This work is an autobiography of a different kind. There is no chronology. It is a reminiscence in the memory of 104 years, who writes ashe remembers in order to keep young! Yet! I imagine that many an elderly person, even others, may find something of interest. There is history to a degree and occasionally a philosophy of ideas.I think it is important for everyone to develop a hobby, something of interest to keep occupied in retirement, to dispel boredom, and as aches and pains debilitate, will discover new methods to remain independent of the natural goodwill of family and friends, for they mean well, but do not realise, in some instances they are contributing to frustration.A hobby takes many forms. When health and strength permit, it lies in physical pursuits. In others, it lies in catching up on the things missed when life and time demand total occupation.No matter what the hobby might be, it leads to mental and physical stimulation. Activity of mind and thought relate to new generations, prevent boredom and above all abandonment.Keeping young is an aspiration. It will never be realised with an elixir of imaginative science. It holds no beauty when the motive is an artificial quality of life. The answer is well summarised by the philosopher Diotima, inscribed on sculpture in the University of Western Australia, and reads:"Then at last man will behold beauty with the eye of the mind and will be able to bring forth not mere images of what is good for man but realities. Would that be an ignoble life Socrates?" With such thoughts this writer has been writing books, some related to his discipline in Semitics, and others to his community pursuits.Writing is my first hobby!
