This book is the third volume in the Leadership Horizons series. This series, started by Jim Meindl, is devoted to new developments in theory and research on leadership within the context of continuing and emerging organizational issues. In this spirit, the present volume delves into implicit leadership theories (ILTs), and opens intriguing new avenues for research on ILTs, but does so while maintaining an eye on the past. For example, the book offers valuable historical perspectives from those who were "there" - Dov Eden and Uriel Leviatan share the inside scoop on the origination of the concept of ILTs, and Bob Lord traces the evolution of social-cognitive perspectives with respect to work on ILTs - while all authors raise interesting questions and offer important new directions to advance this work well into the future. It features a wide range of scholars and perspectives, and practical implications are implicit and explicit throughout the volume. The book offers a valuable resource for researchers, students, and practitioners interested in leadership and social cognition in the workplace.

Entrepreneurship Policy Theory And Practice written by Anders Lundstrom and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2005-09-21 with Business & Economics categories.

Entrepreneurship Policy: Theory and Practice is the first book to fully analyze the construction of entrepreneurship policy, a rapidly-evolving area of policy about which little is known. From a study and assessment of the practices of governments in thirteen countries in Europe, North America and the Asia-Pacific, this book fully describes the policy area and shares new tools and methods for better understanding and explaining the why and how of an entrepreneurship policy approach. Unlike other research in the field of entrepreneurship where implications from research findings are used to suggest what policy actions should be taken to increase the level of entrepreneurship in an economy, this study is based on what entrepreneurship policy actions are being taken. This is a unique book in the field which points to the way forward both for policymakers and for the research community in terms of thinking about entrepreneurship policy and the complex issues surrounding its development.

The Origin And Evolution Of New Businesses written by Amar V. Bhide and has been published by Oxford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2003-10-16 with Business & Economics categories.

What is this mysterious activity we call entrepreneurship? Does success require special traits and skills or just luck? Can large companies follow their example? What role does venture capital play? In a field dominated by anecdote and folklore, this landmark study integrates more than ten years of intensive research and modern theories of business and economics. The result is a comprehensive framework for understanding entrepreneurship that provides new and penetrating insights. Examining hundreds of successful ventures, the author finds that the typical business has humble, improvised origins. Well-planned start-ups, backed by substantial venture capital, are exceptional. Entrepreneurs like Bill Gates and Sam Walton initially pursue small, uncertain opportunities, without much capital, market research, or breakthrough technologies. Coping with ambiguity and surprises, face-to-face selling, and making do with second-tier employees is more important than foresight, deal-making, or recruiting top-notch teams. Transforming improvised start-ups into noteworthy enterprises requires a radical shift, from "opportunistic adaptation" in niche markets to the pursuit of ambitious strategies. This requires traits such as ambition and risk-taking that are initially unimportant. Mature corporations have to pursue entrepreneurial activity in a much more disciplined way. Companies like Intel and Merck focus their resources on large-scale initiatives that scrappy entrepreneurs cannot undertake. Their success requires carefully chosen bets, meticulous planning, and the smooth coordination of many employees rather than the talents of a driven few. This clearly and concisely written book is essential for anyone who wants to start a business, for the entrepreneur or executive who wants to grow a company, and for the scholar who wants to understand this crucial economic activity.

Falco Jaekel develops a reference architecture for cloud logistics systems. The reference architecture shows how to apply the principles and concepts of cloud computing (e.g. virtualization, service-orientation) to logistics system design and thus how to deliver certain physical logistics capabilities such as transport and storage with the essential cloud characteristics (e.g. on-demand, rapid elasticity, pay-per-use). Within certain scenarios, this innovative mode of delivery can reconcile logistics efficiency with effectiveness and thus may enable firms to achieve competitive advantage in dynamic environments.

In The Course Of Performance written by Bruno Nettl and has been published by University of Chicago Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1998-12-15 with Music categories.

In the Course of Performance is the first book in decades to illustrate and explain the practices and processes of musical improvisation. Improvisation, by its very nature, seems to resist interpretation or elucidation. This difficulty may account for the very few attempts scholars have made to provide a general guide to this elusive subject. With contributions by seventeen scholars and improvisers, In the Course of Performance offers a history of research on improvisation and an overview of the different approaches to the topic that can be used, ranging from cognitive study to detailed musical analysis. Such diverse genres as Italian lyrical singing, modal jazz, Indian classical music, Javanese gamelan, and African-American girls' singing games are examined. The most comprehensive guide to the understanding of musical improvisation available, In the Course of Performance will be indispensable to anyone attracted to this fascinating art. Contributors are Stephen Blum, Sau Y. Chan, Jody Cormack, Valerie Woodring Goertzen, Lawrence Gushee, Eve Harwood, Tullia Magrini, Peter Manuel, Ingrid Monson, Bruno Nettl, Jeff Pressing, Ali Jihad Racy, Ronald Riddle, Stephen Slawek, Chris Smith, R. "In the wake of the Nazi regime's policies, European Jewish cultural property was dispersed, dislocated, and destroyed. Books, manuscripts, and artworks were either taken by their fleeing owners and were transferred to different places worldwide, or they fell prey to systematic looting and destruction under German occupation. The volume illuminates the political and cultural implications of this displaced property by presenting essays with newly discovered archival material and illustrations"--
