This book explores the latest theories, methods, and applications of consensus modeling. It proposes a variety of consensus modeling methods for different decision-making contexts, including conflict risk mitigation in group decision-making, integration with the failure mode and effects analysis technique, consideration of over-adjustment and flexible consensus, social network large-group decision-making environments involving multiple consensus costs, and multi-agent collaborative decision-making with consideration of trade-offs between revenue and reputation. In addition, this book discusses the application and implementation process of the proposed consensus modeling techniques in real-world decision-making, including collecting decision data, organizing decision-making groups, controlling the decision-making process, and evaluating the results. We encourage researchers, academics, students, business managers, and policy makers engaged in a variety of real-world decisions characterized by group decision-making (e.g., emergency decisions, public affairs decisions, and major corporate decisions) to pay attention to the proposals presented in the book. This book systematically describes the latest theories, methods, and applications of consensus modeling with a view to providing practical methodological support for corporate decision-making, governmental decision-making, and so on. Special emphasis is placed on the fact that this book can provide students, especially graduate students, with a comprehensive perspective on the study of consensus modeling. For businesses and governments, this book provides methodological support for how to merge inputs from multiple parties to obtain a majority-approved consensus solution (at minimal group cost) and ultimately develop group wisdom.

Group Model Building written by Rodney Scott and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-06-12 with Business & Economics categories.

This book describes the cognitive and interpersonal effects of group model building, and presents empirical research on what group model building achieves and how. Further, it proposes an integrated causal mechanism for the effects on participants. There have been multiple previous attempts at explaining the effects of group model building on participants, and this book integrates these various theories for the first time. The causal mechanisms described here suggest a variety of design elements that should be included in group model building practice. For example, practitioners typically try to reduce complexity for clients, to make the process feel more accessible. In contrast, the findings presented here suggest that the very act of muddling through complexity increases participants’ affective commitment to the group and the decisions made. The book also describes implications for theory and practice. System dynamics has traditionally been interested in using technical modeling processes to make policy recommendations. Group model building demonstrates that these same techniques also have implications for group decision making as a method for negotiating agreement. The book argues for the value of group model building as a mediating or negotiating tool, rather than merely a positivist tool for technical problems.

Shepherds of the Flock is intended to help equip fellow elders and elder chairmen with wisdom God has graciously given the author through the word, experience, and other godly people. Shepherds of the Flock is divided into three sections depending on where an individual is in their service as elder. The first section, "A Shepherd's Character," is the baseline biblical context for qualifications to serve as an elder and provides tips for serving. This section is a good reminder for an experienced elder and a good starting point for a new elder, perhaps serving for the first time. The second section, "A Shepherd's Work: Shepherding the Flock," is a challenge to focus on the 1 Peter 5:2 mandate to shepherd those in our congregations and provides some useful tools on how to do that effectively. The final section, "Shepherding the Shepherds," focuses on elders encouraging and shepherding fellow elders, whether in the role of chairman or as a co-laborer for the Lord. Anthony Tako's prayer is that this book, combined with the practical discussion guides at the end of each chapter, will be a useful equipping tool for the encouragement and effectiveness of elders and church leaders.

Knowledge Technology And Systems written by Yoshiteru Nakamori and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-07-15 with Business & Economics categories.

This book discusses technology and systems to create valuable ideas from data through the construction of knowledge. The primary concern is to make better decisions about economic and management issues in today’s information-flooded society. Human creative activity is in the realm of soft technology, with no physical entity to operate. Focusing on the ability of knowledge as judgment power, this definition results: “Knowledge technology is soft technology that underpins the human creative activities of converting data and information into knowledge, creating new ideas based on that knowledge and validating those ideas.” That definition includes a wide range of soft technologies developed in informatics, management studies, and systems science. The knowledge system creates ideas from data and knowledge through knowledge technologies. Based on the proposition that knowledge emerges by the interaction between explicit and tacit knowledge, another definition is possible: “The knowledge system is a system that promotes interaction between codified and personalized knowledge and creates ideas for solving a specific problem.” Codified knowledge includes data and information, while personalized knowledge is empirical knowledge or wisdom that is difficult to put into words. Building a knowledge system requires mathematical or intelligent knowledge technology and participatory knowledge technology to create or manage codified knowledge and personalized knowledge. For example, a company builds cross-sectional knowledge systems by gathering human resources from various departments, according to the purpose, as in new product development or sales promotion. Chapter 1 defines knowledge technology and the knowledge system and organizes the challenges in their development, while Chapters 2 through 9 introduce mathematical or intelligent knowledge technologies by researchers at the forefront of knowledge technology development.

Tens of thousands of chemicals are released into the environment every day. High-throughput screening (HTS) has offered a more efficient and cost-effective alternative to traditional toxicity tests that can profile these chemicals for potential adverse effects with the aim to prioritize a manageable number for more in depth testing and to provide clues to mechanism of toxicity. The Tox21 program, a collaboration between the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS)/National Toxicology Program (NTP), the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) National Center for Computational Toxicology (NCCT), the National Institutes of Health (NIH) National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS), and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), has generated quantitative high-throughput screening (qHTS) data on a library of 10K compounds, including environmental chemicals and drugs, against a panel of nuclear receptor and stress response pathway assays during its production phase (phase II). The Tox21 Challenge, a worldwide modeling competition, was launched that asks a “crowd” of researchers to use these data to elucidate the extent to which the interference of biochemical and cellular pathways by compounds can be inferred from chemical structure data. In the Challenge participants were asked to model twelve assays related to nuclear receptor and stress response pathways using the data generated against the Tox21 10K compound library as the training set. The computational models built within this Challenge are expected to improve the community’s ability to prioritize novel chemicals with respect to potential concern to human health. This research topic presents the resulting computational models with good predictive performance from this Challenge.

This unique guide will provide an overview of radical U.S. political movements on both the left and the right sides of the ideological spectrum, with a focus on analyzing the origins and trajectory of the various movements and the impact that movement ideas and activities have had on mainstream American politics. The work is organized thematically, with each chapter focusing on a prominent arena of radical activism in the United States. The chapters will trace the chronological development of these extreme leftist and rightist movements throughout U.S. history. Each chapter will include a discussion of central individuals, organizations, and events as well as their impact on popular opinion, political discourse and public policy. For movements that have arisen multiple times throughout U.S. history (nativism, religious, radical labor, separatists), the chapter will trace the history over time but the analysis will emphasize its most recent manifestations. Sidebar features will be included in each chapter to provide additional contextual information to facilitate increased understanding of the topic.
