Familienunternehmen, so wollen es uns Politik und Wirtschaft glauben machen, heben sich von ihrem Pendant ohne Familieneinfluss in Bezug auf verantwortungsbewusstes Handeln positiv ab. So wird beispielsweise argumentiert, Eigentümerfamilien von Unternehmen würden ihre Mitarbeiter oftmals als Teil ihrer eigenen Familie ansehen und sich daneben auch der Gesellschaft in besonderer Art und Weise verbunden fühlen. Als Grund hierfür wird ein besonderes Wertebewusstsein der Familienunternehmen unterstellt, welches oftmals über Generationen weitervererbt wird. Doch ist dies wirklich so? Zeichnen sich Familienunternehmen durch ein anderes, positiveres Verantwortungsbewusstsein aus als Nicht-Familienunternehmen? Um das Verhalten von Familienunternehmen und Nicht-Familienunternehmen näher zu beleuchten, werden drei unterschiedliche empirische Studien vorgestellt und diskutiert. Dabei konzentriert sich diese Ausarbeitung auf Unterschiede der Corporate Governance sowie Corporate Social Responsibility von mittelständischen Unternehmen mit und ohne Familieneinfluss.
