This book summarizes present knowledge of different mechanisms involved in the development of positive and negative consequences of cardiac adaptation. Particular attention is paid to the still underestimated adaptive cardiac responses during development, to adaptation to the frequently occurring pressure and volume overload as well as to cardiac changes, induced by enduring exercise and chronic hypoxia. Cardiac Adaptations will be of great value to cardiovascular investigators, who will find this book highly useful in their cardiovascular studies for finding solutions in diverse pathological conditions; it will also appeal to students, fellows, scientists, and clinicians interested in cardiovascular abnormalities.

Cardiac hypertrophy and accompanying phenomena have received increasing attention in recent years - particularly in the basic sciences. The present volume contains the proceedings of the Erwin RIESCH SYMPOSIUM on "CARDIAC ADAPTATION TO HEMODYNAMIC OVERLOAD, TRAINING AND STRESS" held in Tiibingen on Sep tember 19-22, 1982. In addition to the topics of the previous symposia (1976 and 1979) concerned with problems of cardiac hypertrophy, the scope of this sequel meeting has been expanded to include related fields. The intention was to consider numerous related features and problems of chronic reactions of the heart (and vascular system) to abnormal hemodynamic loading, as well as alterations due to maturation, aging, training, neuroendocrine status and stress. Special attention has been paid to cardiac reactions at the level of contractile proteins. The results are considered primarily in light of long-term adaptation of the heart. Of course, research at the forefront of current knowledge need not always lead to congruent conclusions. Neither can the individual contributions always agree with the viewpoint of the editors. However, the broad array of individual approaches employed by biochemists, biolo gists, pathologists, physiologists, pharmacologists and clinical cardio logists will certainly help to provide a more balanced interpretation of the results in individual fields, stimulate reexamination of established con cepts and provide direction for future research.

The effective management of Cardiac remodeling(CR), remains a major challenge. Heart failure remains the leading cause of death in industrialized countries. Yet, despite the enormity of the problem, effective therapeutic interventions remain elusive. In fact, several initially promising agents were found to decrease mortality in patients recovering from myocardial infarction. Cardiac remodeling is defined as molecular and interstitial changes, manifested clinically by changes in size, mass , geometry and function of the heart in response to certain aggression. Initially, ventricular remodeling aims to maintain stable cardiac function in situations of aggression.

Athlete S Heart written by Antonello D’Andrea and has been published by Elsevier this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-05-03 with Science categories.

Athlete's Heart: A Multimodal Approach – From Physiological to Pathological Cardiac Adaptations provides a complete overview of all adaptations of the heart to sport practice by highlighting the different diagnosis between athlete’s heart and pathological remodeling. Written by international experts in the field, chapters discuss ECG findings, echocardiogram data, cardiac magnetic resonance and new forms of multimodality imaging, providing readers with evidence-based guidance on how to differentiate athlete's heart from cardiomyopathies. Athlete's heart is the term given to a constellation of cardiac structural, functional and electrical remodeling that accompanies regular athletic training. Due to the substantial phenotypic overlap between electrical and structural changes observed in the physiological athletic heart remodeling and pathological changes resulted from inherited or acquired cardiomyopathies, distinguishing between adaptive and maladaptive cardiovascular response to exercise is a challenging task. Presents a comprehensive overview of exercise-induced cardiac adaptations Provides practical aspects for a differential diagnosis between a physiological and a pathological cardiac remodeling Includes new imaging technics, with a special focus on multi-modality imaging, such as exercise echocardiography, and new echocardiographic modalities (3D Strain)

Evidence Based Cardiology Consult written by Kathleen Stergiopoulos and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-11-01 with Medical categories.

The book will provide a detailed evidence-based approach to key issues in the pathophysiology, diagnosis, and management of patients with concurrent medical issues. It will provide a clinical focus with practical advice on the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of heart disease supported by an expert’s summary, without duplicating other texts. Each chapter will be structured similarly in the following sections: (1) Introduction, (2) Pathophysiology, (3) Diagnosis (4) Management (5) Key Points, (6) Summary of the key guidelines from professional societies where available. The recommendations will have a firm background in the AHA/ACC or ESC recommendations for the management of patients. The intention is to create a comprehensive book rather than a pocketbook or manual. We hope this book will serve as an up to date reference for the practicing clinician. Each of the approximately 40 chapters will have at most 5000 words and 5 -7 high quality figures or illustrations each. Only the highest quality authors will be recruited from the United States and Europe. The emphasis will be on depth of information yet ease of access. This necessitates an approach whereby not a single word, sentence or page of the book will be wasted. Brief where it needs to be brief, detailed where detail is required, this will be a true all-encompassing clinician reference.

Hypertension In Pregnancy written by Alexander Heazell and has been published by Cambridge University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-08-26 with Medical categories.

Hypertensive disorders are among the most common medical complications of pregnancy, with an incidence of approximately 6-10%. This spectrum of conditions includes essential hypertension, pre-eclampsia and HELLP syndrome. For patients with pre-existing hypertension, management ideally commences prior to conception, and continues through pregnancy to the postnatal period. This book provides information on the evidence-based management of women with hypertension throughout pregnancy, supported by important background information on the etiology, risk-factors and pathophysiology of these disorders. Illustrated with accompanying algorithms, tables and lists for quick reference on diagnostic criteria, drugs and side-effects, this book will help clinicians rapidly gain access to the information they need to care for these patients. This will to be of interest to all grades of obstetric trainees as well as specialists, obstetric anesthetists and anesthetic trainees, midwives and maternal-fetal physicians.
