Wer das Vaterunser seinen Aussagen und seiner Intention nach verstehen will, muss es innerhalb der antiken Zusammenhänge betrachten, in denen es entstand, überliefert wurde und ein ums andere Mal ausgelegt worden ist. Beschränkt man sich auf die ältesten Quellen, sind dabei die drei frühchristlichen Schriften zu berücksichtigen, die das Gebet in je anderem Wortlaut anführen, ferner sein ursprünglicher Überlieferungszusammenhang sowie die für das entstehende Christentum maßgeblichen religionsgeschichtlichen Horizonte.Der vorliegende Band vereint demgemäß sechs Beiträge, die das Gebet in jeweils einem dieser Kontexte verorten: Jörg Frey untersucht das Vaterunser im Horizont antik-jüdischen Betens, Reinhard Feldmeier im Kontext der paganen Gebetsliteratur; Florian Wilk präsentiert es als Element der frühen Jesusüberlieferung, Peter von der Osten Sacken als Zugang zum Matthäusevangelium; Michael Wolter interpretiert es im Rahmen des Lukasevangeliums, Jürgen Wehnert im Duktus der Didache. Insgesamt ergeben die Beiträge ein ebenso facettenreiches wie im Kern kohärentes Gesamtbild vom Vaterunser in seinen antiken Kontexten.Der Band basiert auf einem Symposium anlässlich des 90.
