Les avancées de la biologie contemporaine posent de façon nouvelle des problèmes philosophiques anciens, tels que ceux des rapports entre le vivant et l’inanimé, entre le corps et l’esprit, l’erreur et la vérité. Une approche tout à fait nouvelle de la philosophie, et de Spinoza en particulier, grâce à la biologie et aux sciences cognitives. Henri Atlan est à la fois médecin, biologiste et philosophe. Ancien chef de service à l’hôpital de l’Hôtel-Dieu à Paris, il est professeur émérite de biophysique, fondateur et ancien directeur du Centre de recherche en biologie humaine à l’hôpital universitaire Hadassah de Jérusalem. Il est également directeur d’études en philosophie de la biologie à l’EHESS. Il a notamment publié Entre le cristal et la fumée, Les Étincelles de hasard, ainsi que, aux éditions Odile Jacob, Le Vivant post-génomique, qui ont été de grands succès.

This book illuminates the importance of threat on the representation of everyday life, from an interdisciplinary perspective. Divided into three parts, the book sets out by addressing the conceptual aspects of threat and by opening views on phenomena and social processes associated with threat. It shows how threat constitutes an analytical category that simultaneously involves social, psychological, religious, historical and political factors, and calls for a sufficiently broad conceptual definition to integrate pluri-disciplinary contributions. La quarante-cinquième leçon du Cours, qui porte sur l'étude positive des fonctions intellectuelles et morales, ou cérébrales, est d'une très grande importance pour la psychologie. Il considère comme impossible d'étudier objectivement l'activité de la pensée par le moyen de la réflexion et condamne la philosophie de son temps. Pour connaître les lois de la pensée, Comte propose d'étudier structuralement le cerveau en continuant le travail de Franz Josef Gall (1758-1828). Ce volume est une reproduction en fac-similé de l'édition originale de 1838 du troisième tome du Cours de philosophie positive publiée à Paris chez Bachelier.
