Cultures of Infancy presents the first systematic analysis of culturally informed developmental pathways, synthesizing evolutionary and cultural psychological perspectives for a broader understanding of human development. In this compelling book, author Heidi Keller utilizes ethnographic reports, as well as quantitative and qualitative analyses, to illustrate how humans resolve universal developmental tasks in particular sociodemographic contexts. These contexts are represented in cultural models, and three distinct models are addressed throughout the text: the model of independence with autonomy as developmental organizer; the model of interdependence with relatedness as the developmental organizer; and the model of autonomous relatedness representing particular mixtures of autonomy and relatedness. Seit Jahrzehnten ist Deutschland ein Zielland für viele Zuwanderer aus unterschiedlichen Ländern bzw. aus unterschiedlichen Kulturen. Die Migration kann aus unterschiedlichen Gründen vorkommen; beispielsweise aus politischen, wirtschaftlichen, natürlichen, familiären oder persönlichen Gründen. 2010 lebten rund 15,7 Millionen Menschen mit Migrationshintergrund in Deutschland. Das entsprach einem Teil von 19,3 % an der Gesamtbevölkerung Deutschlands. Mehr als die Hälfte, nämlich 8,6 Millionen Menschen, besaß einen deutschen Pass, während 7,1 Millionen Ausländer waren. Mit diesem großen Anteil an der Gesamtbevölkerung ist Deutschland eine von Einwanderung geprägte Gesellschaft, in der es eine kulturelle Vielfalt gibt. Erfahrungen mit Menschen anderer Nationalitäten und ihren unterschiedlichen Kulturen gehören heute für viele Deutschen zum normalen Alltag. Die vorliegende Studie beschäftigt sich mit diesem wichtigen Thema. Nach einer theoretischen Einführung in die interkulturelle Soziale Arbeit in der Einwanderungsgesellschaft im ersten Kapitel folgt dabei das Hauptkapitel dieser Arbeit über die Soziale Arbeit und binationale Familien. Als Einstieg in die Thematik nähert sich der Autor zunächst dem Begriff „Binational“ und gibt dann einen Überblick über die binationalen Familien in Deutschland. In dem Zusammenhang geht der Autor auch auf die Schwierigkeiten der binationalen Kinder und ihren Lebenszustand. Danach wird die Funktion der Sozialen Arbeit bei binationalen Familien, ihre Formen und ihre Kompetenzen erläutert und diskutiert. Die Arbeit endet mit einem Schlusswort.
