Only one man can stop the most dangerous conspiracy ever designed in a shattering thriller about the end of secrets from the author of The Speed of Sound. After going on the run--for what he knows and has created--autistic Eddie Parks is back in Harmony House, the think tank that has been his sanctuary for sixteen years. With his miraculous invention, an "echo box" that excavates sounds from the past, Eddie achieved the only thing he wanted: to hear his late mother sing. But where Eddie sees good, others see infamy. Because no conversation ever held will be a secret again. For Bob Stenson, leader of the American Heritage Foundation, whoever controls the echo box controls the future. To seize the game-changing device, he has to get Eddie where he's most vulnerable: by kidnapping Dr. Skylar Drummond, the only person in the world Eddie trusts. But Stenson has underestimated his prey. Eddie has the power of echoes on his side. Now he must follow them--into the most dangerous places he's ever ventured--to save Skylar and the country.

Garner asks, amongst other things: what is the meaning of sound? How have fictional visions of VR shaped our expectations for present technology? How can VR sound hope to evoke the desired responses for such an infinitely heterogeneous user base? This book if for those with an interest in sound and VR, who wish to learn more about the great complexities of the subject and discover the contemporary issues from which future VR will surely advance.

This collection of essays explores the literature of Italian immigrants in Canada and their children by focusing on the central role that themes of migration hold in their work. Addressing topics such as the oral roots of Canadian immigrant writing, the changing place of women in works of the Italian diaspora, and the persistent difficulties of translation, this work provides an international perspective on some of the most pressing questions in the study of literature today. In addition to Canadian works, the work of immigrant writers from Australia and other countries is also considered, producing nuanced observations of cultural differences and affinities.

Sonic Studies In Educational Foundations written by Walter S. Gershon and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-12-09 with Education categories.

Originally published as a special issue of Educational Studies, this volume demonstrates the ways in which sound considerations can significantly contribute to educational foundations. Regardless of their origin or interpretation, sounds are theoretically and practically foundational to educational experiences. As the means through which knowledges are passed from one person to another, sounds outline the fluid, porous boundaries of educational ecologies. This book draws out and expands upon the already-present sonic metaphors that exist at the center of philosophical and historical foundations of educational studies. Contributions demonstrate the ethical dimensions of this line of inquiry, emphasizing the need for education to offer both a right to speak and to be heard in order to take on a truly democratic character. By highlighting emerging attention to sound scholarship in education, contributors attend to and otherwise explore sound possibilities for educational theory, policy, and practice. This book will be of great interest to graduate and post graduate students; libraries, researchers and academics in the field of educational foundations, philosophy of education, education politics and sociology of education.

Echo written by Amit Pinchevski and has been published by MIT Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-05-10 with Social Science categories.

An exploration of echo not as simple repetition but as an agent of creative possibilities. In this volume in the MIT Press Essential Knowledge series, Amit Pinchevski proposes that echo is not simple repetition and the reproduction of sameness but an agent of change and a source of creation and creativity. Pinchevski views echo as a medium, connecting and mediating across and between disparate domains. He reminds us that the mythological Echo, sentenced by Juno to repeat the last words of others, found a way to make repetition expressive. So too does echo introduce variation into sameness, mediating between self and other, inside and outside, known and unknown, near and far. Echo has the potential to bring back something unexpected, either more or less than what was sent. Pinchevski distinguishes echo from the closely related but sometimes conflated reflection, reverberation, and resonance; considers echolalia as an active, reactive, and creative vocalic force, the launching pad of speech; and explores echo as a rhetorical device, steering between appropriation and response while always maintaining relation. He examines the trope of echo chamber and both destructive and constructive echoing; describes various echo techniques and how echo can serve practical purposes from echolocation in bats and submarines to architecture and sound recording; explores echo as a link to the past, both literally and metaphorically; and considers echo as medium using Marshall McLuhan’s tetrad.
