Diffusionsprozesse haben seit jeher einen zentralen Stellenwert im Rahmen der Wirtschaftswissenschaft gehabt. Dabei hat die absatzwirtschaftliche Diffusionsfor schung einen Schwerpunkt ihrer Bemühungen nicht zuletzt auf die Modellierung von Diffusionsprozessen gelegt. Von wenigen Ausnahmen abgesehen hat jedoch stets die Analyse der Diffusionsprozesse von Singulärgütern eine Rolle gespielt. Zunehmend läßt sich jedoch beobachten, daß die Bedeutung von Singulärgütern zugunsten von Netzeffekt-bzw. Systemgütern zurücktritt. Zumindest läßt sich behaupten, daß diese Güter eine zunehmende Rolle im Wirtschaftsprozeß spielen. Kernüberlegung der Untersuchung des Verfassers ist es herauszuarbeiten, worin Besonderheiten dieser neuen GUterkategorien liegen, welche Auswirkungen diese auf die Diffusions prozesse haben und welche Konsequenzen das für die Modellierung von Systemen mit Kritischer Masse hat. Die Ausführungen belegen, daß die aus der klassischen Diffusionstheorie bekannten Charakteristika des relativen Vorteils, der Kompatibilität, der Komplexität, der Kommunizierbarkeit und der Erprobbarkeit bei Kritische Masse-Systemen tenden ziell so ausgeprägt sind, daß sie in der Anfangsphase die Diffusionsgeschwindigkeit von Kritische Masse-Systemen herabsetzen. Der Verfasser zieht aus dieser Erkennt nis die Schlußfolgerung, daß die Diffusionskurve bei Kritische Masse-Systemen einen linksschiefen Verlauf aufweisen müßte, was auch durch auftretende Rück kopplungseffekte verstärkt wird. Daneben werden weitere wesentliche Unterschiede zwischen den Aussagen der klas sischen Diffusionstheorie und der Diffusion von Kritische Masse-Systemen heraus gearbeitet. Als zentrale Unterscheidungsmerkmale stellt der Verfasser den bei Kriti sche Masse-Systemen veränderten Adoptionsbegriff, die Dichotomie der Marktstabi lität und die erweiterte Bedeutung der Kaufbereitschaft heraus.
