Saint James School is far more than one of the oldest boarding schools in the United States. The school was founded in 1842 in western Maryland as the second iteration of the national scholastic vision of William Augustus Muhlenberg (1796–1877) who, with his principal disciples in five states, established some of the best schools in American history. These schools pursued academic excellence without sacrificing the Christian faith. Saint James, St. Paul’s (Concord, NH), St. Mark’s (Southborough, MA), and many other schools set a national tone in the preparation of young men for college and for life. Their objective was to educate the whole person to excellence and they largely succeeded. Saint James School of Maryland: 175 Years tells the story of the school by focusing on the long tenures of five headmasters.

Today interviews proliferate everywhere: in newspapers, on television, and in anthologies; as a method they are a major tool of medicine, the law, the social sciences, oral history projects, and journalism; and in the book trade interviews with authors are a major promotional device. We live in an 'interview society'. How did this happen? What is it about the interview form that we find so appealing and horrifying? Are we all just gossips or is there something more to it? What are the implications of our reliance on this bizarre dynamic for publicity, subjectivity, and democracy? Literature and the Rise of the Interview addresses these questions from the perspective of literary culture. The book traces the ways in which the interview form has been conceived and deployed by writers, and interviewing has been understood as a literary-critical practice. It excavates what we might call a 'poetics' of the interview form and practice. In so doing it covers 150 years and four continents. It includes a diverse rostrum of well-known writers, such as Henry James, T. S. Eliot, Ezra Pound, Djuna Barnes, William Burroughs, Philip Roth, J. M. Coetzee and Toni Morrison, while reintroducing some individuals that history has forgotten, such as Betty Ross, 'Queen of Interviewers', and Julian Hawthorne, Nathaniel's profligate son. Together these stories expose the interview's position in the literary imagination and consider what this might tell us about conceptions of literature, authorship, and reading communities in modernity.

Will a deep appreciation of wisdom lead to more happiness, flourishing, and success in life? Why is America increasingly plagued by tribalism, elitism, materialism, and ME-ism? What do philosophy, psychology, and personal growth have to say about wisdom? Are the Bible and other religious texts legitimate and useful sources of human wisdom? Though powerful and beautiful, philosophy has typically discouraged many readers who find it difficult, abstract, and boring. Moreover, modern psychology and age-old personal growth principles are given a bad name by many social media personalities who oversimplify them in an effort to make money. What is wisdom, how can it help me, and is this book authentic, reliable and useful ? Four-time author Jason Merchey believes wisdom can be developed and acquired, and improving your understanding of wisdom will certainly lead to living a better life! Wisdom is one of humankind's oldest and most prized virtues, yet it is not much respected nowadays. . . This new book has the potential to assist readers to live a life that harnesses the power of philosophy, critical thinking, and applied psychology. These secular sources of wisdom are not as complicated as they may seem, and indeed are road maps to a better life. Greater wisdom leads to improved personal growth, happiness, and success. Wisdom is not simple or plug-and-play, but it will yield its secrets to those who love it. In fact, the word philosophy is Greek for “the love of wisdom.” Wisdom is a comprehensive, transparent exploration of ancient and intriguing concepts combined with critical thinking, compassion, and other aspects of wisdom. Brimming with examples of psychological principles, careful analysis, and insightful quotes from many cultures and civilizations, it provides a basis for authentic intellectual, emotional, spiritual and moral growth. The author deftly combines digestible psychological research findings, compelling personal stories, and useful quotations about wisdom. Compostela (Tesseracts Twenty) is an anthology of hard and soft science fiction stories that best represent a futuristic view of the sciences and how humanity might be affected (for better or worse) by a reliance in all things technological. The stories contained with in the pages of Compostela are a refelction of the world we live in today; where science produces both wonders and horrors; and will leave us with a future that undoubtedly will contain both. Journeys to the stars may be exhilarating and mind-expanding, but they can also be dangerous or even tragic. SF has always reflected that wide range of possibilities. Compostela (Tesseracts Twenty) features works by Canadian visionaries: Alan Bao, John Bell, Chantal Boudreau, Leslie Brown, Tanya Bryan, J. R. Campbell, Eric Choi, David Clink, Paulo da Costa, Miki Dare, Robert Dawson, Linda DeMeulemeester, Steve Fahnestalk, Jacob Fletcher, Catherine Girczyc, R. Gregory, Mary-Jean Harris, Geoffrey Hart, Michaela Hiebert, Matthew Hughes, Guy Immega, Garnet Johnson-Koehn, Michael Johnstone, Cate McBride, Lisa Ann McLean, Rati Mehrotra, Derryl Murphy, Brent Nichols, Susan Pieters, Alexandra Renwick, Rhea Rose, Robert J. Sawyer, Thea van Diepen, Nancy S. M. Waldman. About the title of this anthology: For more than 1,000 years, Santiago de Compostela (Compostela means “field of stars”) has attracted pilgrims to walk to the cathedral that holds St. James the apostle's relics. The stories in this anthology in their own way tell the tale of futuristic travelers who journey into the dark outer (or inner) reaches of space, searching for their own connections to the past, present and future relics of their time.
