Tensor decomposition is a relevant topic, both for theoretical and applied mathematics, due to its interdisciplinary nature, which ranges from multilinear algebra and algebraic geometry to numerical analysis, algebraic statistics, quantum physics, signal processing, artificial intelligence, etc. The starting point behind the study of a decomposition relies on the idea that knowledge of elementary components of a tensor is fundamental to implement procedures that are able to understand and efficiently handle the information that a tensor encodes. Recent advances were obtained with a systematic application of geometric methods: secant varieties, symmetries of special decompositions, and an analysis of the geometry of finite sets. Thanks to new applications of theoretic results, criteria for understanding when a given decomposition is minimal or unique have been introduced or significantly improved. New types of decompositions, whose elementary blocks can be chosen in a range of different possible models (e.g., Chow decompositions or mixed decompositions), are now systematically studied and produce deeper insights into this topic. The aim of this Special Issue is to collect papers that illustrate some directions in which recent researches move, as well as to provide a wide overview of several new approaches to the problem of tensor decomposition.

Hasse Schmidt Derivations On Grassmann Algebras written by Letterio Gatto and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-07-08 with Mathematics categories.
This book provides a comprehensive advanced multi-linear algebra course based on the concept of Hasse-Schmidt derivations on a Grassmann algebra (an analogue of the Taylor expansion for real-valued functions), and shows how this notion provides a natural framework for many ostensibly unrelated subjects: traces of an endomorphism and the Cayley-Hamilton theorem, generic linear ODEs and their Wronskians, the exponential of a matrix with indeterminate entries (Putzer's method revisited), universal decomposition of a polynomial in the product of two monic polynomials of fixed smaller degree, Schubert calculus for Grassmannian varieties, and vertex operators obtained with the help of Schubert calculus tools (Giambelli's formula). Significant emphasis is placed on the characterization of decomposable tensors of an exterior power of a free abelian group of possibly infinite rank, which then leads to the celebrated Hirota bilinear form of the Kadomtsev-Petviashvili (KP) hierarchy describing the Plücker embedding of an infinite-dimensional Grassmannian. By gathering ostensibly disparate issues together under a unified perspective, the book reveals how even the most advanced topics can be discovered at the elementary level.

Tensor Eigenvalues And Their Applications written by Liqun Qi and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-03-30 with Mathematics categories.
This book offers an introduction to applications prompted by tensor analysis, especially by the spectral tensor theory developed in recent years. It covers applications of tensor eigenvalues in multilinear systems, exponential data fitting, tensor complementarity problems, and tensor eigenvalue complementarity problems. It also addresses higher-order diffusion tensor imaging, third-order symmetric and traceless tensors in liquid crystals, piezoelectric tensors, strong ellipticity for elasticity tensors, and higher-order tensors in quantum physics. This book is a valuable reference resource for researchers and graduate students who are interested in applications of tensor eigenvalues.

Besides the very obvious change from German to English, the second edition of this book contains many additions as weil as a great many other changes. It might even be called a new book altogether were it not for the fact that the essential character of the book has remained the same; in other words, the entire presentation continues to be based on an axiomatic treatment of linear spaces. In this second edition, the thorough-going restriction to linear spaces of finite dimension has been removed. Another complete change is the restriction to linear spaces with real or complex coefficients, thereby removing a number of relatively involved discussions which did not really contribute substantially to the subject. On p.6 there is a list of those chapters in which the presentation can be transferred directly to spaces over an arbitrary coefficient field. Chapter I deals with the general properties of a linear space. Those concepts which are only valid for finitely many dimensions are discussed in a special paragraph. Chapter 11 now covers only linear transformations while the treat ment of matrices has been delegated to a new chapter, chapter 111. The discussion of dual spaces has been changed; dual spaces are now intro duced abstractly and the connection with the space of linear functions is not established untillater.

There are a number of very good books available on linear algebra. However, new results in linear algebra appear constantly, as do new, simpler, and better proofs of old results. Many of these results and proofs obtained in the past thirty years are accessible to undergraduate mathematics majors, but are usually ignored by textbooks. In addition, more than a few interesting old results are not covered in many books. In this book, the author provides the basics of linear algebra, with an emphasis on new results and on nonstandard and interesting proofs. The book features about 230 problems with complete solutions. It can serve as a supplementary text for an undergraduate or graduate algebra course.

This book is the second volume of an intensive “Russian-style” two-year undergraduate course in abstract algebra, and introduces readers to the basic algebraic structures – fields, rings, modules, algebras, groups, and categories – and explains the main principles of and methods for working with them. The course covers substantial areas of advanced combinatorics, geometry, linear and multilinear algebra, representation theory, category theory, commutative algebra, Galois theory, and algebraic geometry – topics that are often overlooked in standard undergraduate courses. This textbook is based on courses the author has conducted at the Independent University of Moscow and at the Faculty of Mathematics in the Higher School of Economics. The main content is complemented by a wealth of exercises for class discussion, some of which include comments and hints, as well as problems for independent study.

Differential Geometry And Lie Groups written by Jean Gallier and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-08-18 with Mathematics categories.
This textbook explores advanced topics in differential geometry, chosen for their particular relevance to modern geometry processing. Analytic and algebraic perspectives augment core topics, with the authors taking care to motivate each new concept. Whether working toward theoretical or applied questions, readers will appreciate this accessible exploration of the mathematical concepts behind many modern applications. Beginning with an in-depth study of tensors and differential forms, the authors go on to explore a selection of topics that showcase these tools. An analytic theme unites the early chapters, which cover distributions, integration on manifolds and Lie groups, spherical harmonics, and operators on Riemannian manifolds. An exploration of bundles follows, from definitions to connections and curvature in vector bundles, culminating in a glimpse of Pontrjagin and Chern classes. The final chapter on Clifford algebras and Clifford groups draws the book to an algebraic conclusion, which can be seen as a generalized viewpoint of the quaternions. Differential Geometry and Lie Groups: A Second Course captures the mathematical theory needed for advanced study in differential geometry with a view to furthering geometry processing capabilities. Suited to classroom use or independent study, the text will appeal to students and professionals alike. A first course in differential geometry is assumed; the authors’ companion volume Differential Geometry and Lie Groups: A Computational Perspective provides the ideal preparation.
