Ocean Tides written by G. I. Marchuk and has been published by Elsevier this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-05-20 with Science categories.

Ocean Tides: Mathematical Models and Numerical Experiments discusses the mathematical concepts involved in understanding the behavior of oceanic tides. The book utilizes mathematical models and equations to interpret physical peculiarities of tidal generation. The text first presents the essential information on the theory of tide, and then proceeds to tackling the studies on the equations of tidal dynamics. Next, the book covers the numerical methods for the solution of the equations of tidal dynamics. Chapter 4 deals with the tides in the World Ocean, while Chapter 5 talks about the bottom boundary layer in tidal flows. The last chapter tackles the vertical structure of internal tidal waves. The book will be of great interest to individuals whose profession involves the direct interaction with tides, such as mariners, marine biologists, and oceanographers.

Oceanic Internal Tides Observations Analysis And Modeling written by Eugene G. Morozov and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-02-08 with Science categories.

This book presents a detailed study of the structure and variability of internal tides and their geographical distribution in the ocean. Based on experimental analysis of oceanic measurements combined with numerical modeling, it offers a comprehensive overview of the internal wave processes around the globe. In particular, it is based on moored buoys observations in many regions in all oceans (Atlantic, Pacific, Indian, Arctic, and Southern) that have been carried out by researchers from different countries for more than 40 years as part of various oceanographic programs, including WOCE and CLIVAR. However, a significant portion of the data was collected by the author, who is a field oceanographer. The data was processed and interpreted on the basis of the latest knowledge of internal wave motion. The properties of internal waves were analyzed in relation to the bottom topography and mean state of the ocean in specific regions. Internal waves play a major role in the formation of seawater stratification and are responsible for the main processes of ocean dynamics, such as energy transfer and mixing. One of the most significant ideas presented in this book is the generation of internal tides over submarine ridges. Energy fluxes from submarine ridges related to tidal internal waves greatly exceed the fluxes from continental slopes. Submarine ridges form an obstacle to the propagation of tidal currents, which can cause the creation of large amplitude internal tides. Energy fluxes from submarine ridges account for approximately one fourth of the total energy dissipation of the barotropic tides. Model simulations and moored measurements have been combined to generate a map of global distribution of internal tide amplitudes. This book is of interest to oceanographers, marine biologists, civil engineers, and scientists working in climate research, fluid mechanics, acoustics, and underwater navigation.

Dynamics Of Coastal Systems Second Edition written by Job Dronkers and has been published by World Scientific this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-08-19 with Technology & Engineering categories.

The book provides a comprehensive and up-to-date overview of the physical processes which, according to the present state of knowledge, determine the evolution of coastal systems and their response to human interventions. This response depends to a large degree on the self-organising properties of coastal dynamics, which form a leading theme throughout the book. The basic theoretical ideas are explained in text and figures and also in formulas for the more mathematically inclined reader. Theories are illustrated with examples from estuaries, coastal lagoons, beaches and tidal flat systems from all over the world. The rules and simple models can be used directly without relying on complex computations; much attention is given to the strengths and weaknesses of the underlying theories and their limits of applicability. The book is fully self-contained; some knowledge of basic physics and mathematics is recommended. The book is an upgrade of the first edition. Most parts are rewritten and chapters are added to incorporate research results, new insight and experience of the past ten years. This book is intended for everyone interested in coastal systems for professional or educational reasons.

Changing Sea Levels written by David Pugh and has been published by Cambridge University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2004-04 with Nature categories.

Flooding of coastal communities is one of the major causes of environmental disasters world-wide. This textbook explains at a basic level, how sea levels are affected by astronomical tides, by weather effects that generate extreme flooding events, and over the longer term by ocean circulation and climate trends. It also indicates how sea level changes are related to changing risks, coastal dynamics, geology and biology; and outlines some of the economic and legal implications. Based on courses taught by the author in the UK and the USA, this book is aimed at undergraduate students at all levels, with the text developed in such a way that non-basic mathematics is confined to Appendices and a web site (http://publishing.cambridge.org/resources/0521532183/). Changing Sea Levels will also interest and inform professionals in many fields including hydrography, coastal engineering, geology, biology and also coastal planning and economics.
