Social Structure And Mobility In Economic Development written by Seymour Lipset and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-04-27 with Business & Economics categories.
The foundation of this volume is the notion that the several processes of change constituting economic and social development are systematically interrelated. The essence of development is the appearance of rapid rates of increases in many different indices--output per capita, political participation, literacy and the like. These quantitative changes are, however, commonly accompanied by vast changes in the social structure--markets emerge, political bureaucracies arise, and new educational systems appear. Written by the leading authorities on the subject, this group of papers tackles the causes and consequences of social mobility. Each author brings his particular skills to bear on various aspects of the problem in studies of persons moving from rural to urban settings, from one kind of industry to another and from one prestige level to another. Several of the papers review the theoretical and methodological issues involved in comparative research on social mobility while others compare and contrast traditional and modern stratification systems. Various papers explore the economic, religious and psychological basis of social mobility, concluding with enquiry into the consequences of rapid mobility, especially in terms of the political stability of developing nations. Because social mobility is a central consideration in any study of economic and social change, every student of change will use this pioneering reference source as a text for all future research. Contributors include Otis Dudley Duncan, Harold L. Wilensky, Michael G. Smith, Bert F. Hoselitz, Wilbert E. Moore, Natalie Rogoff Rams°y, Gideon Sjoberg, Reinhard Bendix, Harry Crockett, David Matza, Lester Seligman, and Gino Germani. Neil J. Smelser is emeritus professor, Department of Sociology, University of California, Berkeley. Seymour Martin Lipset was professor of sociology and director of the Institute of International Studies at the University of California, Berkeley.

Rethinking Education For Sustainable Development In A Local Community Context written by Fumiko Noguchi and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-08-21 with Education categories.
This book bridges the gap between Education for Sustainable Development and community development and examines the contributions of critical environmental education as a theoretical framework to the policy, research, and practice of Education for Sustainable Development. The book investigates what Education for Sustainable Development really means when it happens from the perspectives of a marginalized individual at the very bottom of society in a local community, where there is no such ‘educational’ institution, no policy or no curriculum to support the effort, but there is the necessity of learning and empowerment for changing the situation. In particular, drawing on the experience of the indigenous Ainu fisherman, it critically examines the theoretical foundation of Education for Sustainable Development, critical environmental education, investigating methodologically and epistemologically the relevance and efficacy of critical environmental education to socially critical approaches to Education for Sustainable Development in a community development context. And this investigation leads to develop a praxis framework for socially critical Education for Sustainable Development in a community development context so that both fields would be mutually supportive to strengthen the practices.

Education Social Reform And Philosophical Development written by Richard Pring and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-07-20 with Education categories.
Reflecting on the meaning and purpose of an education at the mercy of political changes and innovation, this book considers the social, historical, religious and cultural contexts that define education systems. With a particular focus on how historical contexts shape the nature of education and its relevance to wider society, it explores the history of education in relation to social reform, economic relevance and raising standards. The first part of the book describes the developing system of education within England and Wales from the 19th century, with reference to the growing consciousness of the need for ‘education for all’. The second part identifies key philosophical influences on the evolving understandings of education, and thereby of the developing policies and arrangements made in the light of those understandings which they generated. Finally, the third part of the book revisits the ‘aims of education’ in the light of the historical development and the philosophical critiques. This book will be of great interest to academics, researchers, postgraduate students and policy makers interested in the history of education and the moments that have defined it.

This book explores how education influences economic and social development. With a particular focus on the role of higher education and universities, policies that promote education are analysed to highlight how economic development can be encouraged (and hindered) through policymaking. Comparative trends within Europe and Romania are examined to provide insight into the different ways in which education has evolved across the continent. The relationship between levels of education and employability, personal development, and professional development is also discussed. This book aims to examine how education policies can maximise economic growth and social development. It will be relevant to students and researchers interested in economic development and education economics.
