Will a deep appreciation of wisdom lead to more happiness, flourishing, and success in life? Why is America increasingly plagued by tribalism, elitism, materialism, and ME-ism? What do philosophy, psychology, and personal growth have to say about wisdom? Are the Bible and other religious texts legitimate and useful sources of human wisdom? Though powerful and beautiful, philosophy has typically discouraged many readers who find it difficult, abstract, and boring. Moreover, modern psychology and age-old personal growth principles are given a bad name by many social media personalities who oversimplify them in an effort to make money. What is wisdom, how can it help me, and is this book authentic, reliable and useful ? Four-time author Jason Merchey believes wisdom can be developed and acquired, and improving your understanding of wisdom will certainly lead to living a better life! Wisdom is one of humankind's oldest and most prized virtues, yet it is not much respected nowadays. . . This new book has the potential to assist readers to live a life that harnesses the power of philosophy, critical thinking, and applied psychology. These secular sources of wisdom are not as complicated as they may seem, and indeed are road maps to a better life. Greater wisdom leads to improved personal growth, happiness, and success. Wisdom is not simple or plug-and-play, but it will yield its secrets to those who love it. In fact, the word philosophy is Greek for “the love of wisdom.” Wisdom is a comprehensive, transparent exploration of ancient and intriguing concepts combined with critical thinking, compassion, and other aspects of wisdom. Brimming with examples of psychological principles, careful analysis, and insightful quotes from many cultures and civilizations, it provides a basis for authentic intellectual, emotional, spiritual and moral growth. The author deftly combines digestible psychological research findings, compelling personal stories, and useful quotations about wisdom. Anyone aiming to build a life of value—one that yields purpose and happiness—should consider wisdom to be their basis. Wisdom has been one of humanity's highest aspirations for millennia. Jason Merchey has dealt with mental illness most of his life, but also earned a master's degree in clinical psychology and trained as a psychotherapist. No stranger to “the big questions” and the difficulty of life, he has studied wisdom, values and virtues for twenty years. In addition to personal benefits, this book sheds light on some of America’s significant social problems. The great philosopher Socrates himself knew that ancient Athens, Greece was in serious trouble. If we were all wiser and we had more enlightened and humane priorities, many of the problems that mark communities and nations would give way to more love, fellowship, and prosperity. This deep and eclectic book is full of ideas and insights that will assist you to: * Discover and prioritize wisdom in your personal life and relationships * Achieve greater fulfillment, happiness and self-confidence * Bring about true success based on self-knowledge and values * Make a positive difference in your community—and the world as a whole One cannot buy wisdom per se, but investing in this affordable book provides a refreshing opportunity for self-improvement and intellectual growth. It has the potential to assist you to make wisdom your greatest strength!

Society everywhere places a high value on good character. To possess virtues is better than gold- Akan Maxim. This means virtue is the primary aim of moral instruction and forms the foundation of a practical moral life. Just as the strength of a building is determined by its foundation; the quality of a persons achievement in life is also determined the quality of his personal character. The decline or fall of a nation begins in its homes. This is because the glory of a nation rests on the foundation of the family unit. No great gift on earth can ever cover up for a person who lives his/her life on a faulty foundation. This book, What You Cant Live Without- The Cardinal Virtues prove the standards on which one can build a rocky foundation through the cardinal virtues of wisdom, courage, Justice and Self- Control.

The Ethics Of Confucius And Aristotle written by Jiyuan Yu and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-05-24 with Philosophy categories.

As a comparative study of the virtue ethics of Aristotle and Confucius, this book explores how they each reflect upon human good and virtue out of their respective cultural assumptions, conceptual frameworks, and philosophical perspectives. It does not simply take one side as a framework to understand the other; rather, it takes them as mirrors for each other and seeks to develop new readings and perspectives of both ethics that would be unattainable if each were studied on its own.

Difficult Virtues written by Howard J. Curzer and has been published by Taylor & Francis this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2024-03-07 with Philosophy categories.

In this book, Howard J. Curzer describes eight virtues that have proven problematic to virtue ethicists. Integrity has been the subject of wildly different accounts. Open-mindedness and forgiveness are described in ways that many endorse, but few seek to practice. Accounts of tolerance and civility generally fit only the privileged. Finally, good timing, ambition, and creativity have attracted almost no attention at all. Curzer offers novel, plausible accounts of all of these eight difficult virtues, and demonstrates that they possess the standard features of Aristotelian virtues (for example, conformity to the Doctrine of the Mean). This enlarges the scope of Aristotelian virtue ethics by enabling it to cover eight additional spheres of human life. Using these difficult virtues as springboards and extrapolating from some of Aristotle’s remarks, Curzer codifies some standard features of Aristotelian virtues, and speculatively suggests additional features to enhance the descriptive and prescriptive power of Aristotelian virtue ethics. Thus, Curzer adds to the standard list of Aristotelian virtues and to the standard list of features that make virtues Aristotelian. Each difficult virtue is different, but certain themes thread through all of them: self-construction, social critique, and significant creation. Curzer’s accounts of these virtues illuminate the ways people forge their own identities, struggle to acquire virtue despite disadvantage, and produce and appreciate novelty.

Character Virtue Theories And The Vices written by Christine McKinnon and has been published by Broadview Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1999-08-26 with Philosophy categories.

This book argues that the question posed by virtue theories, namely, “what kind of person should I be?” provides a more promising approach to moral questions than do either deontological or consequentialist moral theories where the concern is with what actions are morally required or permissible. It does so both by arguing that there are firmer theoretical foundations for virtue theories, and by persuasively suggesting the superiority of virtue theories over deontological and consquentialist theories on the question of explaining morally bad behavior. Virtue theories can give a richer account by appealing to the kinds of dispositions that make certain bad choices appear attractive. This richer account also exposes a further advantage of virtue theories: they provide the best kinds of motivations for agents to become better persons.
