings. These are narrative poems of love and grief, built from a storytelling tradition. Taken together they form an arc encompassing the experience of growing up, looking away, and looking back.

History The Poet written by Robert Wood and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017 with Australian essays categories.

History & the Poet is a series of essays on contemporary Australian poetry. In language clear and precise, Robert Wood poses philosophical and ideological questions that matter for poetry now. History & the Poet offers an entry point to a rich and complex world, and is a compelling vision of what poetry can become. It includes discussion of Wood's own experiences and identity as part of a broader conversation about who we are and why poetry matters. This is a welcome and fearless set of writings by Robert Wood: he's unafraid to talk about poetry and its centrality to his life and the many, varied communities within which he moves. These short essays are lively, vivid impressions of how poetry provides a way of understanding the world, politics and history. Sometimes aphoristic, sometimes humorous, they remind us of our expanding linguistic universe, and especially the rich language communities of Australia, including the Indigenous ones. These writings are part of a brilliant, younger generation's new uptake of poetry and poetics - a lot of readers will wish to live in their world.
