First published in 1983, Moving from the Primary Classroom is concerned with what happens to pupils when they change teachers in the primary school and when they move to the secondary or middle school. Although most children are well prepared for the organizational changes, they will face after transfer, the researchers found that major difficulties were encountered when pupils adjusted to the new teaching styles associated with specialist subjects. As pupils move up the primary school, and after transfer, there appears to be a decrease in individualization of the learning process in favour of whole-class teaching and group work. This poses particular problems for pupils who find the work either too difficult or not sufficiently challenging. The disparity in the varying rates at which children complete their work sometimes causes acute problems which are fully documented. This book will be of interest to students of education, pedagogy as well as teachers.

First Published in 1988. We live in reactionary times, at the time of writing the hard right is established in the UK and America. At the same time Britain has given birth to a number of progressive forces — the left-wing borough councils, the anti-nuclear movement including its impact at Greenham Common, an established women's movement, the miners' strike, the uprisings in the inner cities and the anti-racist struggle, while in America we have seen the advance of the Rainbow coalition and other progressive movements. Whatever the way forward, for the left, there is a fundamental need for a re-evaluation of basic Marxist scholarship but in the light of the significance of these historical and current realities. This book aims to play some small part in that process. The central focus is, of course, education but the issues raised range far wider.

The Frankfurt School Revisited written by Richard Wolin and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-05-13 with Political Science categories.
This volume is a collection of essays by Richard Wolin, a leading political theorist and intellectual historian. It is the follow up to Wolin’s two recent, widely acclaimed books: Heidegger’s Children and The Seduction of Unreason. In those books, he explored the legacy of Martin Heidegger and his impact on some of his most influential and notable students. He dealt particularly with the effect that Heidegger’s subsequent embrace of fascism and National Socialism had on these students. Delving further in his next book, Wolin explored the question of why philosophers and intellectuals have been drawn to antiliberal, antidemocratic fascism. The essays in this book are focused on European Political Thought particularly with figures associated with the Frankfurt School. The collection represents a virtual who’s who of European political thinkers with essays on Walter Benjamin, Adorno, Marcuse, Arendt, Heidegger, Weber, Jaspers, and Carl Schmitt. Moving beyond these thinkers and those books, this collection will also include essays on contemporary political issues such as post-communist revolutions, human rights, global democracy, the revival of republicanism, and religion and public life.

Revisiting Unity And Diversity In Federal Countries written by Alain-G. Gagnon and has been published by BRILL this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-09-24 with Law categories.
The principal aim of this book is to revisit the basic theme of “unity and diversity” that remains at the heart of research into federalism and federation. It is time to take another look at its contemporary relevance to ascertain how far the bifocal relationship between unity and diversity has evolved over the years and has been translated into changing conceptual lenses, practical reform proposals and in some cases new institutional practices. This book is structured around four main parts: (1) the evolving conception of diversity over time and across continents; (2) the interplay between unity and diversity in complex settings; (3) federalism as decision-making and new institutional practices that have been put forward and tested; and (4) constitutional design and asymmetrical federalism as a way to respond to legitimate and insisting claims and political demands.

Nowadays, algebra education is subject to worldwide scrutiny. Different opinions on its goals, approaches and achievements are at the heart of debates among teachers, educators, researchers and decision makers. What should the teaching of algebra in secondary school mathematics look like? Should it focus on procedural skills or on algebraic insight? Should it stress practice or integrate technology? Do we require formal proofs and notations, or do informal representations suffice? Is algebra in school an abstract subject, or does it take its relevance from application in (daily life) contexts? What should secondary school algebra education that prepares for higher education and professional practice in the twenty-first century look like? This book addresses these questions, and aims to inform in-service and future teachers, mathematics educators and researchers on recent insights in the domain, and on specific topics and themes such as the historical development of algebra, the role of productive practice, and algebra in science and engineering in particular. The authors, all affiliated with the Freudenthal Institute for Science and Mathematics Education in the Netherlands, share a common philosophy, which acts as a ? sometimes nearly invisible ? backbone for the overall view on algebra education: the theory of realistic mathematics education. From this point of departure, different perspectives are chosen to describe the opportunities and pitfalls of today’s and tomorrow’s algebra education. Inspiring examples and reflections illustrate current practice and explore the unknown future of algebra education to appropriately meet students’ needs.

Revisiting Language Learning Resources written by Carlos Periñán Pascual and has been published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009-03-26 with Language Arts & Disciplines categories.
Human and material resources are two key elements that make up the language learning process. Regarding material resources, nowadays new technologies can be said to play a leading role in most language learning environments. However, we cannot forget that these relatively new tools still coexist with more traditional ones which are still widely used in the foreign language classroom. On the other hand, the progressive emergence of new 'human roles' in language learning means that human resources have also become a key medium through which the learner accesses knowledge and practice towards language acquisition. There is an obvious need to carry out research on these resources in order to assess their potential for an optimum learning experience. This book tries to meet such needs offering the research work that different authors have carried out in this field.
