Self-help Plus (SH+) is a WHO developed multimedia, guided self-help stress management course delivered over a period of five weeks to groups of up to 30 people at a time. It is delivered by supervised, non-specialist facilitators who complete a short training course and use pre-recorded audio and an illustrated guide (called Doing What Matters in Times of Stress – An Illustrated Guide) to teach stress management skills. The course is suitable for anyone who experiences stress, wherever they live and whatever their circumstances. The format of SH+ also makes it well suited for use alongside other mental health interventions, as a first step in a stepped care programme, or as a community intervention delivered alongside broader community programming.

Mental, Emotional and Behavioural Needs of the General Population Following COVID-19 in India: Findings from Qualitative and Quantitative Studies explores the psychological challenges arising from COVID-19 that impacted the Indian general population. The book contains comprehensive research, conducted during and post-pandemic, on economic, social, psychological and health factors in the context of recovery, handling, coping and resilience. It also offers practical approaches for reproducing results and outcomes. These studies unmask several challenges, coping mechanisms and interventions adopted by the general population. The book covers a wide range of mental health domains, including offering insight into the impact of COVID-19 on the mental health status of those who have sustained the atrocities of cross-border terrorism and mass migration for more than three decades, and can still find meaning in life. The book navigates the complexities of risk factors and digital mental health interventions along with understanding the experiences of the general population through the lens of cultural narrative. It explores the social stigma, transitional impact and ruminative experiences of people who passed through the psychological grinding times and paves the way for effective interventions and resilience-building strategies in the post-pandemic era. It is a valuable reading for researchers, mental health practitioners, policymakers and educators to learn about the most recent developments, concerns, real-world difficulties encountered and solutions taken in the mental health field following COVID-19, as well as offering implementable methods for replication.

The WHO constitution states: "Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity." There are multiple factors that contribute towards good mental health including civil liberties, politics, economics, social rights, and cultural diversity, and quality of life of the individual and the society as a whole. The promotion of mental health spans many disciplines in order to cover all these factors such as education, work, justice, housing, and welfare. Therefore, it is important to collaborate to create an environment that promotes and supports mental health to improve psychological well-being and allow individuals to realize their own abilities, work productively and contribute to society and live fulfilling lives. There is no health without mental health that is vital to individuals, families, communities, and societies across the world and so the goal of this Research Topic is to collate ideas and research of strategies for the promotion of mental health across all disciplines in order to raise awareness of mental health promotion and protection to ensure it’s incorporation in national mental health policies going forwards. This is of particular relevance given the mental health crisis being experienced across the world right now.

People living in war zones are exposed to numerous stressors, including physical harm, psychological trauma, loss, deprivation, bereavement, or abuse. In recent years, there has been growing acceptance that war-related stressors have the potential to pose a risk to health. Epidemiological studies also reveal the health consequences associated with war and trauma and agree that post-traumatic stress disorder and depression are common in war-affected populations. Since the turn of the last century, there have also been changes in the conception of war. Nowadays, wars have evolved into a new form that can affect larger masses, instead of hand-to-hand combat with cannons and rifles. War is an artificial disaster and differs from the kind of natural pandemic disaster that affects the whole world. Countless deaths forced abandonment of homes, families, friends, and property, and severe anxiety about war are experienced because of the war-related conditions for millions of humans.
