Everyone has a different answer for what the Self is. But do they have any idea what it really is? Is the Self actually the fundamental unit of existence? Many people are happy to believe that the universe is made of matter. What would it mean to say that the universe is made of mind? If material atoms are made of subatomic particles, what would immaterial minds be made of? The only thing a mind can be made of is thoughts. After all, that's what a mind does. It thinks. What does thinking mean? It means using thoughts. It means combining "atomic" thoughts into "molecular" thoughts. In physics, string theory claims that reality is made up of infinitesimally small, one-dimensional vibrating strings. As the strings vibrate, twist, fold, come together and split apart, they produce all the effects that traditional physics addresses, all the stuff to do with atoms and their interactions, and including large-scale material phenomena like gravity. But what if the real "strings" were actually zero-dimensional rather than one-dimensional, and immaterial rather than material? What if they were actually what thoughts are, and so to say that physics arises out of material strings could be replaced by the statement that physics is made out of immaterial thoughts? Where strings are one-dimensional, extended and material, thoughts are zero-dimensional, unextended and immaterial, but their combinations produce dimensional, material, extended things (thanks to the incredible properties of phase in ontological Fourier mathematics). All you have to do to replace materialism (reality is made of matter) with idealism (reality is made of mind) is to reduce scientific "strings" to their analytic mental equivalents, which turn out to be sinusoidal waves, which exist in the mathematical precursor domain that serves as the origin, the cause, of the domain of physics. Mathematics, in itself, is a dimensionless Singularity system. Ontological mathematics is the subject that deals with the mathematical Singularity that precedes the Big Bang. This Singularity, when properly understood, comprises autonomous selves – called monads – made of basis thoughts, which are none other than sinusoidal waves. The self is an eternal and necessary entity. It has existed forever, and it, with its fellow selves, is the author of everything. We inhabit a universe of mental selves, not of physical matter. Selves create matter. Matter does not create selves.

Our experience of a unified sense of the self is underwritten by a multiplicity of self-aspects having very different metaphysical commitments. Our experience of unity is provided by a process-which, under certain clinical conditions, is rendered inoperative-that enables a person to experience mental states as personally owned.

The object of this study is to find a coherent theoretical approach to three problems which appear to interrelate in complex ways: (1) What is the ontological status of consciousness? (2) How can there be 'un conscious,' 'prereflective' or 'self-alienated' consciousness? And (3) Is there a 'self' or 'ego' formed by means of the interrelation of more elementary states of consciousness? The motivation for combining such a diversity of difficult questions is that we often learn more by looking at interrelations of problems than we could by viewing them only in isola tion. The three questions posed here have emerged as especially prob lematic in the context of twentieth century philosophy. 1. The question of the ontological status of consciousness The question 'What is consciousness?' is one of the most perplexing in philosophy-so perplexing that many have been motivated to proceed as though consciousness did not exist. If William James was speaking rhetorically when he said "Consciousness does not exist," 1 many behaviorists of the recent past were not. 2 James meant only to imply that consciousness is not an independently existing soul-substance, along side physical substances. He did not mean that we do not really 'have' consciousness, and he did not provide final resolution for the problem of the causal interrelations between consciousness and the physical realm (e. g. , our bodies). Many recent philosophers and psychologists, however, try to proceed as though these problems did not exist.

Reality exists independently of human observers, but does the same apply to its structure? Realist ontologies usually assume so: according to them, the world consists of objects, these have properties and enter into relations with each other, more or less as we are accustomed to think of them. Against this view, Rein Raud develops a radical process ontology that does not credit any vantage point, any scale or speed of being, any range of cognitive faculties with the privilege to judge how the world ‘really’ is. In his view, what we think of as objects are recast as fields of constitutive tensions, cross-sections of processes, never in complete balance but always striving for it and always reconfiguring themselves accordingly. The human self is also understood as a fluctuating field, not limited to the mind but distributed all over the body and reaching out into its environment, with different constituents of the process constantly vying for control. The need for such a process philosophy has often been voiced, but rarely has there been an effort to develop it in a systematic and rigourous manner that leads to original accounts of identity, continuity, time, change, causality, agency and other topics. Throughout his new book, Raud engages with an unusually broad range of philosophical schools and debates, from New Materialism and Object-Oriented Ontology to both phenomenological and analytical philosophy of mind, from feminist philosophy of science to neurophilosophy and social ontology. Being in Flux will be of interest to students and scholars in philosophy and the humanities generally and to anyone interested in current debates about realism, materialism and ontology.

Consciousness And The Ontology Of Properties written by Mihretu P. Guta and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-07-20 with Philosophy categories.

This book aims to show the centrality of a proper ontology of properties in thinking about consciousness. Philosophers have long grappled with what is now known as the hard problem of consciousness, i.e., how can subjective or qualitative features of our experience—such as how a strawberry tastes—arise from brain states? More recently, philosophers have incorporated what seems like promising empirical research from neuroscience and cognitive psychology in an attempt to bridge the gap between measurable mental states on the one hand, and phenomenal qualities on the other. In Consciousness and the Ontology of Properties, many of the leading philosophers working on this issue, as well as a few emerging scholars, have written 14 new essays on this problem. The essays address topics as diverse as substance dualism, mental causation, the metaphysics of artificial intelligence, the logic of conceivability, constitution, extended minds, the emergence of consciousness, and neuroscience and the unity and neural correlates of consciousness, but are nonetheless unified in a collective objective: the need for a proper ontology of properties to understand the hard problem of consciousness, both on non-empirical and empirical grounds.

Structuring The Self written by Majid Davoody Beni and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-10-10 with Philosophy categories.

This book presents a unified account of the self, based on a network of knowledge sourced from several scientific accounts of selfhood. Beni constructs his ontological account of the self from the common structure that underpins the theoretical diversity that is manifested in rival and sometimes incompatible scientific accounts of the self and its aspects. The enterprise is inspired by recent structural realist theories in the philosophy of science, specifying the basic structure of the self, and explaining how representational, phenomenal, and social aspects of the self are embodied within this structure.
