Pope Francis Morning Homilies written by Pope Francis and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015 with Religion categories.

Each morning Pope Francis says Mass and offers a short homily for fellow residents and guests in the chapel of St. Martha's Guesthouse, where he has chosen to live. Through these accounts of his morning homilies, drawn from September 2013 to January 2014, it is now possible, for those not present, to experience and enjoy his lively manner of speaking, and his capacity to engage his listeners and their daily lives with the joy of the gospel message. Most striking is the Pope's intimacy and spontancity. Here is not the voice of a pontiff addressing the cares of the world, the universal church, or even the church of Rome, but a pastor sharing the Word of God with his immediate flock. He directs the message as much to himself as anyone else, acknowledging the same challenges, seeking the same consolation and healing. As in the previous published volume, the homilies are marked by humour and memorable images. But even more important are the themes that arise again and again: the importance of mercy and forgiveness; the role of Jesus as Saviour; the dangers of a church closed in on itself; and the gospel as an unfailing source of life and joy. Ilya is the uncouth, uneducated son of ardent Communist workers who becomes a war hero in the Red Army. After the war, however, he experiences a radical conversion to Christianity and becomes a priest, but also eventually a KGB general and Metropolitan of Leningrad. Captivated by the prophecy of Russia's return to Christianity contained in the appearance of the Virgin Mary to a few simple shepherds in Portugal, Ilya decides he must make overtures to the new pontiff in an effort toward ecumenical collaboration that will facilitate the fulfilment of the prophecy. When he leaves for Rome, his KGB superiors plot to have him assassinated, and the Mafia contacts involved also plot the assassination of John Paul. Dostoevsky meets Le Carr in this rich tapestry of intrigue, betrayal, heroism, and faith. L'hte du Pape (2004) is Vladimir Volkoff's next-to-last novel and is, perhaps, his best. It combines Cold War strategizing and hints of the mysterious workings of the Holy Spirit in human affairs. Action takes place primarily in the USSR, Rome, and Portugal, and includes significant flashbacks to World War II. Volkoff takes the skimpy historical details of Pope John Paul I's mysterious death and the equally mysterious death of a Russian prelate in his arms just days before--and fleshes out the story as only a good espionage novelist could do, but with the added dimension of the role that divine providence could have been playing in these events. There is the stuff of a thriller here, but it is a serious novel written in a richly varied style that includes the brutal, coarse argot of the underworld, the allusiveness of an accomplished artist, and the soaring mysticism of the saints.

A spiritual adventure like no other, The Papal Visitor answers the question, "What would happen if Heaven just revealed itself to Earth once and for all?" From Heaven and Hell to Rome, New York, Moscow, London, Maui, and all across the planet, watch as the truth spreads, and the shocking ramifications unfold. All eyes are on the pope, who seems to be getting some horrible advice from a most unholy source!Excerpt: Halfway across the large room, he was stopped as the man appeared before him from thin air. “I'm not here to hurt you,” he said. “I come with tidings of great joy.” Mustering all the energy he could, he created a circle of light around himself. As the pope fell to his knees and bowed before him, the visitor smiled. This will be much easier than I thought. “Stand, Your Holiness,” he said, and the pope slowly stood and looked into the eyes of the being before him, the light around him now quickly dimming. He was dressed in a slick, dark blue suit. The thinnest of stripes ran down the middle of each side. A thin red tie knotted perfectly capped the bright white dress shirt, and his eyes were—friendly. The pope was in awe of this visitor, but very scared too. “Pope Thomas, God needs your help. We all do. Change is coming to Planet Earth, and you are going to help us win the hearts of many.” ...The pope smiled earnestly and nodded, and then shook the open hand being offered him from the visitor. There was no way he could have known he was making a deal with Hell, no hint to the kinds of evil the pope would soon be bringing to the world in God's holy name.

From his morning homilies, Pope Francis offers his unforgettable reflections on the gospel. Each morning Pope Francis says Mass and offers a short homily for fellow residents and guests in the chapel of St. Martha's Guesthouse, where he has chosen to live. These homilies reflect the spontaneous and original style that has won hearts throughout the world, as well as his power to communicate the gospel message with depth and freshness. In these accounts of Pope Francis's morning homilies from the first five months of his papacy, it is now possible, for those who were not present, to experience and enjoy his lively manner of spaeking, and his capacity to engage his listeners and their daily lives. Thus, we hear his reflections on the Emmaus disciples who were "simmering their lives in the sauce of their grumbling"; on Christians who must keep facing reality, "ready, like the goalkeeper of a football team, to stop the ball wherever it comes from." The pope speaks of the true God of faith and of "a diffuse god, a god-spray, that is a bit everywhere, but we don't know what it is"; of "intellectuals without talent" and "ethicists without kindness"; of "going to confession like going to the dry cleaners"; of a "holy picture face" which conceals our own sinfulness. But more important than these vivid images are the themes of Pope Francis: the importance of mercy and forgiveness; the role of Jesus as Savior; the dangers of a church closed in on itself; the gospel as a source of life and joy.

"Thirty years after the close of Vatican II, we have this fresh revelation of the 'strange Roman experience' of the twenty-three women from fourteen different countries invited to be auditors at the previously all male Council. You will not want to stop before the end." -- Marie Augusta Neal, SND de Namur, Professor of Sociology, Emerita, Emmanuel College, Boston "An important and necessary history that will find great interest for a long time." --Bernard Haring, Moral Theologian "Facts buried in archives come alive in the living voices of these women who now share the 'dangerous memory' of their presence at Vatican II. Carmel McEnroy tells this story with keen insight into women's oppression in the Church, an eye for the humorous detail, and great narrative flair. Thank goodness she rescued this piece of history before it disappeared over the horizon like so much else." --Elizabeth A. Johnson, CSJ, Professor of Theology, Fordham University "This interesting historical investigation of the exclusion and participation of women at the Vatican Council reveals the dynamics of communication within the Church, including its systematic distortions and the forgiving fidelity of dedicated women. I am glad that this book has been written." --Gregory Baum, Professor of Theology, McGill University

England And The Avignon Popes written by Karsten Pluger and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-12-02 with History categories.

"Much has been written about the complex relationship between England and the papacy in the 14th century, yet the form (rather than the content) of the diplomatic intercourse between these two protagonists has not hitherto been examined in detail. Drawing on a wide range of unpublished sources, Pluger explores the techniques of communication employed by the Crown in its dealings with Clement VI (1342-52) and Innocent VI (1352-62). Methodologies of social and cultural history and of International Relations are brought to bear on the analysis of the dialogue between Westminster and Avignon, resulting in a more complete picture of 14th-century Anglo-papal relations in particular and of medieval diplomatic practice in general."

My Brother The Pope written by Georg Ratzinger and has been published by Ignatius Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-01-30 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

Be sure to check out the for more information. It wasn't always the case that Msgr. Georg Ratzinger lived in the shadow of his younger brother, Joseph. Georg was an accomplished musician, who for over 30 years directed the Regensburger Domspatzchor, the world-famous boys choir of the Regensburg cathedral. Brother Joseph was a brilliant young professor, but mostly known in German academic circles. Now Georg writes about the close friendship that has united these two brothers for more than 80 years. This book is a unique window on an extraordinary family that lived through the difficult period of National Socialism in Germany. Those interested in knowing more about the early life of Benedict XVI will not be disappointed. They will also learn of the admirable character and inspiring example of the parents, and see how the Catholic faith can shape not just a family, but an entire culture-in this case, that of Bavaria. Georg's reminiscences are detailed, intimate, and warm. And while they begin with the earliest years of the Ratzinger family, they continue right up to the present day. This is not simply a book to satisfy curiosity about a "celebrity", though it certainly does that. It's a beautiful portrait of Catholic family life and, in the most literal sense, of enduring fraternal charity. Georg has a talent for telling a story, and the co-author fills in some of the larger historical background. The many photographs, both in black and white and in color, round out a thoroughly enjoyable and inspirational book. Illustrated with 47 photographs.
