Das Tigrinya (Tegrenna) gehort zu den ethiosemitischen Sprachen und wird von ca. sieben Millionen Menschen in Athiopien und Eritrea gesprochen; durch Migrationsstrome ist das Tigrinya auch nach Westeuropa gelangt. Bisher gab es jedoch kein brauchbares Worterbuch, das Schulern und Studierenden die Integration hatte erleichtern konnen. Das Deutsch-Tigrinische Worterbuch von Zemicael Tecle u.a. fullt diese Lucke fur den deutschsprachigen Kulturraum und gibt gleichzeitig dem deutschen Muttersprachler ein Grundlagenwerk an die Hand. Das Worterbuch nimmt mit seinen uber 16.000 Eintragen die gangigen deutschen Begriffe inklusive ihrer wichtigsten Bedeutungsfelder auf. Den in alphabetischer Reihenfolge angeordneten deutschen Wortern inklusive zugehoriger grammatischer Kategorie (z.B. Substantiv, Verb, Adjektiv oder Konjunktion) folgt die tigrinische Entsprechung in fidal und in Umschrift, haufig erganzt durch Bedeutungsvarianten und Beispielphrasen. Ebenso aufgenommen sind auch Fremdworter wie "Chauffeur", "Chaussee", "Journal" oder "Ouverture", die zum Gemeingut deutscher Sprache zahlen. Eine Abkurzungsliste und eine Literaturliste zur tigrinischen Lexikographie runden den Band ab. Als Pionierwerk setzt das Worterbuch allerdings keinen Schlussstrich unter die deutsch-tigrinische Lexikographie, sondern fordert bewusst zu weiterer Bearbeitung und Korrektur auf.
