At the start of every web design project, the ongoing struggles reappear. We want to design highly usable and self-evident applications, but we also want to devise innovative, compelling, and exciting interactions that make waves in the market. Projects are more sophisticated than ever, but we have fewer resources with which to complete them. Requirements are fuzzy at best, but we’re expected to have everything done yesterday. What we need is a reuse strategy, coupled with a pathway to innovation. Patterns are part of the game. Components take us further. In Web Anatomy: Interaction Design Frameworks That Work, user experience experts Hoekman and Spool introduce “interaction design frameworks”, the third and final piece of what they call “The Reuse Trinity”, and resolve these issues once and for all. Frameworks are sets of design patterns and other elements that comprise entire systems, and in this game-changing book, Hoekman and Spool show you how to identify, document, share, use, and reap the benefits of frameworks. They also dive deep into several major frameworks to reveal how the psychology behind these standards leads not only to effective designs, but can also serve as the basis for cutting-edge innovations and superior user experiences. Web Anatomy delivers: A complete guide to using interaction design frameworks An examination of the psychology behind major frameworks A thorough look at how frameworks will change the way you work for the better Citing examples from both the successful and not-so-successful, the authors break down the elements that comprise several common interactive web systems, discuss implementation considerations, offer examples of innovations based on these standards, reveal how frameworks work hand in hand with patterns and components, and show you how to integrate frameworks into your process. Read Web Anatomy now. Benefit from it for years to come. Jared Spool is a world-renowned design researcher and the founder of UIE.com. Robert Hoekman, Jr. is a veteran user experience specialist and the author of Designing the Obvious and Designing the Moment.

Instant Anatomy presents anatomy and anatomical relationships in a simple, unique, schematic manner to aid the speedy understanding and retrieval of anatomical facts. It shows structures such as nerves and blood vessels in their entirety, unlike the partial, regional presentations given in most textbooks. Covering the major aspects of anatomy, each section presents the relevant structures in double page spreads, with clear, full-colour diagrams on the left and concise text for each structure on the right. This new fifth edition includes more surface anatomy such as new myotome maps, bones of the hands and feet, principles of movement at shoulder and hip and images to clarify the understanding of the inguinal region and the lesser sac of the stomach. Ideal for use alongside a core anatomy textbook, Instant Anatomy is the perfect quick reference guide for medical students, surgeons, radiologists and those in many other specialties. The companion website at www.instantanatomy.net with its podcasts and wide ranging multiple choice questions provide invaluable exam preparation.

MYOFASCIA 101: An illustrated guide to the myofascial system—how it works, how it supports the body, and its importance to any bodywork practice. An essential resource for deepening your massage therapy and physical therapy practice or treatment! The result of more than two decades of research and practice, The Endless Web presents in clear, readable language a comprehensive guide to understanding and working effectively with the myofascial system, the 'packing material' of the body. Myofascia is a flexible network of tissue that surrounds, cushions, and supports muscles, bones, and organs. It also acts as a riverbed containing the flow of interstitial fluid, and is a critical influence on the immune and hormonal systems. In daily life, this connective tissue is an underlying determinant of movement quality, mood, alertness, and general well-being. The Endless Web is a fully illustrated guide to understanding how myofascia works, its supportive role within the body’s anatomy, and how gentle manipulation of the myofascial tissue is central to lasting therapeutic intervention and how it can be integrated into any bodywork practice.

Anatomy is intrinsically a three-dimensional and visual discipline. Anatomical education is therefore primarily delivered using physical and digital three-dimensional visual approaches to support student understanding of anatomy, including human body donor specimens and technology-enhanced learning resources. The Trans-European Pedagogic Anatomy Research Group (TEPARG) was founded in 2003 to promote scholarly, research-informed, and evidence-based approaches to the design and implementation of anatomical education. TEPARG brings together enthusiastic anatomy teachers and pedagogic researchers from across Europe and beyond to share good practice and create new projects in support of anatomical education. The work presented in this volume demonstrates careful consideration by the authors of several key areas within the current complex landscape of international anatomical education. This volume is presented in two subthemes, with the first section concerning broad considerations of modern anatomy curricula in England, Scotland, Wales, and Austria, and the second section involving discussion of pedagogic innovations for the delivery of anatomical education to learners and to the wider public in Italy, Spain, Australia, and the United Kingdom. The work presented in this volume will have implications for anatomical educators and pedagogic researchers in the anatomical sciences who are seeking to develop their own anatomy curricula, and to implement effective, evidence-based, and research informed visualization strategies and innovations into their teaching.

This edition expands its reach to athletic training with two new chapters on stretching and strengthening exercises. This title includes additional digital media when purchased in print format. For this digital book edition, media content may not be included Companion DVD includes over one hour of video demonstrating all the major joint actions of the human body, with a voiceover explanation of the names of the motions, the planes in which motion occurs, and the axes around which motion occurs. Unique! A focus on the needs of massage therapists and bodyworkers makes it easier to apply kinesiology concepts to the practice of massage therapy. Unique! A complete bone atlas includes over 100 full-color photographs showing every bone in the human body. 1,200 full-color illustrations help you understand concepts relating to the bones of the human body, joints of the human body, and muscle function parts. A logical, easy-to-reference format moves from basics (like parts of the body) to more difficult topics (such as microphysiology). Six chapters on joints cover structure, function, and terminology, with specific illustrations on each joint in the human body: joints of the axial body, joints of the upper extremity, and joints of the lower extremity. Student-friendly features in each chapter include an outline, learning objectives, overview, key terms with pronunciations, and word origins designating the Latin or Greek derivative. Clear, simple explanations make it easy to understand kinesiology concepts, including muscle contraction(s), coordination of muscles with movement, core stabilization, posture, exercise, reflexes, and how the nervous system controls and directs the muscular system. Expert author Joseph E. Muscolino, DC, offers years of experience in the study of muscles and muscle function, as well as bodywork and massage, and conveys that information in an understandable format.
