An inside view of the AI revolution, from the people and companies making it happen. How did we build large language models? How do they think, if they think? What will the world look like if we have billions of AIs that are as smart as humans, or even smarter? In a series of in-depth interviews with leading AI researchers and company founders—including Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, DeepMind cofounder Demis Hassabis, OpenAI cofounder Ilya Sutskever, MIRI cofounder Eliezer Yudkowsky, and Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg—Dwarkesh Patel provides the first comprehensive and contemporary portrait of the technology that is transforming our world. Drawn from his interviews on the Dwarkesh Podcast, these curated excerpts range from the technical details of how LLMs work to the possibility of an AI takeover or explosive economic growth. Patel’s conversations cut through the noise to explore the topics most compelling to those at the forefront of the field: the power of scaling, the potential for misalignment, the sheer input required for AGI, and the economic and social ramifications of superintelligence. The book is also a standalone introduction to the technology. It includes over 170 definitions and visualizations, explanations of technical points made by guests, classic essays on the theme from other writers, and unpublished interviews with Open Philanthropy research analyst Ajeya Cotra and Anthropic cofounder Jared Kaplan. The Scaling Era offers readers unprecedented insight into a transformative moment in the development of AI—and a vision of what comes next.

A biography of the author's background which provides insight into his training in medicine and his opinions on the concepts and training that are necessary to be a good doctor. The aims of this book are to first show how coronary angioplasty was pioneered in Australia, Singapore and China. Second, it is to illustrate the founding of a long-awaited medical school in Xiamen, China where the author's ancestors originate. Third, it is to describe the reformation of healthcare, cardiology, medical research and Art academy in Singapore. Fourth, it is to demonstrate the vision and realization of the third Asia Pacific cardiovascular intervention block. Last but not least, this book describes the merging of East West culture, medicine, art and a personal Christian testimony. This book hopes to show that with hard work, determination and vision, any young man or woman should be able to write a similar life story of their own. It is particularly important for young doctors to learn how not to bring grief but goodness to their patients and relatives. This book also illustrates the history of the development of coronary intervention in China and the rise of the Asia Pacific region in this field. Finally, this book provides a unique, personal perspective in the convergence of Eastern and Western culture, medicine and art.

Vilarinho and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2006-06-15 with Science categories.

As the characteristic dimensions of electronic devices continue to shrink, the ability to characterize their electronic properties at the nanometer scale has come to be of outstanding importance. In this sense, Scanning Probe Microscopy (SPM) is becoming an indispensable tool, playing a key role in nanoscience and nanotechnology. SPM is opening new opportunities to measure semiconductor electronic properties with unprecedented spatial resolution. SPM is being successfully applied for nanoscale characterization of ferroelectric thin films. In the area of functional molecular materials it is being used as a probe to contact molecular structures in order to characterize their electrical properties, as a manipulator to assemble nanoparticles and nanotubes into simple devices, and as a tool to pattern molecular nanostructures. This book provides in-depth information on new and emerging applications of SPM to the field of materials science, namely in the areas of characterisation, device application and nanofabrication of functional materials. Starting with the general properties of functional materials the authors present an updated overview of the fundamentals of Scanning Probe Techniques and the application of SPM techniques to the characterization of specified functional materials such as piezoelectric and ferroelectric and to the fabrication of some nano electronic devices. Its uniqueness is in the combination of the fundamental nanoscale research with the progress in fabrication of realistic nanodevices. By bringing together the contribution of leading researchers from the materials science and SPM communities, relevant information is conveyed that allows researchers to learn more about the actual developments in SPM applied to functional materials. This book will contribute to the continuous education and development in the field of nanotechnology.

Semiconductors are at the heart of modern living. Almost everything we do, be it work, travel, communication, or entertainment, all depend on some feature of semiconductor technology. Comprehensive Semiconductor Science and Technology, Second Edition, Three Volume Set captures the breadth of this important field and presents it in a single source to the large audience who study, make, and use semiconductor devices. Written and edited by a truly international team of experts and newly updated to capture key advancements in the field, this work delivers an objective yet cohesive review of the semiconductor world. The work is divided into three sections, fully updated and expanded from the first edition. The first section is concerned with the fundamental physics of semiconductors, showing how the electronic features and the lattice dynamics change drastically when systems vary from bulk to a low-dimensional structure and further to a nanometer size. Throughout this section there is an emphasis on the full understanding of the underlying physics, especially quantum phenomena. The second section deals largely with the transformation of the conceptual framework of solid-state physics into devices and systems, which require the growth of high-purity or doped, bulk and epitaxial materials with low defect density and well-controlled electrical and optical properties. The third section is devoted to design, fabrication and assessment of discrete and integrated semiconductor devices. It will cover the entire spectrum of devices we see all around us, for telecommunications, computing, automation, displays, illumination and consumer electronics. - Provides a comprehensive global picture of the semiconductor world - Written and Edited by an international team of experts - Compiles the most important semiconductor knowledge into one comprehensive resource - Moves from fundamentals and theory to more advanced knowledge, such as applications, allowing readers to gain a deeper understanding of the field
