The poet Persimmon Gaunt and the thief Imago Bone had sought only to retire from adventuring and start a family, but they never reckoned on their baby becoming the chosen vessel of the mystical energies of a distant Eastern land. With their son Innocence hunted by various factions hoping to use him as a tool, they kept him safe at the cost of trapping him in a pocket dimension of accelerated time. Now free, the thirteen-year-old Innocence has rejected his parents and his "destiny" and has made dangerous friends in a barbaric Western land of dragon-prowed ships and rugged fjords. Desperately, Gaunt and Bone seek to track him down, along with their companion Snow Pine and her daughter A-Girl-Is-A-Joy, who was once trapped with Innocence too. But as the nomadic Karvaks and their war-balloons strike west, and a troll-king spins his webs, and Joy is herself chosen by the spirit of the very land Innocence has fled to, Gaunt and Bone find themselves at the heart of a vast struggle -- and their own son is emerging from that conflict as a force of evil. To save him and everything they know, they turn to a dangerous magical book, The Chart of Tomorrows, that reveals pathways through time. Upon the treacherous seas of history, Gaunt and Bone must face the darkness in each other’s pasts, in order to rescue their future. From the Trade Paperback edition.

By the year 2050, Earth's population will double. If we continue with current farming practices, vast amounts of wilderness will be lost, millions of birds and billions of insects will die, and the public will lose billions of dollars as a consequence of environmental degradation. Clearly, there must be a better way to meet the need for increased food production. Written as part memoir, part instruction, and part contemplation, Tomorrow's Table argues that a judicious blend of two important strands of agriculture--genetic engineering and organic farming--is key to helping feed the world's growing population in an ecologically balanced manner. Pamela Ronald, a geneticist, and her husband, Raoul Adamchak, an organic farmer, take the reader inside their lives for roughly a year, allowing us to look over their shoulders so that we can see what geneticists and organic farmers actually do. The reader sees the problems that farmers face, trying to provide larger yields without resorting to expensive or environmentally hazardous chemicals, a problem that will loom larger and larger as the century progresses. They learn how organic farmers and geneticists address these problems. This book is for consumers, farmers, and policy decision makers who want to make food choices and policy that will support ecologically responsible farming practices. It is also for anyone who wants accurate information about organic farming, genetic engineering, and their potential impacts on human health and the environment.

What Would You Risk for Love When the World Falls Apart? When Walter, a gentle schoolteacher from northern England, is captured in occupied France, he is thrust into the brutal machinery of Nazi imprisonment. Stripped of freedom and cut off from the woman he loves, he must navigate a harrowing labyrinth of POW camps, each more dehumanising than the last. But even in the darkest corners of Europe, a quiet fire burns within him—the desperate hope of return. Take just five minutes to read the free sample —Walter’s first steps into the unknown will grip you, and his voice will stay with you. For Your Tomorrows is a haunting, unforgettable journey into the heart of war, captivity—and the unbreakable bond between two souls torn apart by history. This gripping tale of survival reveals not only the external horrors of war but the private wars waged inside the human heart. Walter’s odyssey is one of grit and grace, endurance and defiance, as he clings to love like a lifeline through humiliation, hunger, and fleeting glimpses of humanity. With powerful storytelling and emotional depth, For Your Tomorrows dares to ask: when everything is taken from you, what remains? It’s more than a war story—it’s a tribute to the human spirit, a testament to how love can outlast barbed wire, bullets, and borders. This is not just Walter’s story. It’s a story for anyone who has ever hoped, who has ever fought for tomorrow.

Can you imagine what today’s technology would have looked like in the Victorian Era? That’s the world Steampunk envisions: a mad-inventor collection of 21st Century-inspired contraptions powered by stream and driven by gears. It’s more than just a whimsical idea. In the past few years, the Steampunk genre has captivated makers, hackers, artists, designers, writers, and others throughout the world. In this fascinating book, futurist Brian David Johnson and cultural historian James Carrott offer insights into what Steampunk’s alternative history says about our own world and its technological future. Interviews with experts such as William Gibson, Cory Doctorow, Bruce Sterling, James Gleick, and Margaret Atwood explore how this vision of stylish craftsmen making fantastic and beautiful hand-tooled gadgets has become a cultural movement—and perhaps an important countercultural moment. Steampunk is everywhere—as gadget prototypes at Maker Faire, novels and comic books, paintings and photography, sculptures, fashion design, and music. Discover how this elaborate view of a future that never existed can help us look forward.

The Archivist of Lost Tomorrows A Novella by Parth Savaliya In a city where time has shattered and memory decays like dust, one man is tasked with preserving the remnants of realities that no longer exist. Elias Veil is an Archivist—silent, detached, and devoted to cataloging echoes of forgotten worlds in the fractured metropolis of Aethel. But when he begins to encounter anomalies—flickering visions of a mysterious woman named Lyra who appears across divergent timelines—everything he knows about time, memory, and fate begins to unravel. Aethel is a city stitched together by broken eras—Victorian lampposts stand beside flickering chrome towers, and entire districts vanish overnight. As Elias digs deeper into the anomaly, he is pulled into a web of temporal paradoxes, emotional reckonings, and the haunting realization that his role as a passive observer may be contributing to the collapse of reality itself. Torn between the rigid rules of the Archivist Protocols and the impossible pull of Lyra, Elias must decide whether to continue preserving the past or risk everything to rewrite the future. The Archivist of Lost Tomorrows is a lyrical, mind-bending journey through time’s ruins—where love defies causality, choices echo across fractured timelines, and even memory has a price. Perfect for fans of Ted Chiang, Blake Crouch, and Emily St. John Mandel.
