Marisa RosadoHistoriadora

Solitude, wanderlust, a thirst for love, for life, and for self- knowledge spin themselves into insomnia and drive Maria Diaz, a twenty-six year old Math teacher from Miami into a search for answers, which takes her into her own brain during sleep. It is a magic world where her id, her libido, her muses, and her conscience come alive and reveal her inner self: her agnosticism; her disdain for her overextended virginity; her disillusionment with her career and the curse and blessing of growing up with two cultures in the U.S. But the human brain takes back what it gives. All memory of the night's proceedings is confiscated upon awakening, except for minimal token wisps of dreams. Even so, she manages the Promethean task of bringing to light her dark world of sleep. How she steals the night's forbidden treasures and thus finds balance in her life is her story. The author, born Luis Eduardo Alban in Ecuador, S.A. in 1938, came to Savannah, Georgia in 1952, a city which has been home since then. He received his A.B. and PhD in Economics from the University of Georgia. His professional life has been entirely in academe, teaching Economics, Statistics and Quantitative methods. Since his retirement in 2000 he has traveled extensively in Europe and South America and has pursued his love for languages and literature, publishing poetry in regional literary periodicals and a compilation of short stories about words. This is his first novel. Married for 46 years to JoAnn Cool from Kansas, they now divide their year between Georgia and Kansas. They have two children.

This Spanish-language anthology contains selections by 45 Latin-American authors. It is intended as a text for upper division Latin American literature survey courses. The anthology presumes a high level of linguistic command of Spanish, and it contains footnotes to allusions and cultural references, as well as words and phrases not found in standard bilingual dictionaries used in the US. Emphasis is on major 20th-century writers, while important works from colonial and 19th-century literature as also included. The diverse selections of Literature Hispanoamericana will enable students to have a more sustained exposure to major voices of Latin American literature than possible in anthologies built around fragments. By focusing on fewer authors but more significant selections from their writings, students will have a greater grasp of major canonical figures as well as emergent voices.

Drawing on the groundbreaking Spanish scholarship and editions of earlier generations and relying on research conducted in Spanish archives, this pioneering group of English-speaking scholars offers a new treatment of familiar material. The editors yoke together widely varying critical practices, including incisive New Critical readings and far-reaching explorations that draw on the most current European critical thought. In addition to these more strictly literary studies, there are interdisciplinary essays focusing on seventeenth- and twentieth-century reception and the social makeup of the comedia audience. The whole thus presents a balanced picture of the many ways in which the comedia can be viewed, and the contributors complement each other's work in often surprising ways, illuminating the same corpus from a number of perspectives.

Selected Writings Dario Ruben written by Ruben Dario and has been published by Penguin this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2005-12-06 with Fiction categories.

Born in Nicaragua, Rubén Darío is known as the consummate leader of the Modernista movement, an esthetic trend that swept the Americas from Mexico to Argentina at the end of the nineteenth century. Seeking a language and a style that would distinguish the newly emergent nations from the old imperial power of Spain, Darío’s writing offered a refreshingly new vision of the world—an artistic sensibility at once cosmopolitan and connected to the rhythms of nature. The first part of this collection presents Darío’s most significant poems in a bilingual format and organized thematically in the way Darío himself envisioned them. The second part is devoted to Darío’s prose, including short stories, fables, profiles, travel writing, reportage, opinion pieces, and letters. A sweeping biographical introduction by distinguished critic Ilan Stavans places Darío in historical and artistic context, not only in Latin America but in world literature. For more than seventy years, Penguin has been the leading publisher of classic literature in the English-speaking world. With more than 1,700 titles, Penguin Classics represents a global bookshelf of the best works throughout history and across genres and disciplines. Readers trust the series to provide authoritative texts enhanced by introductions and notes by distinguished scholars and contemporary authors, as well as up-to-date translations by award-winning translators.
