The Spirit-Empowered Leader Workbook was designed to help leaders establish a biblical understanding and experience of the Holy Spirit filled and empowered life for effective leadership. Jesus told his disciples: I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father." (John 14:10-12, NIV, italics added) An understanding of the nature, role, and empowering of the Holy Spirit is essential if we are to be like Jesus, do what he did, and do even "greater works" than he did by fulfilling the Great Commission through demonstrating and communicating the gospel of the kingdom to all nations. This is what we will attempt to do as we work through this workbook. Each of these workbooks is formatted using the IDEA approach to transformational learning. The goal of the IDEA approach is to facilitate the "gracious work" of God through his word and spirit to transform us "into his likeness with ever increasing glory..." (II Corinthians 3:18, NIV) Each chapter will begin with an Introduction (I) followed by Discovery (D), Explanation (E), and Application (A) sections. Each chapter can be worked through as a unit or in sequence as a whole with a variety of process options including individual, small group, and various course applications. The Spirit-Empowered Leader Workbook is designed as a stand-alone or a companion to other workbooks in The Leadership Development Series. Other workbooks in this series include The Bible-Centered Leader Workbook; The Discipleship and Mentoring Workbook; and a "best of" or introductory workbook for younger emerging leaders entitled The Discipleship and Leadership Workbook. Take your time and prayerfully and carefully read, study, discuss, apply, and evaluate your progress. Remember that becoming a spirit-empowered leader is not an objective as much as it is a process or lifestyle. It is not something we get, but something we become over time. Over the years we will be transformed by God and empowered to "be" about the Father's business (Luke 2:49).

The Discipleship and Mentoring Workbook is designed to help leaders establish a biblical understanding of discipleship and disciple-making (spiritual mentoring) for life and leadership. This workbook is part of The Leadership Development Series of workbooks designed to facilitate "transformational learning" for establishing a foundation that will stand the test of time and help us to meet the challenges of learning how to be "lovers in a dangerous time" (musician Bruce Cockburn). Jesus stated that, "God is spirit, and his worshippers [Disciples and Mentors] must worship in Spirit [Spirit-Empowered] and in truth [Bible-Centered]" John 4:24, NIV. From this passage I developed The Leadership Development Series that includes this workbook plus The Bible-Centered Leader Workbook; The Spirit-Empowered Leader Workbook; and The Discipleship and Leadership Workbook (that is a "best of" or introductory overview of the content in the other three workbooks in this series for younger emerging leaders). The Discipleship and Mentoring Workbook is designed as a stand-alone and/or companion to other workbooks in this series. Each of these workbooks is formatted using the IDEA approach to transformational learning. The goal of the IDEA approach is to facilitate the "gracious work" of God through his word and spirit to transform us "into his likeness with ever increasing glory..." Each chapter can be worked through as a unit or in sequence as a whole with a variety of process options including individual, small groups, and various course applications. Take your time and prayerfully and carefully read, study, discuss, apply, and evaluate your progress. Remember that becoming a disciple and mentor is not an objective as much as it is a process or lifestyle. We do not obtain these as much as we become them. Over the years, we will be transformed by God (discipleship) in order help others (spiritual mentoring) in their transformation process.

Spiritual Leadership in Action: The CEL Story is designed for thoughtful leaders working in the complexity and messiness of their daily organizational lives. It is a book first and foremost about people, about the ways they find purpose, creativity and meaning in their professional work; how they thrive in community and fulfill their deep desire to be of service to others against seemingly impossible odds and limitations. A study of how full human potential and creativity is released, how the spirit within, and without, can be experienced and manifested. It is also story of ordinary people achieving extraordinary results, individually and collectively; of people becoming more than they thought was possible; and having fun along the way. This is a practical book with reflections, legacy and “lessons learnt” to support and guide busy leaders who are looking for wisdom and to learn from the experiences and mistakes of others. Spiritual Leadership in Action: The CEL Story is the result of serious and rigorous academic research. It is a case study containing features, dilemmas and opportunities facing all leaders today. A leadership narrative of a professional community who learned to live and work together with respect and harmony. It is also the story of a CEO leader and the integration of her spiritual yearning and fulfillment manifested through her professional vocation and calling. In particular it explores how: • To create effective collaborative partnerships • To deliver outstanding value for money on limited resources in complex contexts • To develop excellent commercial practices within a public sector organization • To nurture the spirit, high energy and performance of everyone involved to ensure outstanding success on the triple bottom line This book challenges the reader to be bold, creative, reflective, trusting, even more allowing of their own spirit and leadership path, and to rise to even greater achievements; but most of all to fulfill their own deepest yearnings and potential and to become the very best of what they are meant to be, both as a leader and as a human being. An important feature in this book is that spirituality and religion are distinct, and that organizational spiritual leadership can be inclusive or exclusive of religious theory and practice. The Centre for Excellence in Leadership (CEL) serves as a role model for maximizing the triple bottom line through both personal and organizational spiritual leadership. CEL is a stellar example of an organization that embraced organizational spiritual leadership, the values of altruistic love, employee well-being, and sustainability while maintaining high levels of financial performance. Spiritual Leadership in Action: The CEL Story chronicles how, as CEO, Lynne Sedgmore led CEL through its spiritual journey, including several “Dark Nights of the Soul,” to a place of pre-eminence in the United Kingdom’s Learning and Skills sector.

You were born to lead. Now it's time to become a leader. Leaders may be found in boardrooms, but they may also be found in families, schools, and organizations of all kinds—anywhere people interact, nurture, create, or build. Contrary to popular opinion, leadership is not meant for an elite group of people who, by fate or accident, become leaders while everyone else is consigned to being a lifelong follower. After personally training thousands of leaders from around the world, best-selling author Dr. Myles Munroe reports that while every person possesses the potential of leadership, many do not understand how to cultivate the leadership nature and how to apply it to their lives. In The Spirit of Leadership, Dr. Munroe defines the unique attitudes that all effective leaders exhibit, explains how to eliminate hindrances to your leadership abilities, and helps you to fulfill your particular calling in life. "...a defining portrait of true and effective leadership. On these pages you will discover your purpose, your passion, and your potential to become the leader God has destined you to be." —Pastor John Hagee, Cornerstone Church "[Dr Myles Munroe's] wisdom is to the believer what a phone booth was to Superman! Step into every page and be charged!" —Bishop T. D. Jakes, The Potter's House of Dallas "The world is groaning in travail, waiting for the manifestation of those who will rise up as followers of God and leaders of men.... Dr. Myles Munroe will give you invaluable insight in your quest to discover and develop the spirit of a leader." —Pastor Rod Parsley, World Harvest Church "Are you aware that God has ordained you to be a leader? In The Spirit of Leadership, Dr. Myles Munroe gives us the key to find the hidden leader within ourselves. I highly recommend this inspired book to all." —Paul F. Crouch, Trinity Broadcasting Network "In The Spirit of Leadership, Dr. Myles Munroe taps into the core truths of authentic, successful leadership. Through decades of study and careful observation, Dr. Munroe has identified the key—the missing ingredient that activates the potential to lead found within every human being." —Marilyn Hickey, Marilyn Hickey Ministries
