Bathed with the blood and tears of countless poets and authors and naturally expressing the most heartfelt emotions of ancient peoples, poems of mourning and texts of lament stand out in classical Chinese literature as brilliant and unique. Composed and celebrated over 3000 years, they are central to the Chinese literary tradition but have been largely unknown to English readers. Including over 100 major pieces by leading literary figures from 800 BCE – 1800, this is the first English anthology of classic Chinese poems of mourning and texts of sacrificial offering. With annotated translations by leading scholars and reading guides accompanying each piece, this book reveals a powerful literary heritage to students and serious readers of Chinese literature, history and civilization.

The Korean Singer Of Tales written by Marshall R. Pihl and has been published by BRILL this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-10-26 with Literary Criticism categories.

P’ansori, the traditional oral narrative of Korea, is sung by a highly trained soloist to the accompaniment of complex drumming. The singer both narrates the story and dramatizes all the characters, male and female. Performances require as long as six hours and make extraordinary vocal demands. In the first book-length treatment in English of this remarkable art form, Marshall R. Pihl traces the history of p’ansori from its roots in shamanism and folktales through its nineteenth-century heyday under highly acclaimed masters and discusses its evolution in the twentieth century. After examining the place of p’ansori in popular entertainment and its textual tradition, he analyzes the nature of texts in the repertoire and explains the vocal and rhythmic techniques required to perform them. Pihl’s superb translation of the alternately touching and comic "Song of Shim Ch’ong"--the first annotated English translation of a full p’ansori performance text--illustrates the emotional range, narrative variety, and technical complexity of p’ansori literature. The Korean Singer of Tales will interest not only Korean specialists, but also students of comparative literature, folklore, anthropology, and music.

‘The English Poetic Mind’ (1932) is Williams’ discussion of the source of the poetic impulse, creativity and drive behind three prominent English poets: Shakespeare, Milton and Wordsworth. The text is reflective of Williams’ imaginative and critical approach to literature and his appreciation of poetry and verse. Charles Williams (1886-1945) was a British theologian, playwright, novelist and poet. As a member of the ‘Inklings’ literary group at Oxford, his work supported a strong sense of narrative. For Williams, spiritual exchanges were an undercurrent to life, and his Christian fantasy writing, such as 'Descent into Hell' (1937), earned him many followers. This classic work is now being republished in a new modern edition with a specially commissioned introductory biography.

The intertwined Prescott, Manzone, and Grant clans have made their marks on the world against the backdrop of the turbulent and astounding 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s. As the mid-1990s roll on into an exciting new millennium, evil forces rise from the ashes of the past and inexplicably threaten these families peaceful, productive lives in San Francisco. The tight-knit group searches for answers to the growing peril: perpetrators who are driven by lethal rage and savage depravity and for whom there is neither redemption nor a show of mercy toward the people they hope to demolish. Not only do they seek to destroy the families but their friends as well with grotesquely malevolent intent. Through passion, strength, and utter fearlessness, family members battle back to reclaim their lives and end the savage thirst for revenge of beings that could only be considered demons from hell. Will Norah, Adam, Zack, Trenton, Toni, and their next generations succeed? Or is the evil too smart, too immoral, and far too determined to be defeated?

Get to know God As the deer pants for the water brooks, so pants my soul for You, O God. —Psalm 42:1 Does this describe you? Has your thirst for more intimate contact with God caused you to reach for anything and everything that will bring you closer to Him? Do you want to know Him as a friend, like Moses did, or capture His heart, like David did? In The Anatomy of God, you’ll learn that God is not hiding from you. In fact, the Creator of all things desires more than anything to be seen, touched, and known by you! God is a Spirit, yet throughout Scripture, He describes Himself in anatomical terms and images we are familiar with. His eyes wink and squint. His mouth whispers, His smile radiates, and He inclines an attentive ear to our cries. God has hands, arms, and fingers that build, shape, give, protect, and deliver. His heart can be broken, and His nostrils flare when He is angry. His face reveals His glory and His favor. The Anatomy of God is an invitation to see God at work in us, for us, and through us. With appropriate humor and humility, Dr. Kenneth Ulmer introduces us to the Father as we seldom see Him—touchable, emotional, and accessible. Ulmer navigates the seemingly unfathomable depths of the person of God with a pastor’s care, a teacher’s skill, and a preacher’s passion, guiding us into deeper, more meaningful communion. This book is for every man or woman who desires to know God or to know Him better. It is for anyone who questions God’s closeness or doubts His concern. The Anatomy of God brings us closer to God by bringing God closer to us.
