How many problems at work arise from the way in which jobs are set up? Either people don't have a clear understanding of their duties and responsibilities, spending time and energy disentangling them from those of their co-workers or they are hemmed in by job specifications that allow no room for movement and initiative. An alternative system is needed, where jobs can grow and develop: where communication about the work can flow up as easily as down. Dr Belbin describes a radical approach incorporating colour-coding and information technology derived from experiments now being undertaken in three countries. Workset is a new means of delivering greater efficiency in a dynamic process that equally involves managers and jobholders. Dr R. Meredith Belbin, regarded as the father of team-role theory for his widely-read Management Teams: Why they succeed or fail and its successor Team Roles at Work, obtained his first and higher degree at Cambridge University. Later, in a research, lecturing or consulting capacity, he has visited and worked in many countries. In 1988 he founded Belbin Associates which produces Interplace, a computer-based Human Resource Management System, now used world-wide.

The tools of business are dynamic-capital, people, markets and ideas-all are living entities in a constant state of flux. To take these tools-to work with them and reorganize them in new and different ways to produce a positive effect in your life and your organization-is the essence of the creative process. How to get there? This work will provide a working map for the journey toward your own potential. "A lucid gateway to Joseph Campbell's monomyth of the hero's journey, particularly as it can be applied to one's career. Ginger Grant is an excellent interpreter of this invaluable but sometimes rather difficult body of work. I recommend her highly." -William Gibson, author of Pattern Recognition "A most remarkable technique born of a most remarkable vision! This book grounds the world of business management and corporate organization in a mythological psychology. It demonstrates practically a way to give creativity and imagination to the real life of the workplace. A unique and important contribution to the field!" -David L. Miller, PhD., Watson Ledden Professor Emeritus, Syracuse University "Ginger Grant's creative reimagining of the work place promises any who will consider her mythic approach to "doing business" a more flexible and humane corridor out of the stilted and calcified set of rules and formats that govern its behavior. Her leading impulse, that the corporate ethos will change dramatically only when it understands and accepts its own functioning mythology, promises to reanimate the place where we spend the best energies of our lives." -Dennis Patrick Slattery, Core Faculty, Pacifica Graduate Institute and author of Grace in the Desert and The Wounded Body

What's stopping you from doing the best work of your life? People are sick of the old ways of doing business. Despite the enthusiasm that surrounded the emergence of a hybrid working world, it still takes for ever to get anything done. Meetings and emails are almost belligerently incessant. Bureaucracy and hierarchy continue to stifle creativity and talent. So - after literal decades of management theory, as well as multiple shifts in the technological landscape - why can't we do better? Aaron Dignan is an expert in modernizing workplaces. He has built a career teaching top-level companies how to change to suit their workforce better and, in doing so, how to foster genuine innovation, loyalty and growth. In Brave New Work, he uses stories and experiences gathered from that career to lay out a fearless manifesto for a new type of work. This book will show you how to transform your team, department or business from the inside out, making work more adaptable, enjoyable and human. It's packed with tactics and tips for updating your company's operating system: the assumptions so deeply embedded within your organization that you don't even know you're being crippled by them. Learn how to reignite passion and energy throughout your organization, how to retain and attract a dedicated and happy workforce, and, ultimately, how to build a company that runs itself.
