This book intends to provide material for a graduate course on computational commutative algebra and algebraic geometry, highlighting potential applications in cryptography. Also, the topics in this book could form the basis of a graduate course that acts as a segue between an introductory algebra course and the more technical topics of commutative algebra and algebraic geometry. This book contains a total of 124 exercises with detailed solutions as well as an important number of examples that illustrate definitions, theorems, and methods. This is very important for students or researchers who are not familiar with the topics discussed. Experience has shown that beginners who want to take their first steps in algebraic geometry are usually discouraged by the difficulty of the proposed exercises and the absence of detailed answers. Therefore, exercises (and their solutions) as well as examples occupy a prominent place in this course. This book is not designed as a comprehensive reference work, but rather as a selective textbook. The many exercises with detailed answers make it suitable for use in both a math or computer science course.

A First Course In Algebraic Geometry And Algebraic Varieties written by Flaminio Flamini and has been published by World Scientific Publishing Europe Limited this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023 with Geometry, Algebraic categories.

"This book provides a gentle introduction to the foundations of Algebraic Geometry, starting from computational topics (ideals and homogeneous ideals, zero loci of ideals) up to increasingly intrinsic and abstract arguments, like "Algebraic Varieties", whose natural continuation is a more advanced course on the theory of schemes, vector bundles and sheaf-cohomology. Valuable to students studying Algebraic Geometry and Geometry, A First Course in Algebraic Geometry and Algebraic Varieties contains around 60 solved exercises to help students thoroughly understand the theories introduced in the book. Proofs of the results are carried out in full details. Many examples are discussed which reinforces the understanding of both the theoretical elements and their consequences as well as the possible applications of the material"--

This text covers topics in algebraic geometry and commutative algebra with a strong perspective toward practical and computational aspects. The first four chapters form the core of the book. A comprehensive chart in the Preface illustrates a variety of ways to proceed with the material once these chapters are covered. In addition to the fundamentals of algebraic geometry—the elimination theorem, the extension theorem, the closure theorem and the Nullstellensatz—this new edition incorporates several substantial changes, all of which are listed in the Preface. The largest revision incorporates a new Chapter (ten), which presents some of the essentials of progress made over the last decades in computing Gröbner bases. The book also includes current computer algebra material in Appendix C and updated independent projects (Appendix D). The book may serve as a first or second course in undergraduate abstract algebra and with some supplementation perhaps, for beginning graduate level courses in algebraic geometry or computational algebra. Prerequisites for the reader include linear algebra and a proof-oriented course. It is assumed that the reader has access to a computer algebra system. Appendix C describes features of MapleTM, Mathematica® and Sage, as well as other systems that are most relevant to the text. Pseudocode is used in the text; Appendix B carefully describes the pseudocode used. Readers who are teaching from Ideals, Varieties, and Algorithms, or are studying the book on their own, may obtain a copy of the solutions manual by sending an email to jlittle@holycross.edu. From the reviews of previous editions: “...The book gives an introduction to Buchberger’s algorithm with applications to syzygies, Hilbert polynomials, primary decompositions. There is an introduction to classical algebraic geometry with applications to the ideal membership problem, solving polynomial equations and elimination theory. ...The book is well-written. ...The reviewer is sure that it will be an excellent guide to introduce further undergraduates in the algorithmic aspect of commutative algebra and algebraic geometry.” —Peter Schenzel, zbMATH, 2007 “I consider the book to be wonderful. ... The exposition is very clear, there are many helpful pictures and there are a great many instructive exercises, some quite challenging ... offers the heart and soul of modern commutative and algebraic geometry.” —The American Mathematical Monthly

Written at a level appropriate to undergraduates, this book covers such topics as the Hilbert Basis Theorem, the Nullstellensatz, invariant theory, projective geometry, and dimension theory. The book bases its discussion of algorithms on a generalisation of the division algorithm for polynomials in one variable that was only discovered in the 1960's. Although the algorithmic roots of algebraic geometry are old, the computational aspects were neglected earlier in this century. This has changed in recent years, and new algorithms, coupled with the power of fast computers, have let to some interesting applications, for example in robotics and in geometric theorem proving. In preparing this new edition, the authors present an improved proof of the Buchberger Criterion as well as a proof of Bezout's Theorem.

"This book succeeds brilliantly by concentrating on a number of core topics...and by treating them in a hugely rich and varied way. The author ensures that the reader will learn a large amount of classical material and perhaps more importantly, will also learn that there is no one approach to the subject. The essence lies in the range and interplay of possible approaches. The author is to be congratulated on a work of deep and enthusiastic scholarship." --MATHEMATICAL REVIEWS

A First Course in Computational Algebraic Geometry is designed for young students with some background in algebra who wish to perform their first experiments in computational geometry. Originating from a course taught at the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences, the book gives a compact presentation of the basic theory, with particular emphasis on explicit computational examples using the freely available computer algebra system, Singular. Readers will quickly gain the confidence to begin performing their own experiments.

This book introduces readers to key ideas and applications of computational algebraic geometry. Beginning with the discovery of Gröbner bases and fueled by the advent of modern computers and the rediscovery of resultants, computational algebraic geometry has grown rapidly in importance. The fact that "crunching equations" is now as easy as "crunching numbers" has had a profound impact in recent years. At the same time, the mathematics used in computational algebraic geometry is unusually elegant and accessible, which makes the subject easy to learn and easy to apply. This book begins with an introduction to Gröbner bases and resultants, then discusses some of the more recent methods for solving systems of polynomial equations. A sampler of possible applications follows, including computer-aided geometric design, complex information systems, integer programming, and algebraic coding theory. The lectures in this book assume no previous acquaintance with the material.

A First Course In Modular Forms written by Fred Diamond and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2006-03-30 with Mathematics categories.

This book introduces the theory of modular forms, from which all rational elliptic curves arise, with an eye toward the Modularity Theorem. Discussion covers elliptic curves as complex tori and as algebraic curves; modular curves as Riemann surfaces and as algebraic curves; Hecke operators and Atkin-Lehner theory; Hecke eigenforms and their arithmetic properties; the Jacobians of modular curves and the Abelian varieties associated to Hecke eigenforms. As it presents these ideas, the book states the Modularity Theorem in various forms, relating them to each other and touching on their applications to number theory. The authors assume no background in algebraic number theory and algebraic geometry. Exercises are included.
