Die Arbeit, ein Beitrag zur Fachsprachenforschung, zur Wissenschaftsgeschichte und zur Geschichte des wissenschaftlichen Schreibens in Portugal, untersucht unter Berücksichtigung des soziokulturellen und historischen Kontextes auf Grundlage der Memórias económicas der Academia das Ciências de Lisboa die Fachsprache der Landwirtschaft und der Ökonomie in Portugal am Ende des 18. und zu Beginn des 19. Jahrhunderts. Neben der Analyse der Terminologie werden u. a. die Vertextungsstrategien – Stil, Präsentation und Argumentation –, die Rolle des Französischen für den Wissenstransfer und die Ablösung des Lateinischen als Sprache der Wissenschaft betrachtet. Sprachgeschichte wird dabei in Kulturgeschichte eingebettet, um die Analyse der sprachlichen Daten durch den außersprachlichen Kontext zu untermauern.

Hier ist auch zu fragen, welcher Art die Desiderata zu einer Geschichte des Übersetzens sind: Geht es um die Kulturgeschichte des Übersetzens, um eine Methodengeschichte, um eine Sozialgeschichte, um eine Ereignis- oder Personengeschichte?
