There was a warm breeze in the air as members of the church filed out of their cars. Mothers fussed over their daughters' hair, brothers played tag in the parking lot, ushers prepared to greet visitors with a welcoming smile. However, once they walked toward the main doors of the church, they were shocked by what they saw. A poster-size florescent orange sticker covered the once stained-glass double doors. "Church has been cancelled until further notice." What happens when life as many church-goers know it, is no longer a part of their weekly routine? What happens when the issues of church business disappear? What happens when the "pew" has moved from the church house to home? In Who Moved My Pew, authors Jayda Craig and Sonya Hollins use the parable of six church members whose lives will never be the same as they come to realize the true meaning of church.

WINNER of the 2021 NYPL Young Lions Fiction Award. Finalist for the 2021 Dylan Thomas Prize. Longlisted for the 2021 PEN/Jean Stein Book Award, the Andrew Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Fiction and the Joyce Carol Oates Prize. One of Publishers Weekly's Best Fiction Books of 2020. One of Amazon's 100 Best Books of 2020. “The people of this community are stifling, and generous, cruel, earnest, needy, overconfident, fragile and repressive, which is to say that they are brilliantly rendered by their wise maker, Catherine Lacey.” --Rachel Kushner, author of The Flamethrowers A figure with no discernible identity appears in a small, religious town, throwing its inhabitants into a frenzy In a small, unnamed town in the American South, a church congregation arrives for a service and finds a figure asleep on a pew. The person is genderless and racially ambiguous and refuses to speak. One family takes in the strange visitor and nicknames them Pew. As the town spends the week preparing for a mysterious Forgiveness Festival, Pew is shuttled from one household to the next. The earnest and seemingly well-meaning townspeople see conflicting identities in Pew, and many confess their fears and secrets to them in one-sided conversations. Pew listens and observes while experiencing brief flashes of past lives or clues about their origin. As days pass, the void around Pew’s presence begins to unnerve the community, whose generosity erodes into menace and suspicion. Yet by the time Pew’s story reaches a shattering and unsettling climax at the Forgiveness Festival, the secret of who they really are—a devil or an angel or something else entirely—is dwarfed by even larger truths. Pew, Catherine Lacey’s third novel, is a foreboding, provocative, and amorphous fable about the world today: its contradictions, its flimsy morality, and the limits of judging others based on their appearance. With precision and restraint, one of our most beloved and boundary-pushing writers holds up a mirror to her characters’ true selves, revealing something about forgiveness, perception, and the faulty tools society uses to categorize human complexity.

2011 Retailers Choice Award winner! Rebecca never felt safe as a child. In 1969, her father, Robert Nichols, moved to Sellerstown, North Carolina, to serve as a pastor. There he found a small community eager to welcome him—with one exception. Glaring at him from pew number seven was a man obsessed with controlling the church. Determined to get rid of anyone who stood in his way, he unleashed a plan of terror that was more devastating and violent than the Nichols family could have ever imagined. Refusing to be driven away by acts of intimidation, Rebecca’s father stood his ground until one night when an armed man walked into the family’s kitchen . . . And Rebecca’s life was shattered. If anyone had a reason to harbor hatred and seek personal revenge, it would be Rebecca. Yet The Devil in Pew Number Seven tells a different story. It is the amazing true saga of relentless persecution, one family’s faith and courage in the face of it, and a daughter whose parents taught her the power of forgiveness.

'I wish I was an actor, because if I was an actor, I’d be acting about dying. But I’m not an actor. I am dying. I’m dying from cancer as a result of smoking.’ – Gerry Collins The whirlwind final few months in the life of Gerry Collins – the man behind the famous QUIT campaign run by the HSE in 2014 – movingly recounted by his daughter. In early 2014 Gerry Collins’ moving words carried across the nation. This was due to his central role in the ads for the HSE’s QUIT campaign, which sought to convince people to give up smoking. The nation saw a brave man warning others, trying to save people from making the same mistake that he made. But Gerry was also a family man. A father. For Lisa Collins, her dad had always been ‘her person’. She simply couldn’t imagine a future without him. In immediate and honest prose, Lisa guides us through this turbulent period in her life and the life of her family as they battled against the diagnosis, as filming for the ads commenced and the campaign was launched, and the public spotlight was suddenly thrust upon the Collins family – all while Lisa struggled to accept her father’s impending death and Gerry’s health quickly deteriorated. This account of the final months of the life of Gerry Collins, the man who moved the nation with his bravery and honesty, is at once heartbreaking and inspiring, succeeding as it does in capturing the joyful soul of Gerry Collins himself, as well as showcasing the heart and resilience of the daughter and family who supported him right to the very end.

Mitch Calloway had served as a youth minister at mega-church, White Hills Bible Church for ten years, and while he loved his job, he longed to pastor his own congregation. So when the opportunity came to interview for the position of pastor of the historic Mercy Fellowship in Shadow Glenn, Massachusetts, he knew it was God's call. Then he met with the church's board of deacons. Elijah Garby pelted Mitch with one question after another. "When did you turn your life over to Jesus?" Mitch didn't hesitate. "When I was fifteen." "When did you commit to serving in ministry?" "The same night." "Fine," Garby growled. "But what sort of formal education have you had?" Mitch wasn't about to let the old guy intimidate him. "I graduated from Anderson University. I majored in hermeneutics and minored in eschatology." "And since then?" "I've been a youth minister at White Hills Bible Church for the past ten years." "You have kids?" Garby growled. Mitch nodded. "Two. Matthew is eight, and Luke recently turned five." "How do you feel about demonic activity? Do you think it's real, or fantasy?" Mitch thought it a strange queston. He narrowed his eyes. "What do you mean?" "I mean do you believe in another realm, even though you can't see it?" "I don't know what you're driving at, Mister Garby." "I'm asking you is, are you prepared to do battle with the devil himself, if necessary?"

This book will cause laughter, sometimes a tear perhaps, will certainly entertain, and maybe make the reader ask "could something in this book be Just for me !" Comments of a few who have read this before publishing. "What a nice read. Pity there are not more books like this, they make you feel happy, and good" I really enjoyed your book, It is well written and of real interest. I'm not a religious man and therefore not so keen on the God-slot, but I admire your sincerity and without that the book would be spoiled. Keep it just as it is and try to get it published, if you write another I would buy it. Very Good work. Read your book by accident, couldn't put it down .Excellent, interesting and enjoyable. Would love to see it in print. (Another Book is coming soon "Long Road of Miracles")
