Voicing Relationships written by Leslie A. Baxter and has been published by SAGE this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011 with Language Arts & Disciplines categories.

Extending on her 1996 seminal and award-winning book on relational dialectics theory, Relating Dialogues and Dialectics (co-authored with Barbara Montgomery), author Leslie Baxter presents the 'next generation' of the theory: relational dialogics theory. This theory, and book, explores a greater nuanced understanding of the unity of opposites concept, presenting a more theoretically complex treatment of this and other key dialogic concepts. The text develops a rich palette of dialogic concepts useful in the study of communication and relationships and is centered around the following concepts: (1) relationships are profoundly situated process - voices are always embodied in a specific space and time; (2) relationships are constituted in communication - they are voiced through verbal and nonverbal communicative practices; (3) relationships come to mean through the interplay of multiple, differing discourses.

Bringing Relationships Into Voice Hearing written by Rob Allison and has been published by Taylor & Francis this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2025-06-30 with Psychology categories.

This book presents a novel, theoretically informed practical approach to voice hearing, which aims to help readers improve relational harmony, reduce distress related to voice hearing, and improve experiences of supportive approaches. This book presents a Tripartite Relationship Theory, which conceptualises experiences of voice hearing within voice hearer-voice practitioner (or other supporters) relationships. The first part of this book centres on theoretical aspects of the approach, emphasising voice hearers’ internal relational experiences with voices and their relational experiences with practitioners, set against a backdrop of mental healthcare, as a way of understanding voice hearing experiences. Shaped by this theoretical relational framework, the second part of this book provides readers with a practical application of how to support voice hearers to feel safe during times of distress, how to nurture helpful relationships, how to understand voice hearing experiences in relation to their life story, and how to “talk with” and “mark-make” with voices. This book will be accessible to voice hearers, practitioners, and supporters. It provides a framework for understanding the felt experience of voice hearing and how to influence positive change and better relationships with self and voices.

Voice Syncretism written by Nicklas N. Bahrt and has been published by Language Science Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021 with Language Arts & Disciplines categories.

This book provides a comprehensive typological account of voice syncretism, focusing on resemblance in formal verbal marking between two or more of the following seven voices: passives, antipassives, reflexives, reciprocals, anticausatives, causatives, and applicatives. It covers voice syncretism from both synchronic and diachronic perspectives, and has been structured in a manner that facilitates convenient access to information about specific patterns of voice syncretism, their distribution and development. The book is based on a survey of voice syncretism in 222 geographically and genealogically diverse languages, but also thoroughly revisits previous research on the phenomenon. Voice syncretism is approached systematically by establishing and exploring patterns of voice syncretism that can logically be posited for the seven voices of focus in the book: 21 simplex patterns when one considers two of the seven voices sharing the same marking (e.g. reflexive-reciprocal syncretism), and 99 complex patterns when one considers more than two of the voices sharing the same marking (e.g. reflexive-reciprocal-anticausative syncretism). In a similar vein, 42 paths of development can logically be posited if it is assumed that voice marking in each of the seven voices can potentially develop one of the other six voice functions (e.g. reflexive voice marking developing a reciprocal function). This approach enables the discussion of both voice syncretism that has received considerable attention in the literature (notably middle syncretism involving the reflexive, reciprocal, anticausative and/or passive voices) and voice syncretism that has received little or not treatment in the past (including seemingly contradictory patterns such as causative-anticausative and passive-antipassive syncretism). In the survey almost all simplex patterns are attested in addition to seventeen complex patterns. In terms of diachrony, evidence is presented and discussed for twenty paths of development. The book strives to highlight the variation found in voice syncretism across the world’s languages and encourage further research into the phenomenon.
