Whether you are running a multinational or just running a family, change is not like a game of Monopoly, where your piece saunters sedately around the board from start to finish. Instead, it is much more like a game of Ludo, where you can have a number of pieces on the board at the same time, some of which are moving and some of which are not! This is just like in real life, because not moving is also a form of change management. With many years of worldwide experience behind him, Yves Van Durme demonstrates how change can be much easier if you do not automatically regard it as a problem, but see it more as a question of the right mindset. In addition, you will learn more about his highly individualist views on leadership, in which the world of games is never far off. Whether you peruse the book from cover to cover or whether you just dip into it at random, by the end of your reading you will know exactly what kind of leader you are. You will also discover that change is really no more than child's play. "The infinity loop may seem to indicate perpetual effort, but this book brings the positive message that with the right focus, courage, leadership & team spirit you can make change work. A must read for all leaders navigating through transformation and/or building capacity for change." - Gertrud Ingestad - Director-General DG HR at European Commission "In this insightful book, Yves Van Durme works 'the canon' of the digital change world. He has a – always - curious mind, a creative approach and thirty years experience." Paul Gibbons - Partner, Talent and Transformation, IBM and author of The Science of Organizational Change.

Sustainable product design is more than eco design: it goes beyond 'green' to consider the work environment, community impacts, consumer health, and economic viability, as well as environmental attributes. "Beyond Child's Play" explores the concept of sustainable product design in the context of the global doll-making industry. To initiate this research, the author reviewed eco design parameters and developed criteria for sustainable product design in the doll-making industry. Using this framework, she conducted three case studies of do I making: the American Girl doll produced in China, the Kathe Kruse doll produced in Germany and the Q'ewar Project doll produced in Peru. Themes emerged from this research that have relevance beyond the doll-making industry: the value of making a product with care; designing work for human dignity; intention and vision for sustainability; the implications of materials choices; and, transparency and sustainability. Sustainable product design calls for fundamentally new thinking. By connecting the term 'sustainable' to 'product', we raise expectations for a radically different approach to design, production, and consumption. This framework integrates the eco design principles of detoxification and dematerialization with the principle of 'humanization', to ensure that the work environment where the product is made is safe and healthy and that local communities benefit from production. This approach places increased responsibility on the industrial designer and decision-makers throughout the supply chain, including governments, corporations, and citizens. Sustainable product design can be implemented effectively only when systems are in place that support sustainable production and consumption.

From one of Canada’s most inspiring and gifted sports heroes, an urgently needed guide to getting our kids active and healthy. Like many of us, Silken Laumann’s fondest childhood memories are of play: staying outside until that final call for dinner, neighbourhood-wide games of Capture-the-Flag and road hockey that went on for hours. But as a parent, Silken knows the world has changed. We are afraid to let our children out of sight, our streets don’t feel safe, neighbours don’t know and rely on each other like they used to. While we recognize the need for our kids to be active, our fears, along with our busy lives and the enormous societal pressure to (simultaneously) make athletes, academics, and artists out of our children, have led us to schedule their every activity, driving them to and from soccer practice, piano lessons, tutorials. We have forgotten just how important unstructured play is for our children’s development and well-being: It keeps kids healthy, creative and active; it teaches them valuable life skills and, most importantly, it lets our kids be kids, worry-free, unfettered. Child’s Play is a call for action, a guide to reconnecting with our kids, and a blueprint for building safe, supportive communities and healthy schools. Above all, it’s a book of simple ideas for parents desperate for change.
