Measuring Writing Recent Insights Into Theory Methodology And Practice written by Elke van Steendam and has been published by BRILL this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-11-20 with Education categories.
This volume provides a state-of-the-art overview of theory, methodology and practices in the assessment of writing. The focus throughout the book is on the construct of writing and its assessment: what constitutes writing ability and how can it be defined (in various contexts)? This question cannot be answered without looking into the methodological question of how to validate and measure the construct of writing ability. Throughout the book, therefore, discussions integrate theoretical and methodological issues. A number of chapters discusses whether varying definitions and varying operationalizations of writing ability are needed in various contexts, such as formative assessments versus summative assessments, large scale assessments versus individual assessments, different tasks, different genres, and different languages, but also different age groups. A range of rating methods is investigated and discussed in this book. The ongoing debate on holistic versus analytic ratings, and the different underlying conceptions of writing proficiency, is a pertinent matter, on which a number of chapters in this volume shed new light. The matter is discussed and analyzed from various angles, such as generalizability of judgements and usability in formative contexts. Another fundamental debate concerns computer scoring of written products. A nuanced discussion of its validity is presented in this volume.

It is generally opined though erroneously, that the Vedanta or Upanisads are beyond the reach of common lot of people, and are meant for only the recluses dedicated to the spiritual quest. Swami Vivekananda not only introduced them to the general public, but also tried to convince them that the Upanisads have solutions to our common problems. The essays presented in this book attempt to give a glimpse into the Upanisadic methodology or Vicara as it is called, which makes use of doubt and inquiry.

Novel Insights Into The Pathophysiology Of Diabetesrelated Complications Implications For Improved Therapeutic Strategies Volume Ii written by Jian Ma and has been published by Frontiers Media SA this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2025-04-30 with Medical categories.
Given that Volume I of the topic Novel Insights into the Pathophysiology of Diabetes-related Complications: Implications for Improved Therapeutic Strategies has been successfully performed last year, and we have received submissions talking about diabetic retinopathy (DR), diabetic neuropathy (DN), type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM)-associated periodontitis, diabetic oxidative liver damage, diabetic-related wound healing, etc. We are pleased to announce the launch of Volume II. Diabetes mellitus (DM), as a major health problem, has been highly prevalent across the globe. It is increasingly apparent that not only a cure for the current worldwide diabetes epidemic is required, but also a cure for its major complications, including heart disease, chronic kidney disease, and nerve damage. In addition, other problems with feet, oral health, vision, hearing, reproduction, and mental health need to be explored as well. Understanding the underlying mechanisms of these diabetic complications would be helpful to prevent or delay the occurrence of complications and to improve the overall health condition of people with DM. Unfortunately, current therapies only slow down disease deterioration of most prevalent diabetic complications. Indeed, whether the mechanisms in diabetic complications are protective or pathological remains not fully defined, based on the impacts during the underlying disease process. Thus, we welcome academic articles that can provide the latest insights into the pathophysiology of diabetes-related complications. These submissions range from uncovering the intracellular signaling pathways with the development of diabetic complications, to exploring the possible role of genetic issues, metabolic regulation, and inflammation mechanisms. We welcome high-quality Original Research and Review articles that contribute to the mechanism investigation of a range of diabetic complications, including but not limited to: • Microvascular damage-related diseases in diabetic patients, such as neuropathy, nephropathy, and retinopathy; • Foot damage and skin problems in diabetes; • Reproductive disorder in diabetic women; • The relationship between diabetes and the development of Alzheimer's disease, depression, and cognitive impairment. In this continued Volume II, we are looking forward to seeing many more academic articles on DM-related heart disease, a reproductive disorder in diabetic women or the relationship between diabetes and the development of Alzheimer’s disease, etc. Also, Methods articles that introduce novel experimental methods or animal models that contribute to understanding the formation and progress of diabetic complications are continually welcome. Opinions or Perspectives regarding the implications of new research on the treatment of diabetic complications are encouraged too.

Overview Language educators often have varied levels of comfort and expertise with emerging technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI). This creates a pedagogical gap that must be filled to ensure that educators can make informed choices about the technologies they integrate into their classrooms. The primary aim of “Insights into AI and Language Teaching” is to function as a comprehensive training guide for language educators interested in incorporating AI technologies into their teaching practice for foreign/second language education across a variety of language contexts—not just English as a Foreign Language (EFL), but also for the teaching of other foreign languages. This book aims to act as a bridge, guiding teachers from a basic understanding of AI to a level where they can confidently employ it as part of their teaching toolbox. As teachers have a long-lasting impact on how students view learning, adopt new technologies, and even how they perceive themselves, this book will, therefore, focus not only on technology but also on how teachers can be empowered to use AI in a way that enhances their influence and the positive impact they can have on their students. Comparative Genomics is the field of knowledge dedicated to the analysis and comparison of genes and genomes. The scientific areas comprised in this field include subjects as diverse as (just naming a few): 1) the development of algorithms for the alignment of genes, whole genomes, short- and long sequencing reads, 2) the search for remote sequence similarity, 3) the discovery of motifs and sequence patterns, 4) the identification of gene families, 5) the detection of ortholog/paralog groups, 6) the reconstruction of evolutionary history of the genes, 7) the detection of signs of selective forces exerted over genes and genomes, 8) the reconstruction of ancestral DNA and genome sequences, 9) the detection and analysis of genome synteny, 10) the inference of ancestral gene order, among others. In addition, an important new sub-field of Comparative Genomics has emerged in the last decade, referred to as Pangenomics, making available improved tools to analyze the exponential genomic data accumulating since the development of Second- and Third-Generation Sequencing Technologies.
