Eine bedeutende Stellung nehmen hierbei die Medien, vor allem aber die neuen Medien, ein, die einen enormen Wandel in Wirtschaft, Wissenschaft und Gesellschaft bewirkt haben und immer noch bewirken. So wurden, zum Beispiel durch die Einführung des Computers, Berufe verändert, zum Teil entfielen sie einfach, viele andere wurden dafür aber neu erschaffen. Doch nicht nur die Arbeitswelt wird durch die neuen Informationstechnologien verändert, auch alle andere Lebensbereiche werden beeinflusst. Der richtige Umgang mit neuen Medien ist somit eine wichtige Schlüsselqualifikation für die Zukunft, wodurch vor allem die Jugendlichen in den Vordergrund gerückt werden. Die Medien gehören heute bereits zum Alltag der Jugendlichen. Vor diesem Hintergrund kommt der Institution Schule eine zentrale Aufgabe zu, indem sie die Vermittlung der Schlüsselqualifikationen sicherstellt und die neuen Medien in das Bildungssystem integriert. Die Schule bleibt auch in der Zeit der Informations- und Wissensgesellschaft der zentrale Ort des Lernens. Medienverwendung, Medienerziehung und Medienbildung müssen sich somit an dem allgemeinen Erziehungs- und Bildungsauftrag der Schule orientieren (Tulodziecki 2005, S. 368), das heißt die Schülerinnen und Schüler sollen die Fähigkeit erwerben, ihr Leben selbst bestimmend zu gestalten, sich ihrer Mitbestimmung in der Gesellschaft und der Politik bewusst zu sein und sozialverträgliches Handeln ermöglichen. Dies alles schließt jedoch einen kritischen Umgang mit den Medien mit ein. Die Schülerinnen und Schüler sollen durch die Schule Fähigkeiten und Fertigkeiten vermittelt bekommen, die es ihnen erlauben mit Medien sachgerecht, selbst bestimmt, kreativ und sozial verantwortlich umzugehen. In diesem Rahmen kommen auf Schule und Unterricht folgende Anforderungen zu (Tulodziecki/ Herzig 2002, S. 8): • Nutzung von Medien für Lernen und Lehren, • Wahrnehmung von Erziehungs- und Bildungsaufgaben im Medienbereich, • Gestaltung medienpädagogischer Konzepte in der Schule. Auf Grund dieser Anforderungen stellt sich die Frage, wie die Schule diesen gerecht werden kann. Doch bevor man darauf näher eingehen kann, müssen noch einige Vorüberlegungen getätigt werden.
