Die Wissenschaftsforschung macht die Wissenschaft zum Gegenstand von Wissenschaft. Vor diesem Hintergrund versteht sich das vorliegende Lehrbuch als Wegweiser in einem manchmal unübersichtlichen interdisziplinären Gelände. Im ersten Teil werden Grundlagen und Grundbegriffe erläutert. Der zweite Teil sortiert zentrale Forschungsfelder; es geht um Expertise, um das Labor, um die Universität und um die Rolle der Wissenschaft für Innovationprozesse. Der dritte Teil bietet Orientierung in wissenschaftspolitischen Debatten; behandelt werden hier Fragen der Qualität von Forschung, ihre gesellschaftliche Relevanz und ihr Verhältnis zur Öffentlichkeit. Der vierte Teil führt in methodologische Debatten ein, bevor abschließend Erfahrungen aus der Lehrpraxis reflektiert werden.
