Current discussions about worship are often driven by pragmatics and personal preferences rather than by the teaching of Scripture. True worship, however, is our response to God's gracious revelation; in order to be acceptable to God, worship must be experienced on God's terms. Respected Old Testament scholar Daniel Block examines worship in the Bible, offering a comprehensive biblical foundation and illuminating Old Testament worship practices and principles. He develops a theology of worship that is consistent with the teachings of Scripture and is applicable for the church today. He also introduces readers to a wide range of issues related to worship. The book, illustrated with diagrams, charts, and pictures, will benefit professors and students in worship and Bible courses, pastors, and church leaders.

Humans are hardwired for awe. Our hearts are always captured by something - that's how God made us. But sin threatens to distract us from the glory of our Creator. All too often, we stand in awe of everything but God. Uncovering the lies we believe about all the earthly things that promise us peace, life, and contentment, Paul Tripp redirects our gaze to God's awe-inducing glory - showing how such a vision has the potential to impact our every thought, word, and deed. He looks at the subject of awe through a number of lenses: ministry, transgression, materialism, growth, worldview, church, parenting and work. Awe of God puts other things in their proper place. It enables us to see as God intended, to lift our eyes higher, and worship him alone.

Who were the Puritans? What did they seek to achieve? What were their successes and failures? Are they of any importance to Christians today? We firmly believe that all Christians need to discover the important story of how these men and women sought to follow Jesus Christ. Their convictions resulted in a brave and joyful faith, and the writing they have left us on the Christian life continues to be a rich resource for our own discipleship. Meeting the Puritans by listening to them has enriched both of us more than we can express. And so, in The Glory of Grace, we want to introduce you to people who had a deep love for Jesus Christ and a great vision for the Christian life. We all have much to learn‚]‚€‚] Each chapter contains a concise introduction followed by carefully selected excerpts from key Puritan works, together with suggestions for further reading.

Keeping In Touch written by Sj Michael Ivens and has been published by Gracewing Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2007 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

Both an original work by, and a tribute to, one of the most distinguished English-language experts on the Spiritual Exercises of St Ignatius Loyola: this book combines a series of essays exploring key terms used by Ignatius and a collection of reminiscences of Michael Ivens. His earlier commentary, Understanding the Spiritual Exercises, followed by his own translation of the Exercises, had established his reputation, but he was unable to include in his commentary the glossary of distinctive Ignatian terms that many find elusive or recondite. An understanding of such terms provides new avenues of approach and also displays the theological and spiritual substructure of the Exercises. Written during the final years of Michael's life, these essays are poignant in their sensitivity to the death he could see fast approaching. His notes on 'My medical history' are included, along with some candid and revealing memories from his friends. The figure of this great Jesuit comes alive in these pages, and his usual parting words to his visitors, 'Do keep in touch!' take on a new meaning. Michael Ivens (1933-2005) joined the Society of Jesus in 1951, straight from school, and received the usual training at that time (with degrees in Oxford and Lyons), spending fifteen years before ordination to the priesthood in 1966; an exceptional public speaker, gifted with an original mind, he worked mainly in the field of spirituality, writing regularly for The Way and gaining an international reputation as a retreat-giver. Appointed to help train his fellow Jesuits he spent nearly thirty years at St Beuno's (North Wales); for almost half of this time (from 1990) he was plagued with ill health (a brain tumour that eventually turned him blind), but he inspired many by his insight, tenacity and good humour. Joseph A. Munitiz, SJ, was a friend and colleague of Michael Ivens; his professional work has involved him mainly in editorial work (English, Spanish and Greek publications); now retired, he is based at the Jesuit novitiate in Birmingham.
