Anxiety 101: The Holistic Approach to Managing Your Anxiety & Taking Back Your Life presents readers with an overview of the condition that affects approximately sixteen million Americans and provides a comprehensive list of the wide variety of integrative holistic treatment options available. Dr. Eudene Harry combines her experience in modern medicine and passion for holistic care in this handbook for anyone who suffers from anxiety.Harry notes that in a society that desires a pill for every ill, “it is important that we learn the root causes behind a patient's anxiety in order to form both a proper diagnosis and treatment regimen” (46). Anxiety 101 is intentionally structured to appeal both to patients who suffer from anxiety and medical professionals who treat the disorder. This easily readable book includes current statistical information from reputable medical studies as well as real-life “case studies” gleamed from the author's extensive experience as a traditional medical practitioner in a hospital setting and her current career as a holistic healthcare provider. Readers from a variety of backgrounds will appreciate her extensive overview of the biological history of the anxiety problem our society is now facing. For those who read Anxiety 101 in an attempt to learn more about their own disorder, Harry suggests that “arming yourself with the basic, physiological facts about how the anxiety response works is one critical step in the right direction” (102), and she provides such facts in simple terms using relatable examples. In the later chapters of Anxiety 101: The Holistic Approach to Managing Your Anxiety & Taking Back Your Life, Harry expands her belief that a “holistic approach to wellness is about creating a harmonious relationship with all aspects of your life” (78) by providing readers, both patients and practitioners alike, with a comprehensive list of treatment options, how they work, and their specific benefits. In addition to a refreshingly unbiased review of the pharmaceuticals commonly used to treat anxiety (serotonin boosters, GABA boosters, and beta blockers), a long list of alternative therapies are described: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), nuerofeedback, exercise, herbs, nutrients and vitamins, nutrition, meditation, visualization, essential oils, massage, probiotics, laughter, sleep, and weight loss.Anxiety 101 proves to be a valuable tool for anyone who seeks to understand the causes of anxiety disorders and learn how to employ holistic treatment options to improve health and happiness.

The most common mental health problem facing Canadian children today is anxiety. It’'s easy to dismiss the emotional, psychological, and physical effects of anxiety in children as being ''all in their heads'' -- but doing so can have a profoundly negative impact on a child'’s development: socially, academically, and emotionally. This accessible, illustrated book helps all kids understand anxiety better and offers practical ideas for coping. Filled with information, quizzes, definitions, and helpful hints, Deal With It: Anxiety helps young people identify and deal with the many different ways that anxiety is expressed, from phobias to panic attacks, in settings as diverse as home, the schoolyard, and the mall. It offers insight to everyone -- to the child experiencing anxiety, to someone who doubts the problem is real, and to a young person who witnesses another’'s problem. This book adds an important new topic to the Deal With It series'' approachable and non-threatening approach to different forms of conflict in the lives of young people.

This book aims to help therapists working with clients who struggle with anxiety by offering them solution-focused (SF) viewpoints and skills. As Insoo Kim Berg put it in her foreword for Fredrike Bannink’s highly successful 1001 Solution-Focused Questions: Handbook for Solution-Focused Interviewing, “SFBT is based on the respectful assumption that clients have the inner resources to construct highly individualized and uniquely effective solutions to their problems.” From the more than 2,000 questions she has collected over the years, Bannink has selected the 101 most relevant for each subject. "Depression in college students has reached a crisis and the prevalence continues to rise. The increasing psychological distress of the current generation, Gen Z, and their greater willingness to obtaining mental health care have overwhelmed most college counseling services. Despite this sobering news, parents can play a critically important role and the book describes a plan for supporting and preventing depression in young people. Each chapter concludes with practical suggestions and strategies for parents. There are four sections. The first section is a description of adolescent development and the types of depressive symptoms and disorders that may emerge. The second section details the foundation that students need in order to move toward a successful college experience, including family support, communication and assertiveness skills; the development of self-efficacy and problem-solving skills; the process of self-regulation, and distress tolerance. Barriers to self-regulation and optimal development include underage substance use and unsafe sexual relationships. The third section examines vulnerabilities to depression, including cognitive distortions, perfectionism, and the stress of being a sexual minority or an overweight and thus subject to harassment. Challenges faced by students are seen as "different," are explored. what happens to students who are seen as "different." The final section is a description of life on campus including the stresses of college life and the opportunities to develop friendships, relationships with faculty, and a more meaningful view of the future. There are chapters on how to access mental health services before and during college. The book concludes with a call to reduce stress on students and challenge the competitive individualistic culture"--
