The improved and expanded second edition contains expositions of some major results which have been obtained in the years since the 1st edition. Theaffirmative answer by Preiss of the decades old question of whether a Banachspace with an equivalent Gateaux differentiable norm is a weak Asplund space. The startlingly simple proof by Simons of Rockafellar's fundamental maximal monotonicity theorem for subdifferentials of convex functions. The exciting new version of the useful Borwein-Preiss smooth variational principle due to Godefroy, Deville and Zizler. The material is accessible to students who have had a course in Functional Analysis; indeed, the first edition has been used in numerous graduate seminars. Starting with convex functions on the line, it leads to interconnected topics in convexity, differentiability and subdifferentiability of convex functions in Banach spaces, generic continuity of monotone operators, geometry of Banach spaces and the Radon-Nikodym property, convex analysis, variational principles and perturbed optimization. While much of this is classical, streamlined proofs found more recently are given in many instances. There are numerous exercises, many of which form an integral part of the exposition.

Convex Functions Monotone Operators And Differentiability written by Robert R. Phelps and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-12-11 with Mathematics categories.
These notes start with an introduction to the differentiability of convex functions on Banach spaces, leading to the study of Asplund spaces and their intriguing relationship to monotone operators (and more general set-values maps) and Banach spaces with the Radon-Nikodym property. While much of this is classical, some of it is presented using streamlined proofs which were not available until recently. Considerable attention is paid to contemporary results on variational principles and perturbed optimization in Banach spaces, exhibiting their close connections with Asplund spaces. An introductory course in functional analysis is adequate background for reading these notes which can serve as the basis for a seminar of a one-term graduate course. There are numerous excercises, many of which form an integral part of the exposition.

Convex Analysis And Monotone Operator Theory In Hilbert Spaces written by Heinz H. Bauschke and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-02-28 with Mathematics categories.
This reference text, now in its second edition, offers a modern unifying presentation of three basic areas of nonlinear analysis: convex analysis, monotone operator theory, and the fixed point theory of nonexpansive operators. Taking a unique comprehensive approach, the theory is developed from the ground up, with the rich connections and interactions between the areas as the central focus, and it is illustrated by a large number of examples. The Hilbert space setting of the material offers a wide range of applications while avoiding the technical difficulties of general Banach spaces. The authors have also drawn upon recent advances and modern tools to simplify the proofs of key results making the book more accessible to a broader range of scholars and users. Combining a strong emphasis on applications with exceptionally lucid writing and an abundance of exercises, this text is of great value to a large audience including pure and applied mathematicians as well as researchers in engineering, data science, machine learning, physics, decision sciences, economics, and inverse problems. The second edition of Convex Analysis and Monotone Operator Theory in Hilbert Spaces greatly expands on the first edition, containing over 140 pages of new material, over 270 new results, and more than 100 new exercises. It features a new chapter on proximity operators including two sections on proximity operators of matrix functions, in addition to several new sections distributed throughout the original chapters. Many existing results have been improved, and the list of references has been updated. Heinz H. Bauschke is a Full Professor of Mathematics at the Kelowna campus of the University of British Columbia, Canada. Patrick L. Combettes, IEEE Fellow, was on the faculty of the City University of New York and of Université Pierre et Marie Curie – Paris 6 before joining North Carolina State University as a Distinguished Professor of Mathematics in 2016.

This book provides a largely self-contained account of the main results of convex analysis and optimization in Hilbert space. A concise exposition of related constructive fixed point theory is presented, that allows for a wide range of algorithms to construct solutions to problems in optimization, equilibrium theory, monotone inclusions, variational inequalities, best approximation theory, and convex feasibility. The book is accessible to a broad audience, and reaches out in particular to applied scientists and engineers, to whom these tools have become indispensable.

Introduction To The Analysis Of Normed Linear Spaces written by J. R. Giles and has been published by Cambridge University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2000-03-13 with Mathematics categories.
This is a basic course in functional analysis for senior undergraduate and beginning postgraduate students. The reader need only be familiarity with elementary real and complex analysis, linear algebra and have studied a course in the analysis of metric spaces; knowledge of integration theory or general topology is not required. The text concerns the structural properties of normed linear spaces in general, especially associated with dual spaces and continuous linear operators on normed linear spaces. The implications of the general theory are illustrated with a great variety of example spaces.

Basic Monotonicity Methods With Some Applications written by Marek Galewski and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-09-01 with Mathematics categories.
This textbook introduces some basic tools from the theory of monotone operators together with some of their applications. Examples that work for ordinary differential equations are provided. The illustrating material is kept relatively simple, while at the same time offering inspiring applications to the reader. The material will appeal to graduate students in mathematics who want to learn some basics in the theory of monotone operators. Furthermore, it offers a smooth transition to studying more advanced topics pertaining to more refined applications by shifting to pseudomonotone operators, and next, to multivalued monotone operators.

This book treats various concepts of generalized derivatives and subdifferentials in normed spaces, their geometric counterparts and their application to optimization problems. It starts with the subdifferential of convex analysis, passes to corresponding concepts for locally Lipschitz continuous functions and then presents subdifferentials for general lower semicontinuous functions. All basic tools are presented where they are needed: this concerns separation theorems, variational and extremal principles as well as relevant parts of multifunction theory. Each chapter ends with bibliographic notes and exercises.
