Excerpt from The Poverty of Philosophy For Germany the present work has just at this moment a significance which Marx himself never foresaw. How could he have known that, in trouncing Proudhon, he was hitting Rod bertus, the idol of the place hunters of today, whose very name was then unknown to him? This is not the place to deal with the relation of Marx to Rod bertus; an Opportunity for that is sure to occur to me very soon. Excerpt from The Philosophy of Ragged Schools This outbreak of popular discontent, - ay, and this demonstration too, of popular power, which frightened all Europe from its propriety, is just now lulled: but is it quieted altogether? - has military execution sweetened the bitter cup of poverty, or can we expect that a tranquillity so procured will be lasting? This is a question which all ask themselves, from the throne to the cottage - can any one give a satisfactory answer? Even while the writer is preparing these sheets for the press, events may solve the problem, and then, will England, whose anchors held firm during the strain of the last storm, ride out another equally well? The question is no light one, and deserves, not more attention, but wiser attention than has yet been bestowed upon it. The Poverty of Philosophy: Readings in Non and Other Philosophies and Arts of Imminence kicks off with an 8,000 word overture, "Poverty of Philosophy" introducing non-philosophy and its progenitor, François Laruelle, his inspirations by, rapports and connections with other 'philosophers of immanence' (Nietzsche, Henry, Deleuze, Derrida...) as well as exploring, and also drawing some conclusions as to the possibilities of its present, and/or feasible impact on culture, politics and the arts, there follows the Anthology of NON, and other Philosophies and Arts of Immanence, comprised of some 300 excerpts from some 140 published sources, many signed by Laruelle, and many of the others by French, Anglophone, as well as Eastern European writers, artists, philosophers, scholars, critics and thinkers who extend his insights in the various domains of human endeavor. Very often translated from the French, and frequently commented, these excerpts are arranged alphabetically under 88 topics, from Actor to World, the complete list of them following my introduction, in a table of contents keyed to page #'s for each of them. Following are close readings in Beitchman's five review essays, two of works of Laruelle, and of three by scholars here very much in his wake: "The Machinery of Control (Sophie Lesueur, "Pensée machine et ordre politique")"; "Universe, World, Philo-Fiction and Non-Action in Non-philosophy (François Laruelle, Tétralogos: )"; "Ecology, Sacred and Profane (François Laruelle, En dernière humanité la nouvelle science écologique)"; "The Philo-Fictions of Katerina Kolozova (Cut of the Real and 5 other works)"; "A Leap through Language: Non-Philosophy, Science and the Arts (Sergueï Khoruzhiy, "La non-philosophie de François Laruelle entre le Charybde de la transraison et le Scylla du scientisme")." These essays provide a synoptic overview of non-philosophy from its inception to its latest non-standard philosophy avatar. Generally Beitchman's focus is on language and vocabulary, and their associated arts, principally literary and performing--and on the way terms like World, Universe, Superposition and Philo-fiction are deployed, defined, re-defined or refused definition; also how modern science, once fractals, now more Quantum and Wave theory, in concert with these imponderables, expands the horizon of the thinkable, conceivable and above all the feasible.

Excerpt from Some Problems of Philosophy To enumerate all of the difficulties of Philosophy which have thus far not been wholly removed would be to give a synop sis of a philosophical system. It is possi ble, however, to classify the problems and the difficulties which lie in the way of those who study Philosophy, and the recognition of obstacles is usually the first step toward their removal. Excerpt from The Grammar of Philosophy: A Study of Scientific Method Universe to look upon when I will; that shall be my 1esthetic Gallery. In short, some men are infinitely inferior to their terrestrial wealth; others, infinitely above it. Some are poverty-stricken amid golden spoons; others, wealthy behind horn table-appointments. True wealth is, in the right sense, a mental and spiritual property. Its measure is to be gauged by our faculty and' desire of entering into communion with Divine and High Beings and into the contemplation of great things - as when the Psalmist declared that he would rather keep a door in the Temple of God than dwell in the tents of sin. Many minds are so poverty-stricken, so debased, in their ignorance and grossness, that even the divinest scenery may move them no more than the sight of a wooden hoarding. They are no more struck with the majesty of Creation than a fly: accordingly, for aesthetics] purposes at least, they are no better than a fly. The founder of Communism was Karl Heinrich Marx (1818 -1883). Marx was a German philosopher, political economist, historian, sociologist, humanist, political theorist and revolutionary. The Communist Manifesto (1848) was his most important work. Mark said, "Just as capitalism replaced feudalism, socialism will in its turn replace capitalism and lead to a stateless, classless society which will emerge after a transitional period, the 'dictatorship of the proletariat." The Poverty of Philosophy discusses the distribution of economic wealth. Marx has a plan to produce a more democratic distribution of the wealth.

Excerpt from Some of the Philosophical Essays on Socialism and Science, Religion, Ethics, Critique-of-Reason and the World-at-Large Karl Marx makes a highly commendatory reference to the economic understanding of my father in the preface of the second edition of the first volume of Capital. He also visited my father in Siegburg. At this point I must remember another friend of my father's, who deeply influenced his mental development. This is Ludwig Feuerbach, with whom my father enter fained a correspondence. When in 1871 the news Of the poverty and death of this philosopher reached my father, I remember seeing him cry for the first time. Excerpt from The Science of Political Economy Progress and Poverty began. The great work is not done, but it is commenced. And can never go back. On the night on which I finished the final chapter of Progress and Poverty I felt that the talent entrusted to me had been accounted for - felt more fully satisfied, more deeply grateful than if all the king doms of the earth had been laid at my feet, and though the years have justified, not dimmed, my faith. There is still left for me something to do. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
