How has the most revolutionary innovation of our time - the World Wide Web - transformed our world? What does it mean to be a modern family when dinner table conversations take place over smartphone? How has the Web changed our concept of privacy if we now readily share valuable pieces of our personal lives with friends and corporations? Are our Facebook updates and our Twitter witterings inspiring revolution or are they just a symptom of our global narcissism? How has the Web changed our opinions of celebrity, when everyone can have a following or be a paparazzo? What has happened to our most intimate emotions, when love, sex and hate can be mediated by a computer? And what happens to our relationships, our work and our lives if we can't switch off? Social psychologist Aleks Krotoski has spent a decade untangling the effects of the Web on how we work, live and play. In this groundbreaking book, she uncovers how much humanity has - and hasn't - changed because of our increasingly co-dependent relationship with the computer. She tells the story of how the network has become woven into our lives, and what it means to be alive in the Age of the Internet.

Gego (1912-1994) pioneered a new direction in art with her innovative sculptures of the 1960s and 1970s. Born in Germany as Gertrud Goldschmidt, she fled the Nazi regime and moved to Caracas, Venezuela, where she absorbed modernist trends but ultimately forged her own artistic path. Exploring the concept of the line, space, and time, she linked pieces of metal to create weblike geometric forms, which she called drawings in space. These experiments culminated in Reticulárea, a massive netlike sculptural installation first presented at the Museo de Bellas Artes, Caracas, in 1969. This groundbreaking work had major repercussions in the art world and marked a turning point in Gego's career. Centered on the various iterations of this work and its artistic impact, this anthology brings together images as well as documentary materials and primary texts in English and Spanish by artists, writers, and Gego. Distributed for the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, and Fundación Gego

Web 25: Histories from the First 25 Years of the World Wide Web celebrates the 25th anniversary of the Web. Since the beginning of the 1990s, the Web has played an important role in the development of the Internet as well as in the development of most societies at large, from its early grey and blue webpages introducing the hyperlink for a wider public, to today's multifacted uses of the Web as an integrated part of our daily lives. This is the first book to look back at 25 years of Web evolution, and it tells some of the histories about how the Web was born and has developed. It takes the reader on an exciting time travel journey to learn more about the prehistory of the hyperlink, the birth of the Web, the spread of the early Web, and the Web's introduction to the general public in mainstream media. Furthermore, case studies of blogs, literature, and traditional media going online are presented alongside methodological reflections on how the past Web can be studied, as well as accounts of how one of the most important source types of our time is provided, namely the archived Web. Web 25: Histories from the First 25 Years of the World Wide Web is a must-read for anyone interested in how our online present has been shaped by the past.
