Excerpt from Whose Was the Blame?: A Woman's Version of the Kreutzer Sonata But the Princess seemed evidently to think that I had gazed at the young girl long enough, and asked me whether, according to my opinion, the taking of Constantinople was necessary to Russia or not. I gave my answer, and took leave of the ladies. When I reached the street, the spell which Nadine had thrown over me was distinctly weaker, and twice I could think of nothing but her mother's ugly earrings. Three hours later I had completely forgotten both. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. A work unprecedented in world literature, this unique volume contains a new translation of Lev Tolstoy’s controversial novella The Kreutzer Sonata, which was initially banned by Russian censors. In addition, available to English readers for the first time is a fascinating and previously neglected constellation of counterstories written by the author’s wife and son in direct response to Tolstoy’s provocative tale, each a passionate attempt to undo the message of the original work. These radically conflicting tales, accompanied by excerpts from family letters, diaries, notes, and memoirs, provide readers with a vivid and highly revealing case study of the powerful disputes concerning sexuality and gender roles that erupted within the cultural context of late-nineteenth-century Russian, as well as European, society.

Whose Fault? is the true story that speaks about a young girl who was born, grew up in a village, where she lived with her grandmother and her uncles without knowing her biological father. Her mother (Camilla), whom she called sister, got pregnant when working as a labourer at the NAFCO estate. After becoming pregnant, Camilla’s relationship with Godson didn’t end in a good way; she was forced out of her job and went back home to her family, where she gave birth to her daughter (Olive). Actually, Olive’s family weren’t financially sound enough to fulfil her needs, including sending her to secondary school after finishing her primary school education, although they would have loved to do so. She lived in the village where most of her fellow pupils ended up getting married and becoming farmers after their primary school education. Olive never wanted to get married or even to be a farmer; actually, life in the village never pleased her. Her dreams were to study to high levels after her primary school education. It was impossible for her to achieve her dreams because of the lack of finance in her family. She believed that if she could know her father, he could manage to educate her further, although she wasn’t sure of her thought. As she grew up and approached the end of her primary school education, she found herself in a dilemma. She was running out of time, and she had only a few months to find out about her father. She decided to force her mother to show her father to her. Otherwise, she would have to take the responsibility of taking her to secondary school, something that was impossible for her mother, who had been married to another man at the same village at the moment. Her mother never allowed her to ask those kinds of questions because it was a sort of shame in that village for girls who were brought up without knowing their fathers to demand to know them. Her mother was harsh to her, and her whole family was against her idea, but that didn’t stop her from asking and getting what she wanted. Although she didn’t have a clue about her father, she went the extra mile when she decided to search for him. She went through terrible moments that nearly took her life. I gave the book (Whose Fault) this title because, in the end, Olive met her father. One day, she asked him why he never searched for her, or even wanted to know whether she existed or not as he never saw (Camilla) again for fourteen years after she got pregnant. Surprisingly, his response was, ‘It was your mother’s fault. It was her responsibility to show your father to you.’ She realised that if she had never searched for him, he wouldn’t have ever searched for her, even though she didn’t know whom to blame.

Who Can We Blame Now, is about promoting awareness thru opinionated facts, personal experienses, and insight as the result of countless conversations with other African Americans through out the years about what goes on in our communities, such as lack of unity, the crabs in the bucket syndrone, and of corse, the blaming of other races particularly white for every socioeconomical downfall in our inner cities. If youre someone who is logical and accepts reality with no excuses, then this subject matter and the words you are about to read is as real and logical as it gets, and I wrote no excuses.
