Two sisters inherit the family home and go back to living the quiet life in Trundle, an imaginary country town on the coast of NSW, Australia. Both Marie and Ronnie have been hurt by life, but their hopeful new start soon deteriorates into antagonism. Conflict is fanned by the arrival of new neighbours; the Lal family, whose new house overshadows their home and disturbs their peace. When Mr Lals wife becomes ill and dies, he evolves a grandiose plan to build a monument in her honour. His Taj will be a tribute to his culture and a memorial to his own struggle as a migrant and outsider. His search for land takes him to Pelican: a coastal commune on the outskirts of town. Maries past involved a scandal at this commune. Decades on, she wants to make amends, renewing contact with long-term residents who are now trying to redefine their purpose. First Marie and then her sister become entangled in the communes way of life, uncovering facts and facing needs that neither knew about themselves. In Trundle, human behaviour is at its best and worst. Unexpected kindness and the rebirth of love counteract the crooked deals, racism, perversion and violence which show that small-town life is anything but uneventful.

AUTHOR’S MESSAGE TO READERS. No matter what our perception is in relation to the subject of war and peace in our modern times, we have an inherent obligation to inculcate a spirit of lucidity and responsibility to reject erratic and ferment principles of politics that may jeopardize our determination to make our world a peaceful place. What is required is that we open up to the truth of the past and inculcate the good principles of politics into our contemporary culture of peace. The rethinking of ancient philosophy of peace is to reanimate us once again with the wisdom of the past in our search today for order and tranquility (tranquillitas ordinis). The philosophy of peace of the ancient times is not a monolith, for sure we can detect minor deficiencies and utopian elements in it, nevertheless its profundity and uniqueness offers those who study it something exceptional, distinctive, and pure, that has stood the test of time and all forms of cultural alterations over the centuries. Ancient philosophy has introduced us to the basic truth thus; peace is inner repose and outer harmony, and the person is at peace when he is not anguished inwardly by conflicting desires whilst living in harmony with others. Ancient philosophy affirms that men are intelligent and willing beings and are naturally called to build peace in their lives and in the society, this is true because any man who has examined history and human nature will agree with me that there is no such thing as a human heart that does not crave for peace and happiness. With a good modus operandi and determination we can build sound politics and social organization of peace, because peace is the only thing that can hold the human family together.

Born and raised in a stark, coastal village on the shore of the Ice-Rimmed Sea, Bera is the daughter of a Valla, the Vikings’ most powerful seers. But her mother died when she was young, leaving Bera alone with her gift, unable to control her feckless twin spirit or understand her visions of the future. When this inability leads to the death of her childhood friend at the hands of a rival clan, Bera vows revenge. And learning that her father has sold her into marriage with the murderous enemy’s chieftain, she is presented with an opportunity even sooner than she had hoped... As her powers grow stronger, her visions of looming disaster become more and more ominous until she is faced with the ultimate choice: will she exact vengeance? Or can she lead her people to safety before it’s too late?

Lifestyle Migration and Residential Tourism represent a major trend in individualized societies worldwide, which is attracting a rapidly growing interest from the academic community. The book approaches the topic from a multidisciplinary and international perspective, unifying different branches of research, such as lifestyle migration, amenity migration, retirement migration, and second home tourism. By covering a variety of regions and landscapes such as mountain and coastal areas, rural and inland communities this volume productively engages with the formal and analytical variations of the phenomenon resulting in an enriching debate at the intersection of different areas of research. Amongst others, topics like political contest and civic participation of lifestyle migrants, their impacts on local communities, social tensions and inequalities induced by the phenomenon, as well as modes of transnational living, home and belonging will be thoroughly explored. This thought provoking volume will provide deep analytical and conceptual insights into the contested geographies of lifestyle migration and further knowledge into the spatial, social and political consequences of leisure-oriented mobilities. It will be valuable reading for students, researchers and academics from a plethora of academic disciplines.

Personhood In The Age Of Biolegality written by Marc de Leeuw and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-11-18 with Social Science categories.

This volume showcases emerging interdisciplinary scholarship that captures the complex ways in which biological knowledge is testing the nature and structure of legal personhood. Key questions include: What do the new biosciences do to our social, cultural, and legal conceptions of personhood? How does our legal apparatus incorporate new legitimations from the emerging biosciences into its knowledge system? And what kind of ethical, socio-political, and scientific consequences are attached to the establishment of such new legalities? The book examines these problems by looking at materialities, the posthuman, and the relational in the (un)making of legalities. Themes and topics include postgenomic research, gene editing, neuroscience, epigenetics, precision medicine, regenerative medicine, reproductive technologies, border technologies, and theoretical debates in legal theory on the relationship between persons, property, and rights.
