A fantasy adventure well ahead of its time, The Unpredictable Adventure satirises contemporary cultural norms and demonstrates the hazards awaiting a woman who dares to think and act in defiance of the gender roles assigned her. Considered too risque and therefore banned by the New York Public Library, the Los Angeles Times described it as reminiscent of Pilgrim's Progress but more instructive than most manuals about what a young girl ought to know.

What could a book titled The Art of Unpredictability be about? This is probably why you're skimming through the description to decide if this is worth the time, or if it will end up as another Amazon purchase you'll leave on a bookshelf to collect dust. Honestly, this book is more about balance than anything. You see, we all need an equal balance of routine and surprise in our lives. Predictability and unpredictability. Each person's balance is different. Some people value more chaos, and others value more structure. Where that line is drawn is up to you. This book highlights the unpredictable side. Because I think most people tend to steer toward structure and aim to control their life when they really should let go and just say "yes" more often. That guy who has excuses all the time? I hate that guy. I've collected the best moments and challenges of Las Vegas adventures, Coldplay concerts, and major car crashes to reveal how you can develop my strongest personality trait-being completely unpredictable. I hope that as you venture through each chapter's stories, you'll be more inspired to take on each day as if it were a videogame. You get to create your own rules, the boundaries are limited only by your creativity, and the best part is that anything is possible... I know, you've heard that before. But how many people do you know who actively prove it?

Rivers Of Light written by Miriam Kalman Friedman and has been published by Syracuse University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-04-04 with Social Science categories.

Growing up in a conservative, middle-class family in Texas, Claire Myers Owens sought adventure and freedom at an early age. At twenty years old, she left home and quickly found a community of like-minded free spirits and intellectuals in New York’s Greenwich Village. There Owens wrote novels and short stories, including the controversial novel The Unpredictable Adventure: A Comedy of Woman’s Independence, which was banned by the New York Public Library for its "risqué" content. Drawn to ideals of selfactualization and creative freedom, Owens became a key figure in the Human Potential Movement along with founder Abraham Maslow and Aldous Huxley, and became an ardent follower of Carl Jung. In her later years, Owens devoted her life to the practice of Zen Buddhism, moving to Rochester, NY, where she joined the Zen Center and studied under Roshi Philip Kapleau. She published her final book, Zen and the Lady, at the age of eighty-three. Friedman’s rediscovery of Owens brings well-deserved attention to her little known yet extraordinary life and passionate spirit. Drawing upon autobiographies, letters, journals, and novels, Friedman chronicles Owens’s robust intellect and her tumultuous private life and, along the way, shows readers what makes her story significant. With very few role models in the early twentieth century, Owens blazed her own path of independence and enlightenment.

Traveling for Terry Bryant is an unpredictable adventure...or misadventure rather. The business of training people on how to be safe in their work environment has taken him near and far. He has run the gamut in his attitude from being angry about the randomness of traveling to savoring the variety. At some point, among the urine-soaked mattresses, two to be exact, and unexpected naked ladies in his room, Terry found a way to experience joy in the unpredictable nature of air travel and budget motels. In addition, Terry has survived a knife fight, been detained at a military base, and managed to navigate an uncomfortable confrontation with a couple of booze-soaked honeymooners. Terry's stories both delight and empower. From the first chapter, you will gain a new, positive perspective from a man who turns the strife of life into a wild and exciting adventure. Do not miss these, and many more fun and hilarious stories courtesy of the simple man from rural Arkansas.

Chance Literature And Culture In Early Modern France written by John D. Lyons and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-04-08 with Literary Criticism categories.

In the Renaissance and early modern periods, there were lively controversies over why things happen. Central to these debates was the troubling idea that things could simply happen by chance. In France, a major terrain of this intellectual debate, the chance hypothesis engaged writers coming from many different horizons: the ancient philosophies of Epicurus, the Stoa, and Aristotle, the renewed reading of the Bible in the wake of the Reformation, a fresh emphasis on direct, empirical observation of nature and society, the revival of dramatic tragedy with its paradoxical theme of the misfortunes that befall relatively good people, and growing introspective awareness of the somewhat arbitrary quality of consciousness itself. This volume is the first in English to offer a broad cultural and literary view of the field of chance in this period. The essays, by a distinguished team of scholars from the U.S., Britain, and France, cluster around four problems: Providence in Question, Aesthetics and Poetics of Chance, Law and Ethics, and Chance and its Remedies. Convincing and authoritative, this collection articulates a new and rich perspective on the culture of sixteenth- and seventeenth-century France.
