Mixing processes occur in many technological and natural applications, with length and time scales ranging from the very small to the very large. The diversity of problems can give rise to a diversity of approaches. Are there concepts that are central to all of them? Are there tools that allow for prediction and quantification? The authors show how a variety of flows in very different settings possess the characteristic of streamline crossing. This notion can be placed on firm mathematical footing via Linked Twist Maps (LTMs), which is the central organizing principle of this book. The authors discuss the definition and construction of LTMs, provide examples of specific mixers that can be analyzed in the LTM framework and introduce a number of mathematical techniques which are then brought to bear on the problem of fluid mixing. In a final chapter, they present a number of open problems and new directions.

Analysis And Control Of Mixing With An Application To Micro And Macro Flow Processes written by Luca Cortelezzi and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009-11-28 with Technology & Engineering categories.

The analysis and control of mixing is of great interest because of the potential for optimizing the performance of many flow processes. This monograph presents a unique overview of the physics, mathematics and state-of-the-art theoretical/numerical modeling and experimental investigations of mixing. It approaches the subject of mixing from many angles: presents theoretical and experimental results, discusses laminar and turbulent flows, considers macro and micro scales, elaborates on purely advective and advective-diffusive flows, and considers conceptual and industrial-relevant mixing devices. This monograph provides an essential reading for graduate students and postdoctoral researches interested in the investigation of mixing, and constitutes an indispensable reference for mechanical, chemical and aeronautical engineers, and applied mathematicians in universities and industries.

The Kinematics Of Mixing written by J. M. Ottino and has been published by Cambridge University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1989 with Health & Fitness categories.

In spite of its universality, mixing is poorly understood and generally speaking, mixing problems are attacked on a case-by-case basis. This is the first book to present a unified treatment of the mixing of fluids from a kinematical viewpoint. The author's aim is to provide a conceptually clear basis from which to launch analysis and to facilitate an understanding of the numerous mixing problems encountered in nature and technology. After presenting the necessary background in kinematics and fluid dynamics, Professor Ottino considers various examples of dealing with necessary background in dynamical systems and chaos. The book assumes little previous knowledge of fluid dynamics and dynamical systems and can be used as a textbook by final-year undergraduates, graduate students and researchers in applied mathematics, engineering science, geophysics and physics who have an interest in fluid dynamics, continuum mechanics and dynamical systems. It is profusely illustrated in colour, with many line diagrams and half-tones. Systems which illustrate the most important concepts, many exercises and examples are included.

Recent Improvements In The Theory Of Chaotic Attractors written by René Lozi and has been published by CRC Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2025-02-19 with Mathematics categories.

This book presents some exceptional developments in chaotic attractor theory encompassing several new directions of research such as three-dimensional axiom A-diffeomorphisms, Shilnikov attractors, dendrites and finite graphs. The theory of chaotic attractors has experienced exceptional development over the last fifty years since the revelation of chaos in mathematics (invented by James Yorke) and symbolized by the “butterfly effect”. Relevant new results have been collected in this book, including: Some remarks on minimal sets on dendrites and finite graphs and the study of recurrence and nonwandering sets of local dendrite maps. Ramified continua as global attractors of C1- smooth self-maps of a cylinder close to skew products Chaotic behaviour of countable products of homeomorphism groups and dynamics of three-dimensional axiom A-diffeomorphisms with two-dimensional attractors and repellers. The search for invariant sets of the generalized tent map and quasi-hyperbolic regime in a certain family of 2-D piecewise linear map. Shilnikov attractors of three-dimensional flows and maps, right fractional calculus to inverse-time chaotic maps and asymptotic stability analysis and diffeomorphisms with infinitely many Smale horseshoes. The theory of chaotic attractor is also used as a core for evolutionary algorithms and metaheuristic optimizers in this volume. This book will be of great value to students and researchers in mathematics, physics, engineering, and related disciplines seeking to deepen their understanding of chaotic dynamical systems and their applications. The chapters in this book were originally published in Journal of Difference Equations and Applications.
